Reading, speaking and writing a letter to an architect(P7)

At the end of Marty’s story, Marty give several suggestions to healthy kid。

That is, to accept the disabled and to give them encouragement to live a rich and full life as healthy kids. As for us, what can we do to be helpful? (Discussion).
A girl named Alice is warm-hearted。

She cares for the disabled very much。

When she learned a new cinema is going to be built, she would like to do something beneficial to the disabled. So, she wrote a letter.

What’s the letter about? (a citizen writes a letter to ask the architect of the new Bankstowncinema to consider the matter of easy use of the cinema by disabled customers。

)How many parts can the body of the letter be divided into? (Three)
ⅢWhile- reading
The body of the letter consists of 7 paragraphs。

And suggestions are put forward from Para 2 to 6。

What are the suggestions? (Meanwhile, deal with the new words and expressions)。

Therefore, the body can be divided into 3 parts。

What’s the first Para for?(to tell the reader the purpose of the letter)How about the last Para (reasons why these pieces of advice should be considered)
This letter is written in quite a polite way。

What expressions make it polite?
●I am writing to ask you to consider the matter of easy use of the cinema by disabled
customers.
●I would like you to consider the following things.
●Thank you for reading my letter。

●I hope you will consider my suggestions.

ⅣPost—reading
A letter of suggestion
A letter of suggestion normally has five parts.
1。

The heading
This includes the address, line by line, with the last line being the date。

Skip
a line after the heading。

2. The greeting
The greeting always ends with a comma. The greeting should be formal, beginning with the word “dear”.
3. The body
Generally speaking, the body includes three parts。

The first part (usually the first paragraph) tells the receiver that you are writing this letter to make suggestions on something, and the main part tells clearly what your suggestions are. The last part (usually the last paragraph) asks the receiver to consider your suggestions。

Don’t forget to encourage the receiver to take your suggestions. Skipping a line between paragraphs, especially in typed or printed copy, also helps the reader。

4. The complimentary close
This short expression is always a few words on a single line. The complimentary close begins with a capital letter and ends with a comma.
5. The signature line
Type or print your name。

The handwritten signature goes above this line and below the close。

The signature line and the handwritten signature are indented to the same column as the close。

The signature should be written in blue or black ink. Skip from one to three spaces (two on a typewriter), and type in the signature line the printed name of the person signing the letter。

Sign the name in the space between the close and the signature line, starting at the left edge of the signature line.
ⅤHomework
Write a letter of suggestion to anyone you like, following the sample on page 8.

2. Read and answer the questions
●Who is Miss Sullivan?
●How did Helen learn new words?
●Why did helen long for a new day to come?
●What qualities can be found in MissSullivan?
The story of my life
Helen Keller
I felt approaching footsteps. I stretched out my hand as I supposed to my mother. Someone took it, and I was caught up and held close in the arms of her who had come to reveal all things to me, and, more than all things else, to love me。

The morning after my teacher came she led me into her room and gave me a doll. The little children at the Perkins Institution had sent it and Laura Bridgman had dressed it; but I did not know this until afterward。

When I had played with it a little while, Miss Sullivan slowly spelled into my hand the word “d-o-l—l”. I was at once interested in this finger play and tried to imitate it。

When I finally succeeded in making the letters correctly I was flushed with childish pleasure and pride。

Running downstairs to my mother, I held up my hand and made the letters for doll. I did not know that I was spelling a word or even that word existed; I was simply making my fingers go in monkey-like imitation。

In the days that followed I learned to spell in this uncomprehending way a great many words, among them pin, hat, cup and a few verbs like sit, stand, and wlk. But my teacher had been with me several weeks before I understood that everything has a name.
…….
I left the wellhouse eager to learn。

Everyone had a name, and each name gave birth to a new thought. As we returned to the house every object which I touched seemed to
quiver with life。

That was because I saw everything with the strange, new sight that had come to me. On entering the door remembered the doll I had broken。

I felt my way to the hearth and picked up the pieces。

I tried vainly to put them together. Then my eyes filled with tears; for I realized what I had done, and for the first time I felt repentance and sorrow。

I learned a great many new words that day. I do not remember what they all were; but I do know that mother, father, sister, teacher were among them—words that were to make the world blossom for me,“Like Aaron's rod, wit h flowers". It would have been difficult to find a happier child than I was as I lay in my crib at the close of that eventful day and lived over the joys it had brought me, and for the first time longed for a new day to come。
