Memoria Technica (I)
口译记忆(一)
Unit Objective (单元目标)
After reading this unit you should understand
☆ MS Teaching Model which is used for this course.
☆ the nature of memorization.
☆ two major types of Memoria Technica.
Warm-up (准备)
1. Two students are requested to sit at the Interpreting Desk or Booth, acting as interpretors of the class. Their performance is evaluated and graded by instructor.
2.One or Two students are asked to present a piece of news or a weather forecast of the week.
Theory of Interpretation I (口译理论一)
口译记忆训练的必要性:基尔(Gale)理论。

口译记忆的特点:短期记忆;信息输入;信息容量;记忆形态;信息提取。

口译记忆的主要方法:关键词记忆;语义的记忆。

Memoria Technica (记忆法)
Listen to the following sentences, and try to catch the key words and details, then repeat as accurately as possible:
1.We’d like to invite you especially t o our home this weekend.
2.I am pretty sure he will let you know about his recent work.
3.He is really getting nervous about the interview scheduled at noon today.
4.Television, which made its first appearance in 1939, did not become common
until the early 1950s.
5.The ACCBC corporation has advised us to get in tough with you.
6.We understand from your advertisement in Medicine that you are exporting
medicine.
7.Please let us know the best price for tin as advertised in y esterday’s New York
Times.
8.As you know, it is our policy to trade with the people of all countries on the
basis of equality and mutual benefit. We believe we shall be able to promote our business by joint venture.
Listen to the following passages, and try to catch the key words and details, then retell them in your own words. Pay attention to the development of the event or idea in the passage:
Mrs. Neat
Mrs. Neat was tidy and orderly as always. One day she got on a bus, went up on the top deck and sat down at a window. When the bus conductor asked her for her fare, she opened her bag, took out her purse, closed her bag, opened her purse, took out a shilling, closed her purse, opened her bag, put in her purse and closed her bag. She paid her fare and the conductor gave her a ticket.
After a Snowstorm
One night there was a snowstorm. In the morning Mr. Smith’s garden was full of deep snow. Mr. Smith wanted to take his car out, so he paid a man to clean the path from his garage to his gate.
He said to this man: “Don’t throw any snow on this side, because the snow will damage the tree; and don’t throw any snow into street, or the police will be angry.” After that, Mr. Smith handed the man a ten pound note and went out.
When he came back, the path was clean and the snow was not on the tree, nor on fence, nor in the street. Mr. Smith was quite pleased, until he opened the garage to get his car out! The garage was full to the top with the snow from the path and his car was somewhere under it.
Cultural Salon or Seminar (文化沙龙或研讨会)
In the last 20 minutes will be a cultural salon or seminar. Two or three students who have been asked to prepare a speech in advance on a given topic. Students will do the oral interpretation.

Homework Assignments (课后作业)
Work on Exercise1- 3 in Unit 1 of the Textbook: Text 1.1
Task: Listen to the article and then start interpreting at the end of each segment.
