Thanksgiving Day
Thanksgiving Day is one of the most important holidays in North America. Do you know how it came into being?
In December, 1620, a group of Englishmen reached Plymouth, America. Many of them died because of cold weather and lack of food. However, the warm-hearted native Indians helped them survive. In 1621, to give thanks to God and the Indians, December 13th was set aside for celebration.
Later in 1789, George Washington, the first president of the USA, declared November 26th to be Thanksgiving. Yet, in 1941, the US Congress made the fourth Thursday in November as annual Thanksgiving Day
Since then, Thanksgiving Day has been a time for people to give thanks for what they have. It is also a day for families and friends to get together for a special meal. The meal often includes a turkey, potatoes, pumpkin pies and vegetables.
On Thanksgiving Day, most government offices, businesses and schools are closed. Many people have a holiday, so it’s also a popular time for trips.

The Spring Festival Gala
The Spring Festival Gala is a Chinese New Year special produced by CCTV. It has become an important part of the Chinese Lunar New Year celebration since 1983, when it was first televised live(电视直播) at home and abroad.
