I. Introduction
The English Competition aims to enhance the English proficiency of students, promote cultural exchange, and foster a love for the English language among participants. This competition will be open to all students from grades 6 to 12 in our school district. The event will be held over a period of three months, culminating in a grand finale where winners will be announced and awarded.
II. Objectives
1. To provide a platform for students to showcase their English language skills.
2. To encourage students to develop a passion for learning and speaking English.
3. To enhance cross-cultural understanding and communication skills.
4. To recognize and reward outstanding English language abilities.
III. Competition Structure
The competition will be divided into four stages:
1. Initial Round (Online Preliminary Tests)
2. Quarterfinals
3. Semifinals
4. Grand Finale
A. Initial Round (Online Preliminary Tests)
Duration: Two weeks
Eligibility: All students from grades 6 to 12
Format: Online multiple-choice tests covering grammar, vocabulary, reading comprehension, and listening skills.
Evaluation: Marks will be calculated based on the accuracy and speed of answers.
Criteria for Advancement: Top 50 students from each grade level will proceed to the quarterfinals.
B. Quarterfinals
Duration: One week
Eligibility: Top 50 students from each grade level (total of 200 students)
Format: Written essays on a given topic, followed by a spoken presentation.
Evaluation: Essays will be evaluated by a panel of teachers based on content, coherence, grammar, and vocabulary. Spoken presentations will be assessed on fluency, clarity, and engagement.
Criteria for Advancement: Top 20 students from each grade level (total of 80 students) will proceed to the semifinals.
C. Semifinals
Duration: Two weeks
Eligibility: Top 80 students from the quarterfinals
Format: Group activities and individual tasks focusing on teamwork, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Evaluation: Group activities will be evaluated based on collaboration, creativity, and effective communication. Individual tasks will be assessed on problem-solving skills and English proficiency.
Criteria for Advancement: Top 16 students from each grade level (total of 64 students) will proceed to the grand finale.
D. Grand Finale
Duration: One day
Eligibility: Top 64 students from the semifinals
Format: Individual and group tasks, including impromptu speeches, debates, and cultural presentations.
Evaluation: Individual and group tasks will be evaluated on English proficiency, creativity, and teamwork.
Winner Selection: The final winner will be selected based on the cumulative scores from all stages.
IV. Prizes and Recognition
First Place: Certificate, trophy, and a cash prize of $500
Second Place: Certificate, trophy, and a cash prize of $300
Third Place: Certificate, trophy, and a cash prize of $200
Runners-up: Certificates
Special Awards: Best Spoken Presentation, Best Essay, and Best Teamwork

January 1 – February 14: Initial Round (Online Preliminary Tests)
February 15 – February 21: Quarterfinals
February 22 – March 7: Semifinals
March 8 – March 14: Grand Finale
VI. Promotion and Participation
Promotion: The competition will be promoted through school newsletters, posters, and social media platforms.
