Step 1 Revision
Students watch the pictures and say the types of films
Horror film
Cartoon
Action film
Romantic film
Science fiction film western
Documentary
Comedy
What do you think of these films?
Horror film (terrible , make people feel scared…)
Cartoon (very interesting, can make you feel relaxed…)
Action film (with fights, have a bad effect on teenagers)
Romantic film (with happy endings, not suitable for us…)
(Ss; Watch the pictures and guess the types)
Science fiction film (can make you more imaginative, cleverer……)
Western (can learn the spirit of the cowboys……) Documentary (with facts, can help you learn more about history……)
Comedy (with lots of funny things, make you feel happy……)
Step 2 Speak up
First ask students what their favourite types of films are ?
Have a quick survey about it. Then ask them a question:
What are Sandy’s and Kitty’s favourite types of films?
Read the conversation and answer the questions
Select two students to act it out
Ask students to use the conversation as a model to make a different conversation Step 3.Responding to opinions
When you talk about your favourite type of films, you all have your own opinions. Sometimes you agree with people but sometimes you disagree. Here are some useful phrases to express agreement and disagreement.
Expressing agreement: I agree.
That’s a good idea.
Yes, I think so.
Yes, you’re right.
Expressing disagreement: I disagree.
No, I don’t think so.
That may not be a good idea.
I’m not sure if you’re right.
Step 4 Practice
Explain the context of Part B on Study skills.
Sandy and Millie are talking about a film they watched. They agree about some things but disagree about the others. Finish the exercises in pairs. Then ask them to role-play the conversation. Encourage them to read it like an actor or an Actress.
Step 5 Discussion
Ask students to work in pairs to talk about a film, a TV program, a book,
A compute game or a teacher they both are familiar with. Tell them to use the Expressions of agreement and disagreement freely.
Step 6 Homework
Use the phrases we learnt just now to write a conversation about your favourite films.
