A satellite is about to demonstrate a new way of capturing space junk with magnets for the first time. With the frequency of space launches dramatically increasing in recent years, the potential for a disastrous collision above Earth is continually growing. Now, Japanese orbital clean-up company Astroscale is testing a potential solution.
The firm's End-of-Life Services by Astroscale demonstration mission is scheduled to lift off on 20 March aboard a Russian Soyuz rocket. It consists of two spacecraft: a smal “client” satellite and a larger “servicer” satellite, or “chaser”. The smaller satellite is equipped with a magnetic (磁力的) plate which allows the chaser todock withit.
The two stacked spacecraft will perform three tests once in orbit, each of which will involve the servicer satellite releasing and then recapturing the client satellite. The first test will be the simplest, with the client satellite drifting a short distance away and then being recaptured. In the second test, the servicer satellite will set the client satellite tumbling before catching up with it and matching its motion to grab it.
Finally, if those two tests go well, the chaser will live up to its name by letting the client satellite float a few hundred metres away before finding it and attaching to it. All of these tests will be performed autonomously, with little to no human input once they are set in motion.
“These kinds of demonstrations have never been done before in space - they are very different to, say, an astronaut controlling a robotic arm on the International Space Station,” says Jason Forshaw at AstroscaleUK.“This is more of an autonomous mission.” At the end of the tests, both spacecraft will burn up in Earth's atmosphere.
If companies wanted to use this capability, they would have to attach a magnetic plate to their satellites so they could be captured later. Because of the growing space garbage problem, many countries now require firms to have a way to bring back their satellites once they run out of fuel or fail, so this could be a fairly simple likely plan, Forshaw says. Right now, each chaser can only nab one satellite, but Astroscale is working on a version that could drag three or four out of orbit at once.
4. Which of the following can replace the underlined word "dock with" in Paragraph 2?
A. Deal with.
B. Keep up with.
C. Join together.
D. Crash.
5. Why many countries now require firms to have a way to bring back their satellites?
A. Because of the growing space waste problem.
B. Because the frequency of space launches are dramatically increasing.
C. Because they can earn large profits from it.
D. Because Astroscale has found a new method of capturing the space garbage.
6. What will Astroscale do to solve the space junk problem?
A. An astronaut controls a robotic arm on the International Space to capture the “client” satellite.
B. Through a magnetic plate remotely controlled by humans on the ground to catch the “client” satellite.
C. Finding the "client "satellite and attaching to it with a magnetic plate automatically.
D. Tumbling to match the motion of “client satellite the drag three or four satellites out of its orbit into atmosphere.
7. What can we infer from the passage?
A. People will bum the space junk up in Earth's atmosphere in the future.
B. Japan andRussiawill conduct space debris cleanup experiment together.
C. These kinds of demonstrations have never been done before.
D. The demonstration mission will be divided into three phases.

Scientists at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (麻省理工学院) have turned spider webs into music——creating an strange soundtrack that could help them better understand how the spiders output their complex creations and even how they communicate.
The MIT team worked with Berlin-based artist Tomas Saraceno to take 2D (two-dimensional) laser (激光) scans of a spider web, which were linked together and made into a mathematical model that could recreate the web in 3Din VR (virtual reality). They also worked with MIT’s music department to create the virtual instrument.
“Even though the web looks really random (随机),there actually are a lot of inside structures and you can visualize (可视化) them and you can look at them, but it’s really hard to grasp for the human imagination or human brain to understand all these structural details,” said MIT engineering professor Markus Buehler, who presented the work on Monday at a virtual meeting of the American Chemical Society.
Listening to the music while moving through the VR spider web lets you see and hear these structural
changes and gives a better idea of how spiders see the world, he told CNN. “Spiders use vibrations (振动) as a way to locate themselves, to communicate with other spiders and so the idea of thinking really like a spider would experience the world was something that was very important to us as spider material scientists,” Buehler said.
Spiders are able to build their webs without shelves or supports, so having a better idea of how they work could lead to the development of advanced new 3D printing techniques. “The reason why I did that is I wanted to be able to get information really from the spider world, which is very weird and mysterious,” Buehler explained. In addition to the scientific value, Buehler said the webs are musically interesting and that you can hear the sounds the spider creates during construction. “It’s unusual and eerie and scary, but finally beautiful.” he described.
8. What have MIT scientists done according to the passage?
A. They have translated spider webs into sounds.
B. They have made a mathematical model to produce webs.
C. They have created a soundtrack to catch spiders.
D. They have known how spiders communicate.
9. What can we know about spider webs from paragraph 3?
A. Their structures are beautiful and clear.
B. Professor Markus Buehler knows them well.
C. The American Chemical Society presents the result.
D. They are complex for people to figure it out.
10. In which field will the study be helpful?
A. virtual reality
B. printing
C. painting
D. film-making
11. What is the main idea of the passage?
A. It tells us that the music created by spiders is scary.
B. It shows how the researchers carry out the experiment.
C. It presents a new and creative way to study spiders.
D. It explains why scientists did the experiment.

Jerry Lawson had a love of science and invention from a very young age. And, with the support of his family and teachers, he took that love and helped change the world for billions of people, when he invented the modem video game cartridge.
Both of Jerry's parents supported his love of science and invention. His father, a longshoreman, was a science fan and encouraged Jerry to always experiment with things. Jerry's first-grade teacher helped encourage him on his path to be someone influential similar to George Washington Carver, a great AfricanAmerican inventor. His first love in school was chemistry but he ended up liking electronics(电子学)even more.
He earned an amateur ham radio license at age 13 and built his own radio station in his room, with an antenna hanging out of his window! Jerry earned money from fixing television sets, visiting people's homes for inhouse repair, and also working at local electronics stores. Jerry also made walkie-talkies and sold them to other kids. He spent many Saturdays at an electronics store that had all of the parts he needed for his inventions. He would use his small allowance and money he earned to buy parts to help fuel his inventions.
When he was a young adult, Jerry joined Fairchild Semiconductor as an engineer. During this time, he created his own video arcade game(街机游戏),Demolition Derby, in his garage.
A few years later, Jerry was asked to work on a secret project. Not even his boss was allowed to know what he was doing! What it turned out to be was that he was designing the Fairchild Channel F video gameconsole(游戏控制器)and leading the team that invented the video game cartridge. This was the first of its kind and enabled kids around the world to affordably play video games at home.
Just like with automobiles, many advances have occurred since the inventionof video games. Video games are now one of the biggest forms of entertainment in the world. But all of this would not have been possible without the vision, passion, and skill of Jerry Lawson and his learn.
12. How did Jerry earn money when he was a teenager?
A. By running his radio station.
B. By selling television sets.
C. By repairing things for others.
D. By making electronic parts.
13. Before Jerry's secret project, playing video games at home was_____.
A. expensive
B. harmful
C. common
D. tiring
14. What does the author mainly tell us in the last paragraph?
A. Jerry Lawson and his team can be more skillful.
B. Jerry Lawson is important to the game industry.
C.Many advances have taken place in the automobile industry.
D. Video games are now the most popular form of entertainment.
15. What can be the best title for the text?
A. Video Gaming-An Important Industry
B. Game Console-Key to Home Video Games
C. Jerry Lawson-Father of Modern Gaming
D. Support and Encouragement-Necessary for Success

选项中有两项为多余选项Food waste is a huge problem, especially in grocery stores. Americans waste about 40% of their food every year._____16_____ There are several factors that contributed to this colossal amount of waste.
Misleading labels
There is a big difference between a sell-by date and a use-by date. When a sell-by date passes, it doesn’t mean that the food is unsafe to eat. However, many people still think that they have to toss it. Grocery stores sometimes throw away food simply because it’s getting close to the sell-by date.___17___The Daily Table is a non-profit grocery store in Massachusetts that collects food from other grocers that is close to its sell-by date and sells it at a deeply-discounted price. This both provides food to people at low costs and keeps it from being thrown away.
___18___ Denmark has a volunteer-run food waste supermarket and is planning on opening two more. The Real Junk Food Project in the UK just opened its first food waste supermarket, where items have no set prices. Shoppers are allowed to pay what they can for the food.
Imperfect produce
___19___Yet in grocery stores most produce looks identical. Some food in grocery stores gets thrown out because it’s imperfect, or it doesn’t “look good.” The food is still fine to eat, but often ends up in the trash. The non-profit End Food Waste has a list of retailers all over America that sell imperfect produce. They also have a petition that you can sign which asks major grocery stores to consider selling imperfect food.
There are also subscription services where you can get “ugly” produce delivered to your door. Imperfect Produce and Hungry Harvest are both organizations working to recover food that would otherwise be thrown away.____20____
Consumer action
Not all the blame for food waste belongs to grocery stores. As consumers we can help to influence the type of food that stores sell. By buying food in less excess, food that is close to the sell-by date, and imperfect produce, we can help reduce food waste.
A. This idea has been gaining ground in Europe, as well.
B. Produce rarely grows in a way every plant looks the exact same.
C. There are several companies working to recover out-of-date food.
D. In 2008, 43 billion pounds of perfectly good food were thrown out of grocery stores.
E. This is a great way to reduce the waste of short-lived foods, which food banks often can’t accept.
F. A new law passed by the Senate makes it illegal for supermarkets to throw away or destroy unsold food.
G. Just one quarter of all wasted food could feed the 795 million people around the world who suffer from hunger.第二部分语言运用(共两节,满分45分)
