Elizabeth and I are 18 now, and about to graduate. I think about our elementary-school friendship, but some memories have blurred( 模糊 ). What happened that day in the fifth grade when Beth suddenly stopped speaking to me? Does she know I’ve been thinking about h er for seven years? I have to speak with Beth. I see her sometimes, but it’s not the same. Someone says that she’s Liz now. What happened to Beth? I can't call her. Should I write? What if she doesn’t answer me? How will I know what she’s thinking?
Yes, I'll write her a letter. These things are easier to express in writing. “Elizabeth”, I begin. The words flow freely, as old memories are reborn. I ask her all the questions that have been left unanswered in my mind, and hope she will answer. I seal my thoughts in the perfect white envelope, and imagine Beth looking into her mailbox. Will she know why I'm writing? Maybe she once thought of writing the same.
As the mailman takes my envelope from me forever, I wonder if I've made the right decision. Do I have the right to force myself into Beth's life again? Am I simply part of the past? I have taken the first step. Beth has control of the situation now.
One day has passed. Are my words lying on the bottom of the post office? Two days are gone. I’m lost in thought and don’t even hear the phone ring.
“Hello? It’s Elizabeth.”

27.W hat might happen at the end of the story?

Can you imagine a world without music? Studies show that public schools across the country are cutting back on music classes to save money. Worse, some schools have never had music classes to begin with. But without them, students could suffer in many ways, including their studies and emotion. In fact, music classes are necessary for all students in schools.
Recent studies by Brown University have shown that students who received music education classes were better in math and reading skills than those without music classes. Another study by the College Board found that students taking music and art classes got higher points. Students’ success in studies seems to depend on their taking part in music education.
Music programs in public schools also help to add to a student’s sense of pride and self•confidence. Music pr ograms encourage students to work together to produce an excel lent performance.
Music crosses language, class, cultural and political boundaries (界限). Music allows students from different countries to connect. For example, at a school talent show, a new Japanese student played a piano duet (二重奏) with an American classmate. Although they didn’t speak the same language, they were able to read the music in order to play the duet. Two students from different cultures worked as a team with self•confidence and common purpose through music.
The gift of music is priceless. We need to be sure to have necessary music classes for all students. The world is losing its music, and putting music into schools is the first step to get it back.

For many kids, the Internet is at their fingertips. From computers to smartphones, a web of information is open to them. According to a new report from the Pew Research Center, about three out of four kids aged 12 to 13 connect the Internet using a mobile device (移动设备) from time to time. Many younger kids are online too.
Julian Zeitlinger, 9, from New Jersey, uses his computer to watch videos and play games. To keep him safe online, his parents monitor(监测) his web use and discuss Internet safety with him. “I ask my parents if something is wrong,” Julian says.
Mobile devices offer more ways than ever to share personal information. The information can be dangerous in the wrong hands. A study found that 62% of children aged 8 to 17 have had an unpleasant online experience.
Have you ever had to enter a parent’s email address when signing up for
a website? That safety net is there because of the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). The law says sites for kids under 13 cannot collect personal information, such as a phone number or full name, without a parent’s permission (允许). However, COPPA doesn’t cover everything that can go wrong online. That’s why kids and parents need to know what to look out for and to stop and think before sharing information online.
“There is a misunderstanding that if a site is following COPPA, it is totally safe,” says privacy expert Shai Samet. He runs kidSAFE, which checks whether a site meets kidSAFE standards and is safe. “It’s important that kids know how useful the Internet is but that it also can be dangerous if you are not careful,” he adds.

Dear Li Ming,
I know you are now having trouble communicating with others, and you may often feel lonely. That’s because you are new here and people don’t know about you. But I think you can make it if only you can take the advice below.
First, why not take an active part in the discussions and show your own opinions about the matters, and meanwhile, learn to listen to others’ views. Second, what about trying to learn about your classmates’ likes and dislikes? Last but not least, talk with them about what you have in common. In this way, you can get to know more people and show your friendliness.
With time going on, they will know you better and make friends with you.
Yours,
Li Hua。
