摘要：PURPOSE:To read a bar code with high speed even when the distance to a bar code is different, by reading scanning beams from the plural projection parts different in focal point depth while switching at prescribed timing. CONSTITUTION:When the bar code is read, plural projection parts 8, for which a lens 7 and a light source 6 are respectively provided, of the different focal point depth in an optical unit 4 are successively switched to be electrified and the scanning beam is projected. By the scanning beam from any one projection part 8 out of the plural projection parts 8, namely, from the projection part 8 equipped with the lens 7 of a focal distance corresponding to the position of the bar code, the reading is started. The optical unit 4 can be practically equipped with the long focal point depth and the bar code in the different distance can be read. Thus, even when the distance to the bar code is different, the bar code can be read and further, the reader with high reading speed can be obtained.
