1It has been argued by some that gifted children should be grouped in special classes. The 1 is based on the belief that in regular classes these children are held back in their intellectual (智力的) growth by 2 situation that has designed for the 3 children. There can be little doubt that 4 classes can help the gifted children to graduate earlier and take their place in life sooner. However, to take these 5 out of the regular classes may create serious problems.I observed a number of 6 children who were taken out of a special class and placed in a 7 class. In the special class, they showed little ability to use their own judgment, relying 8 on their teachers’ directions. In the regular class, having no worry about keeping up, they began to reflect 9 on many problems, some of which were not on the school program. Many are concerned that gifted children become 10 and lose interest in learning. However this 11 is more often from parents and teachers than from students, and some of these 12 simply conclude that special classes should be set up for those who are 13 . Some top students do feel bored in class, but why they 14 so goes far beyond the work they have in school. Studies have shown that to be bored is to be anx ious.

1. There are many students living at school,the①(child) houses are all far from school.(所给词的适当形式填空)考点[知识点]考点名词的数,名词所有格[答案]考点children’s[解析]考点考查名词所有格。

例如:(福建高考卷)Not too long ago, an incident that happened at Walt Disney touched me greatly. A guest told the front-desk clerk she had had a (n) wonderful vacation, but was heartbroken about losing several rolls of Kodak color film she had not yet developedNow, please understand that we have no written service rules covering lost photos in the park.Fortunately, the clerk at the front desk understanding Disney's idea of caring for our guests. “develop”的熟义本应该是“发展”的意思,但在这篇完形中我们得先根据上下文弄清楚“film”是胶卷的意思,客人丢了几卷还未冲洗的柯达胶卷而心碎,从而推敲出“develop”在文中应该是“冲印”的这个偏义。

But then came Avatar, the first must-see movie in 3D.But since Avatar, 3D cinema has struggled. In 2020, several 3D movies bombed at the box office. And by late 2020, some people said the technology was dead. Of course, this isn’t the first time Hollywood has struggled technology. Although sound was added to movies in the late 1920s, it took audience time to get used to the new technology. But in the end, sound and color became the standard. Watching a 3D movie confuses our brain and this is why some people get headaches. But James Cameron disagrees. In fact, he recently predicted that in five years all movies will be in 3D. And there are signs that 3D is fighting back. More 3D movies were put on the market in 2020 than ever before. The Lion King3D recently made over $150 million at the box offi ce, and Cameron’s Titanic 3D made even more.Who knows what the future holds for 3D? All Disney World theme parks are open 365 days a year, although opening and closing times for each park are different from day to day.If you are traveling without kids, try to visit it on a school day to avoid the largest crowds. If you need to visit it during a school vacation, try at least to avoid the week between Christmas and New Year’s Day and the Fourth of July. If you are not staying at a Disney World hotel, avoid visiting the Magic Kingdom on its Extra Magic Hours days. The hotel guests get into the park early on those days, increasing the waiting time for visitors who arrive at the normal opening time.Buy your Walt Disney World tickets online at Disney World’s website. There will be some advice on picking the right ticket. See the guide to Disney World tickets. You will also need to call in advance to make lunch or dinner reservations (预订). Disney accepts reservations, through 1-407-WDW-DINE, up to 180 days in advance. Time does pass quickly, so you should call six months before your trip to get a lunch reservation in the castle. We suggest you should have your lunch at Cinderella’s Royal Table for your tour. If you can’t get the reservation, ask for the Liberty Tree Tavern instead.Keep in mind that to reach the Magic Kingdom, you must park at D isney World’s Transportation and Ticket Center (TTC) parking lot, take a tram (有轨电车), and then take a boat across the Seven Seas Lagoon to the Magic Kingdom.5. The Magic Kingdom has Extra Magic Hours every day.D. Visitors have to reach the Magic Kingdom by tram and then boat.CThe origins of the apple tree are in Asia. We know that 8,500 years ago apples were beinggrown and eaten in ancient Jericho, a city near the Jordan River. In some parts of the ancient world apples could only be afforded by royalty (王室成员) and their courts, and were a popular dessert as long ago as 4,500 years. Now the apple is the most popular fruit in the world. You probably know that there’s a tradition for students to bring shiny apples to their favorite teachers. But why?No one knows for sure. The idea of "an apple for the teacher" has been with us since the late 1800s. Perhaps the custom grew out of the fact that apples are ripe (老练的) in September, when the school year usually begins. In earlier times, students, particularly those in rural areas, could pick apples from trees on their way to school. They were easy gifts for children to give. However, the lovely practice took on a dark note if the other children thought the gift-giver was trying to buy the teacher into giving him or her better grades. "Apple polisher" came to mean someone who tries to please a superior (上级) in return for special treatment. It was a popular college slang (俚语) term in the 1920s, but the term isn’t used much any more. It’s true that apples can be very attractive. The apple is America’s favorite fruit, as shown in the phrase, "as American as Mom and apple pie".After all, who ever says, "A banan a a day keeps the doctor away" or "You’re the banana of my eye"? And who brings a banana to his or her teacher? Nobody.8. What do we learn about the apple from the passage?A. It has been popular worldwide since 8,500 years ago.B. It has been a popular dessert for about 4,500 years.C. The origins of the apple tree are in America.D. Everyone could enjoy this fruit in the ancient world.9.Why did students give their teachers apples?A. Apples were ripe when the school year began.B. Apples were the most popular fruit.C Apples were expensive enough as gifts.D. Teachers liked to get apples from students.10. Which of the following is TRUE about the phrase "apple polisher"?A. It is used to praise someone for his / her performance.B. It is still as popular nowadays as before.C. It may mean something good or bad, depending on the situation.D. It refers to someone who wants to please a leader.11. What do we learn from the last two paragraphs?A. Apples are related to mothers in America.B .Apple is a popular word, and used in many phrases.C. Apples are attractive because of many stories.D. Nobody wants to use the word banana.DOne of the special features of English people is self-discipline (自律). Generally, English people are polite and always want to please others. On the other hand, they don’t like to show their emotions, even in dangerous situations. Imagine the scene! Some English people are caught in a violent storm in the forest. Anybody else would be anxious to run away. The English would just try to hide their emotions. Not a sign of fear would be seen on their faces. We often hear of the English "reserve"(矜持). On a long railway journey, with fourEnglishmen sitting together, often there won’t be a single word spoken during the whole journey. The English think it is a bad manner to ask personal questions. That wouldn’t be the case in America. In a short ride in New York, a taxi driver will tell you about himself, his wife and his family, and probably the towns of England he has visited, too.The English value privacy (隐私) very much. An Englishman’s house usually has a small garden with a fence all around to separate it from the neighbors’. An Englishman’s house is his castle. Finally, we have to refer to the most special feature of the Scottish (苏格兰的) people —the Scottish dress. Scotland is probably best known to the world for its traditional costume —the kilt. This short, skirt-like piece of clothing is worn by men.The kilt is made of a special type of colorful cloth called tartan, which is very special in Scotland.12. When the English are in a dangerous situation they usually _______.A. laugh at other peopleB. behave very bravelyC. hide their emotionsD. run away immediately13. They usually don’t respect others’ privacy.D. They prefer a house with a garden to a flat.

I would be a different person if my mom hadn't turned a silly bicycle accessory(配件) into a life lesson I carry with me today. It was summer and, one day, my mother drove me to the bike shop to get a tire fixed—and there it was in the window. White, shiny, plastic and decorated with daisies, the basket seemed so appealing and I knew I had to have it.“Mom, please can I get it? I'll do extra chores for as long as you say. I'll do anything, but I need that basket. I love that basket. Please, Mom. Please?”“You know,”she said, gently rubbing my back while we both stared at what I believed was the coolest thing ever, “If you save up, you could buy this yourself.”“By the time I make enough it'll be gone!”“Maybe Roger here could hold it for you,”she smiled at Roger, the bike guy.“For that long? He can't hold it for that long, Mom. Someone else will buy it. Please, Mom, please?”“There might be another choice,”she said. My mother bought the beautiful basket and put it safely out of reach in some hiding place I couldn't find. Each week I eagerly counted my growing nest egg earned by extra work here and there (washing the car, helping my mother make dinner, delivering milk around the neighborhood). And then, weeks later maybe, I counted, re-counted and jumped for joy. Oh, I made it! I finally had the exact amount we'd agreed upon.Days later, the unthinkable happened. A neighborhood girl I'd played with appeared with the exact same basket fixed to her shiny, new bike. I rode my bike fast home to tell my mother about this disaster, this horrible turn of events. And then came the lesson I've taken with me through my life: “Honey, your basket is extra-special,”Mom said, gently wiping away my hot tears. “Your basket is special because youpaid for it yourself.”()26. All it takes is setting aside five minutes every evening before you end your work to establish the one goal you will accomplish tomorrow. Sometimes, the hardest part of getting things done is deciding which thing to work on first. If this decision making has to happen first thing in the morning, it can create a block to progress, which is no way to start your day. By giving yourself a head start the night before, you're allowing your most productive work hours—in the morning—to be used to the fullest by not having to wonder about on choose what you'll work on first.Having a morning routine is one of the best things you've done for yourself. It not only helps you set your day up to be successful by gaining great power first in the morning, but it also allows you to guarantee that you are going to get a set number of things done right away. This way, no matter what your day brings, you should keep in mind that your health and nutrition are the most important. Your morning routine includes a workout, drinking water, meditation(冥想), and ensuring you get the nutrients you need to perform at a high level all day.One of the common mistakes people make is to focus entirely on whatever task is next on their list and promise not to move or pause until it's done. Tasks will expand to the time assigned. Instead, try to be inspired from successful people and setting up timed periods for both focused work and breaks. Establishing sections where you have a set amount of focus time followed by a set amount of refresh time prevents you from being distracted(注意力不集中的) and helps you make great progress on the tasks and projects you're working on.Being extremely future-focused and ambitious is great, but if you're always moving from one task to another, you could be missing out on a big growth opportunity. In order to learn what's working and what's not working, you need to spend time reflecting. Set aside some time at least every 10 days to reflect on the good, the bad, and everything in between. When you can identify what's working, you'll know what to double down on. You'll also be able to identify the things that are holding you back from getting where you want to go, and to think out solutions for those struggles in order to remove them in the future. If you really want to get more done, you have to stop focusing on what you can't do, and start focusing on everything that's going right. Being grateful will not only increase your happiness factor, it will also make you more productive. When you have a positive attitude and take time out to recognize everything you have to be grateful for, you're able to focus on the many things youhead start the night before.Adjust your morningroutine●It helps you set your day up for __33__ by gaining greatpower first in the morning.●It also allows you to guarantee that you are going to get a setnumber of things done right away.●No matter how you arrange your day, the most important thingis your health and ____34__.____35__ work intosections●Take ____36__ from successful people and set up timedperiods for both focused work and breaks.●Establishing sections helps you ____37__ distractions andmake great progress on the tasks and projects you're working on.Make time for 10-dayrecaps(重述要点)●You need to allow __38__ time to learn what's working andwhat's not working.●Set aside some time at least every 10 days to reflect on thingswhether they are good or bad.Be thankful●____39__ what you can't do and focus on what you can do.●Being grateful will make you feel ____40__ and increase yourproductivity.31. ____________32. ____________33. ____________34. ____________35. ____________36. ____________37. ____________38. ____________39. ____________40.

According to the Guinness Book of World Records, Gert Mittring of Germany can look at a list of 22 numbers for just four secondsand remember all of them. Most people, though, have trouble justremembering where they put their car keys, or recalling the names of peoplethey've recently met for the first time. The process by which we store and recall information in our brains has been the focus of scientific research for many years. The brain is not fully understood, and theories about how it works remain a topic of debate. One area of the brain known as the hippocampus is important in the process of recalling information. When we experience something, the information is carried by our senses to the hippocampus, where it is processed.Although the process of creating memories is only partly understood, it probably involves three main steps. Scientists believe that the brain cellscalled neurons first change the sensory stimuli (感觉刺激)we experienceinto images in our immediate memory. Then, these images are sent to thehippocampus and stored for a time in short-term memory. In the hippocampus, information is organised, and it is during this process that parts of the image of our experience disappear. Finally, certain information then becomes the long-term memory in the partof the brain known as the cerebral cortex, which may happen while we are sleeping.Although memory function is difficult to understand, memory loss is something that many people experience and worry about as they age. In the past, neuroscientistsbelieved that age-related memory problems were related to total number of braincells. The thought was that the brain contained a limited number of irreplaceableneurons, and as we got older, we used up available cells. But recent researchsuggests new brain cells may be made throughout a lifetime. Also, now there isevidence that damage to the hippocampus may lead to memory loss. Patients stillmay recall memories stored before the brain was damaged, but are unable to remember new facts. In addition, diseases related to old age, such as Alzheimer's, and other problems involving short and long-term memory loss, are now being connected to possible damage to the hippocampus.Although the exact process by which memories are coded (编码)and recovered remains a mystery, we do know that the power to recall information has something to do with food and sleep. Studies suggest that eating foods containing vitamin E, such as green vegetables, is one way of limiting age-related memory loss. Also, getting a good night's sleep can also help us remember things more clearly.1.The passage is mainly about _____________ .A.the parts of the brain that store informationB.illness that results in serious brain injuryC.the system and the function of the brainD.memory formation and memory loss2.What activity takes place in the hippocampus?A.Information is organised.B.Long-term memory is formed.C.Immediate memory is created.D.Sensory stimuli are changed into images.3.Which two things have NOT been proven to be related?A.Alzheimer's disease and old age.B.Eating habits and age-related memory loss.C.The number of brain cells and memory length.D.Sleep and remembering information more clearly.4.Mr. Lee, whose hippocampus was damaged two years ago, is most likely to remember ____ .A.undergoing an operation after the accidentB.going to a summer baseball camp ten years agoC.shopping in the supermarket yesterday morningD.having Christmas dinner with his family last yearDEinstein's $1.5 Million Tip to a BellboyIn addition to being a scientist, a philosopher (哲学家),and somewhat of a funny guy, Albert Einstein was something even more admirable: a good tipper. We know this because a piece of paper the Nobel Prize winner gave a bellboy as a tip sold for more than $1.5 million at auction (拍卖).As the story goes, Einstein was traveling to Japan to give alecture series when he found out he'd been awarded the NobelPrize in physics. News of the award spread quickly and Einstein, somewhat bothered by all of the attention, kept himself in hisroom at a hotel in Tokyo.A bit embarrassed by all the publicity he was receiving, Einstein tried to write down his thoughts and feelings. Just then, a bellboy came to Einstein's room to deliver a message. Not expecting him, Einstein didn't have any small change to tip him, and instead gave the bellboy a pair of the writings he'd been working on. Aware that his fame in the world was rising, Einstein supposedly told the Japanese messenger the notes would turn out to be more valuable than a regular tip if he was lucky. The two notes were both written in German and signed by Einstein himself. The first note offered the professor's “theory for happiness” It read: “A calm and modest life brings more happiness than the pursuit of success combined with constant restlessness (不安).” The second one simply said, “Where there's a will, there's a way.”Tested or not, the theory does appear to be at least somewhat correct. According to a study of the connection between the life success and well-being of more than 275,000 people, happinesscreates personal and professional success more often than success in those areas leads to happiness.Even if his philosophical thoughts contain no scientific value, the notes do shine a little light on Einstein's private thoughts. “What we're doing here is painting the picture of Einstein — the man, the scientist, his effect on the world---through his writings,” said Roni Grosz, who is in charge of the world's largest Einstein collection at Hebrew University.Whether the bellboy was able to benefit from Einstein's happiness theory is unclear, but the notes did eventually bring some joy to one of his relatives when they were sold — the second note brought in $250,000, while the first one that lists Einstein's happiness theory sold for $1.56 million.5.How did Einstein feel about the public attention brought by winning the Nobel Prize?A. Confident.B. Regretful.C. Encouraged.D. Troubled.6. Why did Einstein give the bellboy the two notes as a tip?A. He didn't have small change with him at the time.B. The bellboy was interested in his thoughts and feelings.C . The bellboy delivered the message that he won the prize.D . The notes would become more valuable than a regular tip.7. From the passage we can know that _______________ .A. the second note sold for more moneyB. Roni Grosz is painting a picture of EinsteinC . Einstein went to Japan to give some lecturesD . the two notes brought great wealth to the bellboy8. Which of the following is most similar to Einstein's “theory for happiness”?A . People are just as happy as they make up their minds to be.B . The search for happiness is one of the chief sources of unhappiness.C . Happiness is a by-product of an effort to make someone else happy.D . Success is getting what you want; happiness is wanting what you get.【写作训练】阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

1.To make sure that he was remembered with love and respect. Nobel arranged in his ______ to give the largest part of his money to establish the Nobel prizes, which would be awarded to people who made great contributions to the causes of peace, literature, and the sciences.
A. book
B. article
C. will
D. contract
2. It has been argued by some that gifted children should be grouped in special classes, The arguement has been on the belief that in regular classes these children are held back in their intellectual (智力的) growth by learning situation that has designed for the children.
A. smart
B. curious
C. mature
D. average
