A Love Letter

Recently, Mary had transferred to a new school. The former school she had studied in wasa strictly-run private school, whichwas good in every aspect except that the food there was distributed on the table in advance, so everything had cooled down before she got there, especially in winter. Concerned about their daughter’s health, Mary’s parents decided to change school for her, and therefore, she became a transferred student of Grade Two in a local middle school.

Stepping in the school gate, her heart was filled with expectation, the joys and friends she would have and the best memory she would own. However, hardly had she got in the classroom when she began to feel a bit regret. Though it was normal for a new comer to bear others’discussion, she really couldn’t stand it. She felt lonely and every night she dreamt of getting back to the old school and meeting old friends, but when she woke up, it was nothing but a dream. How she hoped the new school life was a dream instead! She was thirsty for friendship and eventually, she found one.It was Gwen, a girl sitting next to her, who was one year older. She helped Mary to get familiar to the circumstances such as how to buy her lunch with her school card, which made Mary very grateful. Therefore, they became peas and carrots.

During her stay in the school, Mary found that almost every student

here cared much about their appearances, which in some point pushed her to pay more attention to hers. Standing in front of a mirror, she saw a slender girl at the age of 13,with rather short hair. She used to have long black hair but had it cut because a hair dryer was forbidden in this school. What was even more upset was that she had got more whelks on her face, and whatever done to remove them was useless. Every time her roommates talked about their boyfriends with excitement, she just listened and smiled but felt light blue. In order to drown her sorrow, she devoted herself to studies and performed well in exams.

But still Mary wanted to be as pretty as Gwen, who had many followers. Deeply in heart she wanted to be appreciated, too, or even received a love letter, which she would definitely decline but keep it with happiness.

One day, when she was reading in the classroom, her roommate delivered her a piece of paper.

“It is from a boy! A love letter!”She told Mary, her eyes shining with curiosity. Everyone in the classroom cast their eyes towards her.

She felt her face blush and her heart beat hard, but soon she calmed herself down, took the letter and put it under the book.

When she came back to the dormitory, sitting in her bed, she opened the piece of paper; a line of words came into her view.

“Dear Mary, please don’t tear it off before you read the whole letter.
