同时，专有MIMO技术可改进已有802.11a/b/g 网络的性能。
该技术最早是由Marconi于1908年提出的，它利用多天线来抑制信道衰落。
根据收发两端天线数量，相对于普通的SISO(Single-Input Single-Output)系统，MIMO还可以包括SIMO(Single-Input Multi-ple-Output)系统和MISO(Multiple-InputSingle-Output)系统。
OFDM(Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing)即正交频分复用技术：实际上OFDM是MCM Multi-CarrierModulation，多载波调制的一种。
其主要思想是：将信道分成若干正交子信道，将高速数据信号转换成并行的低速子数据流，调制到在每个子信道上进行传输。
