China, and is the most populous（人口稠密的） city in Central China. It lies at the east of the Jianghan Plain, and the intersection （交汇处） of the middle reaches of the Yangtze and Han rivers. Arising out of the conglomeration（聚集） of three boroughs （市镇）, Wuchang, Hankou, and Hanyang, Wuhan is known as “the nine provinces‟ leading thoroughfare（通行）”; it is a major transportation（交通） hub（中心）, with dozens of railways, roads and expressways passing through the city.
