1.阅读(15分)Older Volcanic EruptionsVolcanoes were more destructive in ancient history, not because they were bigger, but because the carbon dioxide they released wiped out life with greater ease.Paul Wignall from the University of Leeds was investigating the link between volcanic eruptions and mass extinctions. He had to give all his spoken responses in a recording booth with a time limit. One question made him explain a complex scientific concept, like nuclear fusion or something. And he really had to show off his English speaking skillsby using advanced vocabulary, proper grammar, good organization, and clear pronunciation.There was also a writing section where he had to type out things like design specifications, progress reports, proposals, and technical definitions.
