大学英语在线教育作文答案

大学英语在线教育作文答案

In the modern era, the landscape of education has been revolutionized by the advent of technology. One of the most significant changes has been the rise of online learning, particularly in the realm of college education. As a high school student, I have always been fascinated by the idea of learning beyond the confines of a traditional classroom. The prospect of attending university courses online has always intrigued me, and I have taken the opportunity to explore this avenue. My journey into online university education began with a simple curiosity about the flexibility and convenience it offers. I remember the first time I logged onto an online platform, the excitement was palpable. The interface was userfriendly, and the course materials were wellorganized. It felt like I had entered a vast library where knowledge was just a click away. The first course I took was an introductory module in psychology. The professor, who was based thousands of miles away, delivered lectures through prerecorded videos. What struck me was the clarity and depth of the content. The professor had a knack for making complex theories accessible and engaging. The online format allowed me to pause, rewind, and replay the lectures as many times as I needed to fully grasp the concepts. One of the most appealing aspects of online education is the ability to learn at my own pace. As a high school student with a busy schedule, the flexibility was a gamechanger. I could log in to the course platform after school, during weekends, or even during a break between classes. This flexibility allowed me to balance my academic commitments with otheractivities, such as sports and volunteering. Moreover, the online platform facilitated interaction with peers from diverse backgrounds. Discussion forums were a hub of intellectual exchange where I could share ideas, ask questions, and receive feedback. This global perspective enriched my learning experience, exposing me to different viewpoints and cultural insights. However, online education is not without its challenges. One of the most significant hurdles I faced was staying motivated and disciplined. Without the structure of a physical classroom and the immediate feedback from instructors, it was easy to procrastinate or lose focus. To overcome this, I had to develop a strict study schedule and hold myself accountable for meeting deadlines.Another challenge was the lack of facetoface interaction with the professor. While the online platform provided ample opportunities for virtual communication, there were times when I felt the need for more personal guidance. To bridge this gap, I made a conscious effort to engage with the professor through emails and virtual office hours, which proved to be quite effective.Despite these challenges, the benefits of online university education far outweigh the drawbacks. The convenience, flexibility, and global connectivity have opened up a world of opportunities for me as a high school student. It has allowed me to explore subjects that I might not have had the chance to delve into otherwise. In conclusion, my experience with online university education has been incredibly rewarding. It has not only enhanced my academic knowledge but also equipped me with essential skills such as time management, selfdiscipline, and effective communication. As I look forward to my future in higher education, I am grateful for the head start that online learning has provided. It has given me a glimpse into the world of university education and prepared me for the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.。

2-6Directions: Read the following passages. Each passage is followed by some questions. For each of them there are four choices marked A, B, C and D. Choose the best answer.A Hero that Creates HeroesErnest Miller Hemingway, American novelist and short-story writer, awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1954. He was noted both for the intense masculinity of his writing and for his adventurous and widely publicized life. His succinct and lucid prose style exerted a powerful influence on American and British fiction in the 20th century. The first son of Clarence Edmonds Hemingway, a doctor, and Grace Hall Hemingway, Ernest Miller Hemingway was born in a suburb of Chicago. He was educated in the public schools and began to write in high school, where he was active and outstanding, but the parts of his boyhood that mattered most were summers spent with his family on Walloon Lake in upper Michigan. On graduation from high school in 1917, impatient for a less sheltered environment, he did not enter college but went to Kansas City, where he was employed as a reporter for the Star. He was repeatedly rejected for military service because of a defective eye, but he managed to enter World War I as an ambulance driver for the American Red Cross. On July 8, 1918, not yet 19 years old, he was injured on the Austro-Italian front at Fossalta di Piave. Decorated for heroism and hospitalized in Milan, he fell in love with a Red Cross nurse, Agnes von Kurowsky, who declined to marry him. These were experiences he was never to forget. After recuperating at home, Hemingway renewed his efforts at writing, for a while worked at odd jobs in Chicago, and sailed for France as a foreign correspondent for the Toronto Star. Advised and encouraged by other American writers in Paris--F. Scott Fitzgerald, Gertrude Stein, Ezra Pound--he began to see his nonjournalistic work appear in print there, and in 1923 his first important book, a collection of stories called In Our Time, was published in New York City. In 1926 he published The Sun Also Rises, a novel with which he scored his first solid success. A pessimistic but sparkling book, it deals with a group of aimless expatriates in France and Spain--members of the postwar "lost generation," a phrase that Hemingway scorned while making it famous. This work also introduced him to the limelight, which he both craved and resented for the rest of his life. Hemingway's The Torrents of Spring, a parody of the American writer Sherwood Anderson's book Dark Laughter, also appeared in 1926.The writing of books occupied him for most of the postwar years. He remained based in Paris, but he traveled widely for the skiing, bullfighting, fishing, or hunting that by then had become part of his life and formed the background for much of his writing. His position as a master of short fiction had been advanced by Men Without Women in 1927 and thoroughly established with the stories in Winner Take Nothing in 1933. Among his finest stories are "The Killers," "The Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber," and "The Snows of Kilimanjaro." At least in the public view, however, the novel A Farewell to Arms (1929) overshadowed such works. Reaching back to his experience as a young soldier in Italy, Hemingway developed a grim but lyrical novel of great power, fusing love story with war story. While serving with the Italian ambulance service during World War I, the American lieutenant Frederic Henry falls in love with the English nurse Catherine Barkley, who tends him during his recuperation after being wounded. She becomes pregnant by him, but he must return to his post. Henry deserts during the Italians' disastrous retreat after the Battle of Caporetto, and the reunited couple flee Italy by crossing the border into Switzerland. There, however, Catherine and her baby die during childbirth, leaving Henry desolate at the loss of the great love of his life.Hemingway's love of Spain and his passion for bullfighting resulted in Death in the Afternoon (1932), a learned study of a spectacle he saw more as tragic ceremony than as sport. Similarly, a safari he took in 1933-34 in the big-game region of Tanganyika resulted in The Green Hills of Africa (1935), an account of big-game hunting. Mostly for the fishing, he bought a house in Key West, Florida, and bought his own fishing boat. A minor novel of 1937 called To Have and Have Not is about a Caribbean desperado and is set against a background of lower-class violence and upper-class decadence in Key West during the Great Depression.By now Spain was in the midst of civil war. Still deeply attached to that country, Hemingway made four trips there, once more a correspondent. He raised money for the Republicans in their struggle against the Nationalists under General Francisco Franco, and he wrote a play called The Fifth Column (1938), which is set in besieged Madrid. As in many of his books, the protagonist of the play is based on the author. Following his last visit to the Spanish war he purchased Finca Vigía ("Lookout Farm"), an unpretentious estate outside Havana, Cuba, and went to cover another war--the Japanese invasion of China. The harvest of Hemingway's considerable experience of Spain in war and peace was the novel For Whom the Bell Tolls (1940), a substantial and impressive work that some critics consider his finest novel, in preference to A Farewell to Arms. It was also the most successful of all his books as measured in sales. Set during the Spanish Civil War, it tells of Robert Jordan, an American volunteer who is sent to join a guerrilla band behind the Nationalist lines in the Guadarrama Mountains. Most of the novel concerns Jordan's relations with the varied personalities of the band, including the girl Maria, with whom he falls in love. Through dialogue, flashbacks, and stories, Hemingway offers telling and vivid profiles of the Spanish character and unsparingly depicts the cruelty and inhumanity stirred up by the civil war. Jordan's mission is to blow up a strategic bridge near Segovia in order to aid a coming Republican attack, which he realizes is doomed to fail. In an atmosphere of impending disaster, he blows up the bridge but is wounded and makes his retreating comrades leave him behind, where he prepares a last-minute resistance to his Nationalist pursuers. All of his life Hemingway was fascinated by war--in A Farewell to Arms he focused on its pointlessness, in For Whom the Bell Tolls on the comradeship it creates--and as World War II progressed he made his way to London as a journalist. He flew several missions with the Royal Air Force and crossed the English Channel with American troops on D-Day (June 6, 1944). Attaching himself to the 22nd Regiment of the 4th Infantry Division, he saw a good deal of action in Normandy and in the Battle of the Bulge. He also participated in the liberation of Paris and, although ostensibly a journalist, he impressed professional soldiers not only as a man of courage in battle but also as a real expert in military matters, guerrilla activities, and intelligence collection.Following the war in Europe, Hemingway returned to his home in Cuba and began to work seriously again. He also traveled widely, and on a trip to Africa he was injured in a plane crash. Soon after (in 1953), he received the Pulitzer Prize in fiction for The Old Man and the Sea (1952), a short, heroic novel about an old Cuban fisherman who, after an extended struggle, hooks and boats a giant marlin only to have it eaten by voracious sharks during the long voyage home. This book, which played a role in gaining for Hemingway the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1954, was asenthusiastically praised as his previous novel, Across the River and into the Trees (1950), the story of a professional army officer who dies while on leave in Venice, had been damned.By 1960 Fidel Castro's revolution had driven Hemingway from Cuba. He settled in Ketchum, Idaho, and tried to lead his life and do his work as before. For a while he succeeded, but, anxiety-ridden and depressed, he was twice hospitalized at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, where he received electroshock treatments. Two days after his return to the house in Ketchum, he took his life with a shotgun. Hemingway had married four times and fathered three sons.He left behind a substantial amount of manuscript, some which has been published. A Moveable Feast, an entertaining memoir of his years in Paris (1921-26) before he was famous, was issued in 1964. Islands in the Stream, three closely related novellas growing directly out of his peacetime memories of the Caribbean island of Bimini, of Havana during World War II, and of searching for U-boats off Cuba, appeared in 1970.Hemingway's characters plainly embody his own values and view of life. The main characters of The Sun Also Rises, A Farewell to Arms, and For Whom the Bell Tolls are young men whose strength and self-confidence nevertheless coexist with a sensitivity that leaves them deeply scarred by their wartime experiences. War was for Hemingway a potent symbol of the world, which he viewed as complex, filled with moral ambiguities, and offering almost unavoidable pain, hurt, and destruction. To survive in such a world, and perhaps emerge victorious, one must conduct oneself with honor, courage, endurance, and dignity, a set of principles known as "the Hemingway code." To behave well in the lonely, losing battle with life is to show "grace under pressure" and constitutes in itself a kind of victory, a theme clearly established in The Old Man and the Sea.Hemingway's prose style was probably the most widely imitated of any in the 20th century. He wished to strip his own use of language of inessentials, ridding it of all traces of verbosity, embellishment, and sentimentality. In striving to be as objective and honest as possible, Hemingway hit upon the device of describing a series of actions using short, simple sentences from which all comment or emotional rhetoric have been eliminated. These sentences are composed largely of nouns and verbs, have few adjectives and adverbs, and rely on repetition and rhythm for much of their effect. The resulting terse, concentrated prose is concrete and unemotional yet is often resonant and capable of conveying great irony through understatement. Hemingway's use of dialogue was similarly fresh, simple, and natural-sounding. The influence of this style was felt worldwide wherever novels were written, particularly from the 1930s through the '50s.A consummately contradictory man, Hemingway achieved a fame surpassed by few, if any, American authors of the 20th century. The virile nature of his writing, which attempted to re-create the exact physical sensations he experienced in wartime, big-game hunting, and bullfighting, in fact masked an aesthetic sensibility of great delicacy. He was a celebrity long before he reached middle age, but his popularity continues to be validated by serious critical opinion.1. But I am sharing these thoughts with others who most likely do not know my friend or my sister-in law or the gal I work with. Therefore I think I should write about someone famous. But it seems that these days there are not a lot of good role models to choose from. At least not from the "typical" choices that we usually think of as role models. I realize celebrities' private lives should be just that; but when a person is in the limelight perhaps they should use that notoriety for some sort of good.(2) There are some criteria that my role model must possess. First, she must be close to my age. She has to have overcome some obstacle, or maybe better said, did not have her "celebrity" status handed to her. Finally, she must be helping others. Sharing the blessings she has received with others.(3) I believe that someone who fits those criteria quite well is Oprah Winfrey.(4) Oprah Winfrey's life has had a very difficult and tumultuous beginning. She was born in 1954 to a poor, unmarried black girl living in the very racially segregated state Mississippi. For a while, Oprah was raised by her grandmother, after her mother moved north. She eventually went to live with her father in Nashville, after having survived body abuse and the birth and death of a baby of her own.(5) Oprah's rise to fame began in Baltimore, then Chicago, with her hosting morning talk shows, such as A. M. Chicago. She became so popular that in 1986, she launched The Oprah Winfrey Show. Oprah began her own production company, Harpo, and obtained control of The Oprah Winfrey Show, which was now in syndication.(6) In 1994, Oprah did something that caught my attention and with which she gained my respect. She decided to break away from the mold of other daytime talk show and pledged that her show would be free from "tabloid topics." Her viewers responded slowly, but very positively, and herpopularity surged. The Oprah Winfrey Show was now centered on uplifting meaningful subjects, many of which are aimed towards women..(7) Oprah has used her gaining popularity, in my opinion, to launch many meaningful projects. She launched Oprah's Book Club in 1996. The Book Club is an on-air reading club intended to get the country excited about literature again. To date, all the book club selections have become instant bestsellers. Oprah's Angel Network was started in 1997, encouraging people to open their hearts to those in need. This includes a project to collect small change to send students to college and to sponsor Habitat for Humanity Programs.(8) Oprah has been able to share her blessings with others while keeping her pledge to focus The Oprah Winfrey Show on subjects that will encourage her viewers. Each week her shows cover such topics as spirituality, wellness, fitness, relationships, steps towards financial freedom and more.(9) Winfrey's talent for public performance and spontaneity in answering questions helped her win fame. Winfrey talk show has an estimated audience of 14 million daily in the U. S. and millions more in 132 other countries-predominantly women. She is also an accomplished actress and won an Academy Award nomination for her role in The Color Purple.(10) Another reason that I admire Oprah is because she genuinely seems to be "just a regular gal." Her book, "Make the Connection" shows how Oprah is like any other woman. The painful revelations she shares about her struggle with weight loss really touched me. Even as she was given an Emmy Award, her thoughts were on how heavy she must look in the dress she was wearing. Once, I went to a lecture given by one of Oprah's favorite authors. As we were sitting before the lecture began, a couple of black women walked in. My friend said, "oh look, there's Oprah," I said, "no it's not," she said, "yes it is" and back and forth we went. Well, as it turns out, it was Oprah. She looked just like the rest of us; she did not come in amongst media frenzy as might be expected. When the speaker introduced her, she was almost embarrassed to stand. (11) I feel Oprah is a genuinely nice person, someone who would be a great girl friend. She has a head on her shoulders and knows where she is going. She has made a name for herself and is not embarrassed by her wealth and knows the importance of sharing the blessings that have been bestowed upon her.1. Taken alone, those findings are hardly groundbreaking. What's noteworthy is the rest of the picture that emerges from that study: Those broadband users are younger, richer , and better informed than their narrowband counterparts. They spend more time and money online and are more likely to buy customized products and services. So why hasn't the Internet become the focus for broadband companies seeking to establish relationships with a demographic that has demonstrated a preference for their product? Simply put, until recently, their attempts fell flat.Just over a year ago, our agency launched an online performance-based e-marketing campaign to promote a broadband service. Despite engaging creative and a compelling offer, it met with resounding silence. Six months later, the response was only marginally better. So we were only cautiously optimistic two months later when we launched another campaign for the same advertiser, using the same offer. This time, it was a success. Response rates tripled and the customer acquisition cost dropped from $300 to under $100.Clearly, the floodgates have opened and the most sought-after consumers are rushing through to broadband. And while the surge in response wasn't a complete surprise given the emphasis placed on marketing broadband services, it was enough to make us curious about what other factors were at play. What we discovered was a scenario where so many people have experienced broadband's superiority at work, school, and even in friends' homes that they know what they're missing.According to U.S. News & World Report, some 20 million households nationwide now have broadband, with another 100,000 signing up each week. That saturation has created a market of increasingly discontent dial-up subscribers for broadband companies to reach.Imagine the impact when -- as dial-up users impatiently wait for Web pages to load -- an ad pops up promising lightning-fast access. Their response starts an on going relationship managed through newsletters and other e-mail communications designed to keep them informed about value-added services, special promotions, etc.? Not only is it a demographic pre-disposed to online CRM, it is also one that is far from oversold. In fact, less than one-third of U.S. households will subscribe to a broadband service by 2006. And as services designed specifically for broadband increase and support for dial-up declines, the 42 percent of Internet users who said they didn't need broadband will become receptive to a well-focused CRM program. ? But it won't last forever. While the window of opportunity to reach broadband buyers online is open, it's not likely to stay that way. Broadband may be the current heir apparent for connectivity, but wireless has given every indication it will be a sleeper hit, emerging from nowhere to take the top spot.In short, the time for broadband companies to establish online customer relation ships is now -- before the window slams shut.1. What is NOT mentioned as the result of Forrester Research in the first paragraph?a.A lot of online shoppers access the Internet by broadband.b.Broadband users get more information than the dial-up usersc. It is probable for broadband users to buy the products specially made for them.d.It is the first time for people to find out the number of broadband and narrowband users.2. What did the online performance-based e-marketing campaign bring at first?a.the promotion of a broadband service.b.Cautious responses.c.No response at all.d.Some marginal responses.3. Why did another campaign become a success later?a.Because the agency has used a compelling offer.b.Because people have enjoyed the broadband's advantages in their daily life.c.Because the agency has spent a lot of money on the advertisements.d.Because people become curious about the broadband.4. It can be inferred from the passage that____. ?a.Few is likely to use dial-up in the future.b.Broadband companies should establish online customer relationships now.c.About 20 million households nationwide now have broadband.d.People design more services specially for broadband.5. What is the main idea of this passage? ?a.How Forrester Research got the valuable information.b.Why people want to use broadband.c.How broadband services find success in online CRM.d.Broadband services have GRE at influence on people.Passage 4The new president of the International Olympic Committee, Jacques Rogge, has benefited from an image as "Mr Clean." The 59-year-old Belgian orthopedic surgeon who specialises in sports medicine had successfully distanced himself from the bribery scandal involving Salt Lake City's successful bid for the 2002 Winter Games. One of his proud boasts was that he never visited cities bidding to host Olympic events.Head of the European Olympic Committee and IOC co-coordinator of the 2002 Sydney Olympics and 2004 Athens games, he has also been, importantly, vice-chairman of the IOC's anti-dopingpanel --- so was seen as an "ethically correct" candidate."You have also to be able to defend the values of sport, and they are threatened by doping, by violence, by corruption," he maintained. And his campaign looked doomed especially after the IOC's ethics commission probed reports--- which he denied--- he would offer IOC members $50,000 a year for an office and expenses if he became president.Rogge has had a relatively meteoric rise within the IOC, having joined only in 1991 and been executive board as recently as 1998. But he had gained a reputation as a reformer.Olympic-watchers point to his diplomatic skills--- an urbane charm, mastery of languages (he speaks Dutch, French, English, German and Spanish fluently) and non-confrontational style. His Olympian credentials stem from being a yachting competitor in the 1968,1972 and 1976 games. He pledged after his election to take the IOC forward."It is not an easy task but I believe sport has such great strengths that the IOC will remain successful. There are a lot of things to be done.""I'm not talking about victory--- I'm talking about decisions of the IOC. I hope to be innovative." Those working closely with Rogge say he is always determined in meetings despite his reputation as a consensus politician. They say the man is seen as "a fixer" and often resorts to medical language to describe his tactics, stressing that he is not afraid to attack a problem."As a surgeon where there is an abscess, you cut, you evacuate the pus and you let the body heal," he said. "If you have a problem you have to address it as soon as possible."Rogge says his surgical career has taught him about having a sense of responsibility, and remaining humble, calm and cool. He has medical offices in Ghent and his hometown, Deinze. He is expected to give up his medical practice to live and work in the IOC's home city of Lausanne, Switzerland, where, as president, he would receive no salary.Rogge is leading a campaign to downsize the Olympics and restore their human face, arguing that the games have become so massive and costly that only the wealthiest cities and countries are capable of staging them.He also believes that the reforms adopted following the Salt Lake City bribery scandal should be reviewed to determine whether they are working. Rogge advocates the reinstatement of visits to the bid cities by IOC members should probably be reexamined.1. According to the passage, which is Not true about Jacques Rogge?a.He was involved in the bribery scandal.b.He has medical offices in Ghent and Deinze.c.He took part in the yachting competitor in the 1968, 1973 and 1976 games.d.He is the new president of the International Olympic Committee.2. Why was Rogge seen as an 'ethically correct' candidate?a.Because he never visited cities bidding to host Olympic events.b.Because he is a reformer.。
