How about that elephants never forget things? Or that dogs can smell the strange? That may not be 100% true. However, many animals do have stronger senses than humans.①Do animals have a sixth sense that can tell the future? That may sound out of this world. However, many events seem to support this idea.①Thousands of years ago, a big earthquake hit Helike, Greece. Buildings came down. Many people were hurt. But there was something amazing. The city’s animals acted strangely days before the earthquake. Rats and snakes ran from the city in groups. Did they know an earthquake was coming? In 1975, one million people had to leave their hometown, Haicheng, Liaoning Province with the help of Chinese government. Why? They believed a disaster was coming. They thought this, in part, because of animals’ strange behaviours. Just days later, a large earthquake hit the city. Experts (专家) said 150,000 could have lost their lives if people stayed in the city at that time. In December 2004, the animals of Sri Lanka were acting strange. Elephants ran around. Dogs wouldn’t go outside. Zoo animals wouldn’t leave their home. Soon after people saw these strange behaviours, a tsunami (海啸) hit the island.①Animals seem to be pretty good at predicting (预测) disasters. But it doesn’t stop there! Some of them even seem to sense small changes in the weather before they happen. Bees are known to find places before it rains. Dairy farmers say they can tell a big storm is coming when their cows lie down. Cats and dogs are also said to know when a storm is on its way, as are birds and turtles. Can animals really tell the future?①Experts say it’s unlikely (不可能的) that animals can tell the future. However, they might hear or feel the earthquake before people do. Even though scientists have not proved animals have the ability to predict disasters before they happen and animals’ predictions aren’t always right, it’s not bad to pay attention to the animals. 26.According to the passage, we know many animals ________.A.can tell the future in different ways B.have better sense abilities than humans C.act strangely after some natural disasters D.use the sixth sense to predict earthquakes27.The word “behaviours” in Paragraph 3 probably means “________”.A.actions B.senses C.ideas D.feelings 28.How many examples do the writer use in Paragraph 3 to support the idea that animals can tell the future?A.Two.B.Three.C.Four D.Five. 29.What’s Paragraph 4 mainly about?A.Animals are good at helping farmers.B.Animals are good at finding their homes.C.Animals seem to know the future problems.D.Animals seem to know the weather changes.30.Which of the following would be the best title for the passage?A.Can Animals Predict the Future?B.Do Animals Have Stronger Senses?C.How Do Animals Save People’s Life?D.What Are Animals’ Ways to Tell the Future?八Think back to a time in your life when you tried something new. When I was a teenager I volunteered to pass out water at a local race. I was so excited to see all the different runners who passed by and quickly took a cup of water. Some ran past, some walked past and a few wheeled past.I saw so many kinds of people doing it. I thought maybe I could do it too! The next year I decided to run for the race, but I had little running practice. I just wanted to finish. On the day of the race, it was terribly hot. After running for about 5 miles, I was thinking, “I must be crazy. Why did I do this? What was I thinking?” And at one moment, I said to myself, “I am never doing this again!”That first 10 km race was quite an experience. I jogged, I walked, I jogged and walked. At times, I didn’t know if I could finish.Near the end, a 70-year-old man ran past me, very fast, and I felt a little embarrassed (尴尬的) that I was more than 50 years younger than he and I couldn’t even keep up with him. But then I realized something. He was running his race and I was running mine. How often in life do we compare ourselves to others when we really shouldn’t? I decided that I would not give up on running races, and that one day I would be one of those 70-year-olds who were still running. As I crossed the finishing line, I was so proud of myself. I didn’t regret (后悔) having such an experience.31.Why did the writer join in the running race?A.He was crazy about running for the race.B.He just wanted to try something new.C.He though he had rich running experience.D.He expected to see if he was strong enough.32.How did the writer’s feeling change during the race?① He decided to keep on running.① He felt very proud of himself.① He was kind of embarrassed.① He regretted joining in the race.A.①→①→①→①B.①→①→①→①C.①→①→①→①D.①→①→①→①33.What did the writer try to tell us?A.We should volunteer as teenagers.B.We should cheer up for old people.C.We should run our own race in life.D.We should try our best to be No. 1.附答案及解析1.C 2.B 3.D 4.D 5.A解析:本文主要介绍富美子在纽约度过的快乐时光,及她对纽约的喜爱之情。

八年级英语早读阅读理解训练 Titanic Museum Attraction 课文原文

Titanic Museum AttractionOver a hundred years ago, the world-famous Titanic hit an iceberg and sank. It was the biggest and fastest ship of its time and thought to be unsinkable. Sadly, it wasn’t and more than 1,500 people on it lost their lives. Not long ago, I visited the Titanic Museum Attraction in a mountain city in East Tennessee, USA. It is a museum built in memory of the famous ship and the victims. In 1987, moviemaker John Joslyn and his team went into the deep sea to film the Titanic’s wreckage. They did a successful job for their movie. But Joslyn didn’t stop there. He knew that like him, many people were interested to know what those victims really experienced. He dreamed of a place where visitors could share the experience. In 2010, his dream came true with the building of the Titanic Museum Attraction. With over 400 exhibits in it, it is the world’s largest Titanic museum. The museum is housed in a Titanic-shaped ship. It is half the size of the real one. I walked on the ship under a starry sky and touched an “iceberg”. Then I put my hands into the cold water of the sea. It was the same temperature as the water on that dangerous night: -2.22℃. I had a better understanding of the feeling of those hopeless people that night. It was a meaningful visit! The museum gave me a chance to experience that exciting but sad day.。

深圳宝安区福永中学八年级英语上册期末阅读理解汇编doc一、八年级英语上册阅读理解专项训练1.阅读理解Have you ever wondered how and why a fall leaf changes color? We first have to understand what leaves are and what they do.Plants are the world's food factories. Plants take water from the ground and take CO2 from the air. Plants use sunlight to turn water and CO2 into glucose(葡萄糖). Glucose is a kind of sugar. Using it as food, plants get energy and grow. Plants using sunlight to turn water and CO2into sugar is called photosynthesis (光合作用). Chlorophyll helps photosynthesis. It gives plants their green color. As summer ends and autumn comes, the days get shorter and shorter, and trees "know" to begin getting ready for winter. During winter, there is not enough light or water for photosynthesis. Trees rest during this time and live on the food they store during the summer. They begin to shut down their food﹣making factories. As the green chlorophyll disappears from the leaves, we begin to see yellow and orange leaves. These colors have been in the leaves all the time. We just can't see them in the summer, because they are covered up by the green chlorophyll. The bright reds and purples we see in leaves are made mostly in autumn. In some trees, glucose is caught in the leaves after photosynthesis stops. Sunlight and the cool nights of autumn turn this glucose into a red color. The brown color of trees is made from waste left in the leaves. It is mixture of all these things. It makes the beautiful leaves during autumn.(1)The underline word "chlorophyll" in the passage means in Chinese.A. 胡萝卜素B. 叶绿素C. 维生素D. 花青素(2)When they rest in winter, trees live on the food they store during the .A. summerB. autumnC. winterD. spring(3)Plants use sunlight to turn into sugar.A. water and chlorophyllB. water and CO2C. 八年级上学期早读阅读理解练习 He Makes Sculptures From Tires

He Makes Sculptures From Tires
While most artists have to spend money on their materials, Blake McFarland doesn’t have this problem — he uses recycled rubber tires to create amazing life-like sculptures of animals. He uses 100 — 400 tires for one sculpture and it may take him up to a month to complete it.
Blake was born in California, USA. He played many sports and was good at baseball at school. After being a professional baseball player for several years, he decided to be a full-time artist. He created his first tire sculpture in 2012 and was lucky that it was bought by a local art gallery. It was a very important time in his life because from then on he knew that he could try and create more sculptures.
