你的信必须满足以下要求:1. 简述你写信的目的及你对场所的选择; 2. 说明你的理由(从便利性,专业性等方面对这两个场所进行对比)To whom it may concern:I have learned that an art exhibition is to be held and that you’re collecting suggestions on its location. I’m writing this letter to share with you my opinions. In my opinion, it is more advisable to hold the art exhibition in Shanghai Museum than in community libraries. My reasons are as follows. For one thing, it is more convenient for people to get to Shanghai Museum which is located in the center of the city. And the museum is much more spacious than community libraries, which provides visitors with a more comfortable environment for appreciating art.For the other, as a well-known museum, Shanghai Museum is more professional and experienced in holding art exhibitions. Its professional security guards and advanced facilities can better protect those famous paintings from being damaged or stolen. Therefore, I suggest the exhibition be held in the museum.Yours,Wang Min2013- 2广东卷【平凡工作(清洁工)的看法】阅读下面短文,然后按照要求写一篇150词左右的英语短文To many people even the word “work”sounds unpleasant ,not necessarily because they are lazy. The same man, who dislikes his job in the factory or even in the office ,may work hard at the weekend ,painting the house or digging the garden. What is the reason ,then ?In most cases ,it is because these people simply do not enjoy the Job they are doing .It does not give them any real satisfaction .It may be quite easy ,like making up wooden boxes ,but it is very boring.Very often they are doing a job which is just a small part ofa much larger one ,such as attaching a door handle to a car .But the part they play in actually making the car is so small that they can never say :I have made something !Yet in modern society somebody has to do ordinary jobs such as cleaning streets because this Is the way society is organized ,No matter how ordinary a job is, it plays a part in society and therefore deserves our due respect. Society cannot function a single day without the “dull and boring”jobs.[写作内容]1. 以约30个词概括上文的主要内容。

Today I’d like to talk about how to become a confident speaker. Confidence, as we all know, is a very important element in learning to speak English. How can you sound more confident when you speak English? First, speak often. The more often you speak, the easier it becomes. Try to think of people you can talk to in English or places where English is spoken a lot. You need to put yourself in a position where you need to speak. Second, relax and think about the message. It’s easy to get nervous if you only focus on the grammar rules when you’re speaking. The key to relaxing when you are speaking is to talk about something that you find interesting. Third, practice what you want to say. If you are nervous, try to practice what you want to say to yourself a few times. It can make you more confident.OK, that’s all for today. I got to know Dorothy in the early 1980s, when I was teaching Early Childhood Development through a program with Union College in Barbourville, Kentucky. The job responsibilities required occasional visits to the classroom of each teacher in the program. Dorothy stands out in my memory as one who “bloomed” in her remote area.Dorothy taught in a school In Harlan County, Kentucky, Appalachian Mountain area. To get to her school from the town of Harlan, I followed a road winding around the mountain. In the eight-mile journey, I crossed the same railroad track five times, giving the possibility of getting caught by the same train five times. Rather than feeling excited by this drive through the mountains, I found it depressing. The poverty level was shocking and the small shabby houses gave me the greatest feeling of hopelessness. From the moment of my arrival at the little school, all gloom (忧郁) disappeared. Upon arriving at Dorothy’s classroom. I was greeted with smiling faces and treated like a queen. The children had been prepared to show me their latest projects. About the size of a microwave oven, it’s pedestrian-friendly, too, waiting for book lovers next to a sidewalk in Palm Beach country Estates, along the northern boundary of Palm Beach Gardens. It’s a library built with love.A year ago, shortly after Janey Henriksen saw a Brian Williams report about the Little Free Library organization, a Wisconsin-based nonprofit that aims to promote literacy and build a sense of community in a neighborhood by making books freely available, she announced to her family of four, “That’s what we’re going to do for our spring break!”Son Austin, now a 10th-grader, didn’t see the point of building a library that resembles a mailbox. But Janey insisted, and husband Peter unwillingly got to work. The 51-year-old owner of a ship supply company modified a small wooden house that he’d built yearsearlier for daughter Abbie’s toy horses, and made a door of glass. After adding the library’s final touches (装点), the family hung a signboard on the front, instructing users to “take a book, return a book,”and making the Henriksen library, now one of several hundred like it nationwide and among more than 2,500 in the world, the only Little Free Library in Palm Beach County. They stocked it with 20 or so books they’d already read, a mix of science fiction, reference titles, novels and kids’ favorites. “I told them, keep in mind that you might not see it again,” said Janey, a stay-at-home mom.Since then, the collection keeps replenishing (补充) itself, thanks to ongoing donations from borrowers. The library now gets an average of five visits a day. The project’s best payoff, says Peter, are the thank-you notes left behind. “We had no idea in the beginning that it would be so popular.” (317 words)66. In what way is the library “pedestrian-friendly”?A. It owns a yellow roof.B. It stands near a sidewalk.C. It protects book lovers from the sun.D. It usespalm-tree stickers as decorations.67. Janey got the idea to build a library from __________.A. a visit to Brian WilliamsB. a spring break with her familyC. a book sent by one of her neighborsD. a report ona Wisconsin-based organization68. It was made by a user of the library.B. It marked a final touch to the library.C. It aimed at making the library last long.D. It indicated the library was a family property.70. The passage tells us that the users __________.A. donate books to the libraryB. get paid to collect books for the libraryC. receive thank-you notes for using the libraryD. visit the library over 5 times on average daily Part IV Writing (45 marks)Section A (10 marks)Directions: Read the following passage. Fill in the numbered blanks by using the information from the passage.Write NO MORE THAN THREE WORDS for each answer. While there is no widely accepted definition of MOOCs, their key features are open access:they are currently free to participants, no entry qualifications are required, they support an unlimited number of participants and as yet, very few include any form of accreditation (认证).Currently offered by some famous universities, MOOCs are attractive to people who do not have the financial resources to meet the growing costs of university education, or who do not have formal qualifications. They also allow participants to study at their own pace. The potential for MOOCs to deliver education is obviously vast—they could be considered as a huge step forwards in widening participation. They also have the potential to provide a unique window on universities that offer popular and valuable courses, they may attract some participants to register for formalfee-paying programmes at the same or other universities and are likely to promote new ways of on-line education. However, it is still very early days for MOOCs. The quality of the education provision is highly variable, with many courses offering only recordings of lectures, and delivery is particularly difficult in some special fields that require practical classes, research projects or extensive library access. Besides, wider engagement with participants requires very considerable resource. Even limited feedback or examination becomes a major task if there are several thousand students in the class.Considering the challenges, some people argue MOOCs will soon evaporate (蒸发). But they certainly provide good opportunity for widening higher education, are a means of raising awareness of universities to audiences of tens or hundreds of thousands, and are well worthy of serious consideration. (271 words)Section B (10 marks)Directions: Read the following passage. Answer the questions according to the information given in the passage.“Let’s Talk”:The Free Advice ProjectA few weeks ago, I took a walk around Washington Square Park. I met all the usual people:street performers, the Pigeon Guy, a group of guitarists singing in harmony. But off to the side, sitting on a bench was a woman doing something vastly different—giving free advice.A week or two later, I set up an interview with her and we discussed her project at length.Lisa Podell, 32, started the Free Advice Project this past May. It began as an experiment;she sat in Washington Square Park for a day with a sign that read “Free Advice” as a simple way to reach out to people. Podell was astonished at the strong response.Podell admits that she was doubtful at first, but now she describes the project as mutually (相互地) beneficial. People learn from her—but she also learns from them. She says that the majority of those who come to her are dealing with some pretty heavy issues, and they expect her not only to listen, but also provide real answers.Having worked as a full time teacher and now as an adolescent advisor, Podell believes that talkingthings out is an important in the decision-making process.Sometimes, people walk around all day, keeping their problems in their own head and thinking about them in the same way. Podell simply strives to provide people with perspective.I asked if there is a future plan for the Free Advice Project. Podell said she would like to promote it to each public space in New York, which would be carried out by various volunteers across the city.It was truly inspiring to meet someone with such a big heart, especially in New York—where it is sometimes very hard to find anybody to listen. 2013高考英语全国卷作文English:In 2013, the topic of the national college entrance examination English composition was "The Power of Dreams". In my opinion, dreams are incredibly powerful as they give people something to strive for, to work towards, and to achieve. Without dreams, life would lose its spark and motivation. On a personal level, dreams have pushed me to work hard in school, pursue my passions, and set ambitious goals for myself. Dreams have the power to inspire and drive individuals to reach their full potential. Moreover, dreams can also bring people together, as they often share a common vision and passion. The power of dreams can be seen in history and society, as many great achievements and advancements have stemmed from someone's dream to make the world a better place. 2013湖南英语作文With the rapid development of technology, the landscape of education has been transformed dramatically. In Hunan Province, this transformation has been particularly noticeable, as educators and students alike have embraced the digital age. This essay will explore the impact of technology on education in Hunan, focusing on how it has changed teaching methods, student engagement, and the overall learning experience.Firstly, the integration of technology into the classroom has revolutionized teaching methods. Teachers in Hunan are now able to utilize multimedia tools such as interactive whiteboards and educational software to deliver lessons in a more engaging and dynamic way. For instance, instead of relying solely on textbooks and lectures, teachers can use videos, online quizzes, and digital presentations to cater to different learning styles and keep students interested.Secondly, student engagement has been significantly enhanced through the use of technology. Social media and online forums have provided platforms for students to discuss class materials, collaborate on projects, and share ideas beyond the classroom. This has not only fostered a sense of community among students but also promoted peer learning, which is a powerful tool for reinforcing and expanding knowledge. Moreover, the advent of online learning platforms has made education more accessible. Students in remote areas of Hunan can now access a wealth of educational resources and even attend virtual classes, breaking down geographical barriers and ensuring that quality education is available to all, regardless of location. However, it is important to acknowledge the challenges that come with the integration of technology in education. Issues such as the digital divide, where some students may not have access to the necessary devices or internet connectivity, can exacerbate existing inequalities. Additionally, the over-reliance on technology can sometimes lead to a decrease in face-to-face interaction and critical thinking skills. In conclusion, the impact of technology on education in Hunan Province has been profound, offering both opportunities and challenges. As we continue to navigate the digital age, it is crucial for educators, policymakers, and students to work together to harness the potential of technology to enhance learning while addressing the issues that arise. The future of education in Hunan, as in the rest of the world, will undoubtedly be shaped by our ability to adapt and innovate in this ever-evolving technological landscape.。

At last the result is: the winner is Cass Two,and we were the loser. We didn’t win the match, but we didn’t lose heart. One the one hand, we think that friendship comes first, and match comes second. On the other hand, since we all tried our best, we had no regret. In our life we may meet many failures, aslong as we try our best, there’s no need feeling regret for these failures. What’ more, we should analyze the reasons of failure to get success for the nexttime. In a word, success is important, so is failure, because it’s the mother ofsuccess。

However, I felt very sorry for my partner, because as a loser , he would face great pressure②.But as a matter of fact, I should thank my partner. On one hand, if h e hadn’t lost the match, I would have won the match③. It was his fa ilure that contributed to my success. ④ On the other hand, I have le rant much from my partner too, because I took lessons from his failur e so that I successfully avoided the mistakes⑤. Otherwise I might ma ke it too. Therefore, when participating in a match, we should not attach too mu ch importance to the result, but on the experience and lessons⑥.Last week, I participated in a table tennis match held by our city fo r the students from high schools. I got to know Dorothy in the early 1980s, when I was teaching Early Childhood Development through a program with Union College in Barbourville, Kentucky. The jog responsibilities required occasional visits to the classroom of each teacher in the program. Dorothy stands out in my memory as one who ―bloomed‖ in her remote area.Dorothy taught in a school in Harlan County, Kentucky, AppalachianMountain area. To get to her school from the town of Harlan, I followed a road winding around the mountain to the eight-mile journey. I crossed the same railroad track five times, giving the possibility of getting caught by the same train five times. Rather than feeling excited by this drive through the mountains, I found it depressing. The poverty level was shocking and the small shabby houses gave me the greatest feeling of hopelessness. From the moment of my arrival at the little school, all gloom (忧郁) disappeared. Upon arriving at Dorothy’s classroom, I was greeted with smiling faces and treated like a queen. The children had been prepared to show me their latest projects. Dorothy told me with a big smile that they were serving poke greens salad and cornbread for ―dinner‖(lunch). In case you don’t know, poke greens are a weed-type plant that grows wild, especially on poor ground.Dorothy never ran out of reports of exciting activities of her students. Her enthusiasm never cooled down. When it came time to sit for the testing and interviewing required to receive her Child Development Associate Certification, Dorothy was ready. She came to the assessment and passed in all areas. Afterwards, she invited me to the one-and-only steak house in the area to celebrate her victory, as if she had received her Ph. D degree. After the meal, she placed a little box containing an old pen in my hand. She said it was a family heirloom(传家宝), but to me it is a treasured symbol of appreciation and pride that cannot be matched with things.61. ―Early Childhood Development‖ in Paragraph 1 refers to ______.A. a program directed by DorothyB. a course given by authorC. an activity held by the studentsD. an organization sponsored by Union College62. Upon arriving at the classroom, the author was cheered up by ____.A. a warm welcomeB. the sight of poke greensC. Dorothy’s latest projectsD. a big dinner made for her64. What can we know about Dorothy from the last paragraph?A. She was invited to a celebration at a restaurant.B. She got a pen as a gift from the author.C. She passed the required assessment.D. She received her Ph. D. degree.65. What does the author mainly intend to tell us?A. Whatever you do, you must do it carefully.B. Whoever you are, you deserve equal treatment.C. However poor you are, you have the right to education.D. Wherever you are, you can accomplish your achievement.CIt’s such a happy-looking library, painted yellow, decorated with palm-tree stickers and sheltered from the Florida sun by its own roof. About the size of a microwave oven, it’s pedestrian-friendly, too, waiting for book loves next to a sidewalk in Palm Beach Country Estates, along the northern boundary of Palm Beach Gardens. It’s a library built with love.A year ago, shortly after Janey Henriksen saw a Brian Williams report about the Little Free library organization, a Wisconsin-based nonprofit that aims to promote literacy and build a sense of community in a sense of community in a neighborhood by making books freely available, she announced to her family of four, ―That’s what we’re going to do for our spring break!‖Son Austin, now a 10th-grader, didn’t see the point of building a library that resembles a mailbox. But Janey insisted, and husband Peter unwillingly got to work. The 51-year-old owner of a ship supply company modified a small wooden house that he’d built years earlier for daughter Abbie’s toy horses, and made a door of glass. After adding the library’s final touches(装点), the family hung a signboard on the front, instructing users to ―take a book, return a book,‖ and making the Henriksen library, now one of several hundred like it nationwide and among more than 2,500 in the world, the only Little Free Library in Palm Beach County. The stocked it with 20 or so books they’d already read, a mix of science fiction, reference titles, novels and kid s’ favorites. ―I told them, keep in mind that you might not see it again,‖ said Janey, a stay-at-home mom.Since then, the collection keeps replenishing (补充) itself, thanks to ongoing donations from borrowers. The library now gets an average of five visits a day.The project’s best payoff, says Peter, are the thank-you notes left behind. ―We had no idea in the beginning that it would be so popular.‖66. In what way is the library ―pedestrian-friendly‖?A. It owns a yellow roof.B. It stands near a sidewalk.C. It protects book lovers from the sun.D. It uses palm-tree stickers decorations.67. Janey got the idea to build a library from _____.A. a visit to Brian WilliamsB. a spring break with her familyC. a book sent by one of her neighborsD. a report on a Wisconsin-based organization68. The library was built _____.A. by a ship supply companyB. on the basis of toy horsesC. like a mailboxD. with glass69. What can we infer about the signboard?A. It was made by a user of the library.B. It marked a final touch to the library.C. It aimed at making the library last long.D. It indicates the library was a family property.70. The passage tells us that the users _____.A. donate books to the libraryB. get paid to collect books for the libraryC. receive thank-you notes for using the libraryD. visit the library over 5 times on average dailyPart IV Writing (45 marks)Section A (10 marks)Directions: Read the following passage. Fill in the numbered blanks by using the information from the passage.Write NO MORE THAN THREE WORDS fro each answer. While there is no widely accepted definition of MOOCs, their key features are open access: they are currently free to participants, no entry qualifications are required, they support an unlimited number of participants and as yet , very few include any form of accreditation (认证).Currently offered by some famous universities, MOOCs are attractive to people who do not have financial resources to meet the growing costs of university education, or who do not have formal qualifications. They also allow participants to study at their own pace. The potential for MOOCs to deliver education is obviously vast – they could be considered as a huge step forwards in widening participation. They also have the potential to provide a unique window on universities that offer popular and valuable courses; they may attract some participants to register for formal fee-paying programmes at the same or other universities and are likely to promote new ways of on-line education. However, it is still very early days for MOOCs. The quality of the education provision is highly variable, with many courses offering only recording of lectures, and delivery is particularly difficult in some special fields that require practical classes, research projects or extensive library access. Besides, wider engagement with participants requires very considerable courses. Even limited feedback or examination becomes a major task if there are several thousand students in the class.Considering the challenges, some people argue MOOCs will soonevaporate (蒸发). But they certainly provide good opportunity for widening higher education, are a means of raising awareness of universities to audiences of tens or hundreds of thousands, and are well worthy of serous consideration.Section B (10 marks)Directions: Read the following passage. Answer the questions according to the information given in the passage.―Let’s Talk‖: The Free Advice ProjectA few weeks ago, I took a walk around Washington Square Park, I met all the usual people: street performers, the Pigeon Guy, a group of guitarists singing in harmony. But off to the side, sitting on a bench was a woman doing something vastly different – giving free advice.A week or two later, I set up an interview with her and we discussed her projects at length.Lisa Podell, 32, started the Free Advice Project this past May. It began as an experiment; she sat in Washington Square Park for a day with a sign that read ―Free Advice‖as a simple way to reach out to people. Podell was astonished at the strong response.Podell admits that she was doubtful at first, but now she describes the project as mutually (相互地) beneficial. People learn from her – but she also learns from them. She says that the majority of those who come to her re dealing with some pretty heavy issues and they expect her not only to listen, but also to provide real answers.Having worked as a full-time teacher and now as an adolescent advisor, Podell believes that talking things out is important in the decision-making process.Sometimes, people walk around all day, keeping their problems in their own head and thiniing about them in the same way. Podell simply tries to provide people with perspective.I asked if there is a future plan for the Free Advice Project, Podell said she would like to promote it to each public space in New York, which would be carried out by various volunteers across the city.It was truly inspiring to meet someone with such a big heart, especially in New York – where it is sometimes very hard to find anybody to listen. 81. In what way was Podell different from other people in the park?(No more than 6 words) (2 marks)82. What do people in need expect Podell to do?(No more than 10 words) (3 marks)83. According to Podell, what should people do when making decisions?(No more than 6 words) (2 marks)84. How would Podell promote her project in New York?(No more than 15 words) (3 marks) Section C (25 marks)Directions: Write and English composition according to the instructions given below.

[范文展示]Last week, a football match was held between we Class One and Class two.The players from both sides are all excellent football players, so the match went on fiercely at first. At last the result is: the winner is Class Two, and we were the loser. We didn't win the match, but we didn't lose heart. On the one hand, we think that friendship comes first, and a match comes second. On the other hand, since we all tried out best, we had no regret. In our life we may meet many failures, as long as we try our best, there is no need feeling regretful for these failures. What's more, we should analyze the reasons of the failures to get success for the next time.In a word, success is important, and so is failure, because it's the mother of success.[范文点评]这是参考答案提供的范文。

Afterward, she invited me to the one-and-only steak house in the area to celebrate her victory, as if she had received her Ph. D. degree. After the meal, she placed a little box containing an old pen in my hand. The 51-year-old owner of a ship supply company modified a small wooden house that he’d built years earlier for daughter Abbie’s toy horses, and made a door of glass. After adding the library’s final touches (装点), the family hung a signboard on the front, instructing users to “take a book, return a book,” and making the Henriksen library, now one of several hundred like it nationwide and among more than 2,500 in the world, the only Little Free Library in Palm Beach County. The library now gets an average of five visits a day.The project’s best payoff, says Peter, are the thank-you notes left behind. “We had no idea in the beginning that it would be so popular.”(317 words)66. They also allow participants to study at their own pace. The potential for MOOCs to deliver education is obviously vast—they could be considered as a huge step forwards in widening participation. They also have the potential to provide a unique window on universities that offer popular and valuable courses, they may attract some participants to register for formal fee-paying programmes at the same or other universities and are likely to promote new ways of on-line education. She says that the majority of those who come to her are dealing with some pretty heavy issues, and they expect her not only to listen, but also provide real answers.Having worked as a full time teacher and now as an adolescent advisor, Podell believes that talking things out is an important in the decision-making process.Sometimes, people walk around all day, keeping their problems in their own head and thinking about them in the same way. 2013全国卷英语作文

2013全国卷英语作文

2013全国卷英语作文With the advent of the internet, the landscape of education has been revolutionized. The year 2013 marked a significant milestone in the integration of the internet into educational systems across the country. In this essay, I will explore the various ways in which the internet has impacted education and the implications of these changes.Firstly, the internet has provided access to a wealth of information that was previously unavailable to students. Online encyclopedias, educational videos, and digitallibraries have become invaluable resources for learners. This easy access to information has not only broadened students' knowledge base but also facilitated research and learning beyond the confines of traditional textbooks.Secondly, the rise of online courses and e-learning platforms has made education more flexible and accessible. Students can now enroll in courses from prestigious institutions from the comfort of their homes, without the need to relocate or attend classes in person. This has been particularly beneficial for those who may have work or family commitments that make attending regular classes challenging. Moreover, the internet has facilitated communication and collaboration among students and educators. Tools such as email, discussion forums, and video conferencing have made it easier for students to engage with their peers and teachers, share ideas, and work on group projects. This has fostered a more interactive and collaborative learning environment. However, the internet has also presented some challenges to the educational system. One of the main concerns is the issue of information overload. With so much information available at their fingertips, students may struggle to discerncredible sources from unreliable ones. Additionally, the digital divide remains a problem, with students in rural or low-income areas having limited access to the internet and the resources it offers. In conclusion, the internet has had a profound impact on education in 2013 and continues to shape how we learn and teach. While it has opened up new opportunities for learners and educators alike, it is essential to address the challenges it presents to ensure that the benefits of online education are accessible to all. As we move forward, it is crucial to continue adapting our educational practices to harness the full potential of the internet while mitigating its drawbacks.。

that is what i learned from a basketball match.满分作文no.1it is inevitable that we may face match during our life. but from where i stand, no matter what the result will be, the most important thing is to enjoy the process.i once took part in a match held by a tv show. in order to win a prize, i practiced my singing skills everyday and my parents both spared no efforts to help me. upon hearing the news that i didn’t win any prize after the match. i burst into tears, thinkin g i was a total fool. to my surprise, my mom told me that she wasso proud of me that i dared to perform on a stage alone. what she did impress me a lot: you are the winner yourself.as far as i am concerned, maybe sometimes we can be a loser when compared to others, but as long as we put our heart into the task, we are sure that we are the winner. it is the process of the match, not the result that shapes us into stronger people.满分作文no.2as the college entrance examination was around the corner, our teachers putforward the advice that students spare some time to have a basketball match to release stress.with teachers and students cheering around the court, the players were, somehow, in tension. upon getting the ball, the players were chasing each other to score for themselves. all of a sudden, one player of our class tripped over and fell down, breaking his knee. it was such a great pain as to make him hard to get up. however, another player came and gave him a hand, encouraging him. finally the exciting match ended up with a tie, about which all of us felt pleased. nobody is the winner.on a personal note, i hold the view that we should not think the winning position so important that we get it by 不择手段), or we will fall into abyss of chasing winner. therefore, the result concerning who is the winner or loser doesn’t matterr. it was the touching help received from each other that is really of great importance.满分作文no.3generally, those who get a bad result in a match, in people’s opinion, are thelosers. however, as for me, we can be winners even if we lose the match in that there are something more significant than the result.last year, my best friend along with me participated in a running game. webelieved that we wouldn’t be beaten by anyon e as both of us are good at running. so eager were we to become the number one that we were not as close as before. idecided to beat him and i was sure i would make it. unfortunately, i didn’t feel well on that day and was too sick to run. therefore, i fell down during the match andcouldn’t stand myself. upon seeing my terrible situation, my best friend ran back to support me and sent me to the hospital. both of us lost the game.but i don’t think we are losers because we found our friendship is moreimportant than the result. we are winners of our friendship. from this experience, i know what people should pay attention to is not the result but what they have learnt.满分作文no. 4enjoy the processonce there is a winner, there will be a loser-such is the resultof almost everymatch. too often, we can’t decide the result, but it is the process that we participants can enjoy exactly.i once took part in a speech contest, which i viewed very important. devoted to the preparation, i watched various famous videos and spoke in front of the wholeclass several times. however, i finally didn’t become the winner. but i never thought of myself as a loser, for i did putmy heart into it and the result was sort of less important. instead, the process was what i really enjoyed.life is like a I got to know Dorothy in the early 1980s, when I was teaching Early Childhood Development through a program with Union College in Barbourville, Kentucky. Upon arriving at Dorothy‟s classroom. I was greeted with smiling faces and treated like a queen. The children had been prepared to show me their latest projects. In case you don‟t know, poke greens are a weed-type plant that grows wild, especially on poor ground.Dorothy never ran out of reports of exciting activities of her students. Her enthusiasm never cooled down. When it came time to sit for the testing and interviewing required to receive her Child Development Associate Certification, Dorothy was ready. She came to the assessment and passed in all areas. Afterward, she invited me to the one-and-only steak house in the area to celebrate her victory, as if she had received her Ph. D. degree. After the meal, she placed a little box containing an old pen in my hand. About the size of a microwave oven, it‟s pedestrian-friendly, too, waiting for book lovers next to a sidewalk in Palm Beach country Estates, along the northern boundary of Palm Beach Gardens. It‟s a library built with love.A year ago, shortly after Janey Henriksen saw a Brian Williams report about the Little Free Library organization, a Wisconsin-based nonprofit that aims to promote literacy and build a sense of community in a neighborhood by making books freely available, she announced to her family of four, “That‟s what we‟re going to do for our spring break!”Son Austin, now a 10th-grader, didn‟t see the point of building a library that resembles a mailbox. But Janey insisted, and husband Peter unwillingly got to work. The 51-year-old owner of a ship supply company modified a small wooden house that he‟d built years earlier for daughter Abbie‟s toy horses, and made a door of glass. After adding the library‟s final touches (装点), the family hung a signboard on the front, instructing users to “take a book, return a book,” and making the Henriksen library, now one of several hundred like it nationwide and among more than 2,500 in the world, the only Little Free Library in Palm Beach County. They stocked it with 20 or so books they‟d already read, a mix of science fiction, reference titles, novels and kids‟ favorites. “I told them, keep in mind that you might not see it again,” said Janey, a stay-at-home mom.Since then, the collection keeps replenishing (补充) itself, thanks to ongoing donations from borrowers. The library now gets an average of five visits a day.The project‟s best payoff, says Peter, are the thank-you notes left behind. “We had no idea in the beginning that it would be so popular.”(317 words)66.In what way is the library “pedestrian-friendly”?A.
