--a reflection of America's capitalist society • Hotel is a novel written by Arthur Hailey in 1965.It described a luxury hotel in New Orleans, because of the boss Warren Trent's conformism, poor management,he was in debt, and was forced to sell his hotel.

Arthur Hailey (April 5, 1920 – November 24, 2004)
• A British/Canadian novelist. • Born in Luton(卢顿), England and was educated in English schools until age 14. • Served in the Royal Air Force from the start of the World War II in 1939. • Went to live in Canada in 1947 and then became a Canadian citizen. • Became a full-time writer in 1956, encouraged by the success of the CBC television drama——Flight into Danger 《 险中行》(which later became a movie and a novel, Runway Zero Eight).
• Through the description of the hotel,it reflects all sorts of malpractices(不法行为)of the society and American capitalist evils: giant hotel predatory, detective personnel extortion(勒索), hotel staff 's embezzlement (贪污)and theft, black racial discrimination... All this can be said to be corrupt and an epitome(缩影) of American capitalist society. • The novel was adapted into a movie in 1967, and later into a television series.
