(阅读理解题)The comfort zone is our living, work, and social environments that we have grown accustomed to. It determines the type of friends we make or people we associate with. It determines a life style we accept or reject.Young people are very adaptable; they can adjust to changing comfort zones with ease. They can socialize with homeless people in the morning and be equally at ease at a formal banquet in the evening. As we age, the ability to adapt towide-ranging comfort zones becomes more difficult. Social prejudice narrows the comfort zone range. The comfort zone can be a decision making tool.Comfort zones are directly related to our dreams or goals, which is associated with self-fulfilling prophecy(预言). In order to grow and change, we must first be discontent with our current comfort zone. We must realize that all meaningful and lasting changes occur first in daydreaming and then they work their way into reality. The more clearly and vividly we fantasize our dream, the stronger and more real the pictures on the subconscious level will become. Once our subconscious accepts thisimage and its expectation, it will go to work, searching for a way to bring it into reality. If we feel that these things are too good for us, we will find ways to fail. If, however, we intentionally imagine the change we want, build an expectation of the change mentally and emotionally, and we will find ways to acquire dream and, when mentally ready, it will arrive faster than we ever thought possible. For some people, problems, suffering, poverty, bad breaks are their comfort zone. They find comfort in finding fault and complaining about their misfortune. The same is true for businesses. Management and workers have grown used to seeing things go wrong and expect them too. Management finds comfort in finding fault with workers and workers and vice versa.Note: If the comfort zone we are seeking is beyond our current income, then, we need to develop a service that has greater value than our current one. Money, power and influence are not goals; they are rewards ONLY for personal achievement.(1). (单选题) As one grows older, ______. (阅读理解题)Shyness is the cause of much unhappiness for a great many people. Shy people are anxious and self-conscious; that is, they are excessively concerned with their own appearance and actions. Worrisome thoughts are constantly occurring in their minds: What kind of impression am I making? Do they like me? Do I sound stupid? Am I wearing unattractive clothes? It is obvious that such uncomfortable feeling must negatively affect people. A person’s conception of himself o r herself is reflected in the way he or she behaves, and the way a person behaves affects other people’s reactions. In general, the way people think about themselves has a profound effect on all areas of their lives.Shy people, having low self-esteem, are likely to be passive and easily influenced by others. They need reassurance that they are doing “the right thing.” Shy people are very sensitive to criticism: they feel it confirms their feelings of inferiority. They also find it difficult to be pleased by compliment with a statement like this one: “You’re just saying that to make me feel good. I know it’s not true.” It is clear that, while self-awareness is a healthy quality, overdoing it is harmful. Can shyness be completely eliminated, or at least reduced? Fortunately, people can overcome shyness with determined and patient efforts in buildingself-confidence. Since shyness goes hand in hand with a lack of self-esteem, it is important for people to accept their weakness as well as their strengths. Each one of us is a unique, worthwhile individual, interested in our own personal ways. The better we understand ourselves, the easier it becomes to live up to our full potential. Let’s not allow shyness to block our chances for a rich and fulfilling life.(1). (单选题) What does the author try to prove by citing “what kind of impression am I making?” in Para.1?(本题3.0分)A、Shy people benefit from their caring about their appearance.B、People’s shyness made them care too much about their appearance and actions.C、It’s natural that shy people don’t believe other’s compliments.D、Shy people think they are different from others.学生答案: B解析:得分: 3(2). So it makes sense that the elderly should be routinely screened for new tumors —or doesn’t it?While such vigilant(警觉的)tracking of cancer is a good thing in general, researchers are increasingly questioning whether all of this testing is necessary for the elderly. With the percentage of people over age 65 expected to nearly double by 2050, it’s important to weigh the health benefits of screening against the risks and costs of routine testing. In many cases, screening can lead to additional biopsies and surgeries to remove cancer, which can cause side effects, while the cancers themselves may be slow-growing and may not pose serious health problems in patients’ remaining years. But the message that everyone must screen for cancer has become so ingrained that when health care experts recommended that women under 50 and over 74 stop screening for breast cancer, it caused a riotous reaction among doctors, patients and advocacy groups. It’s hard to uproot deeply held beliefs about cancer screening with scientific data. Certainly, there are people over age 75 who have had cancers detected by routine screening, and gained several extra years of life because of treatment. And clearly, people over age 75 who have other risk factors for cancer, such as a family history or prior personal experience with the disease, should continue to get screened regularly. But for the remainder, the risk of cancer, while increased at the end of life, must be balanced with other factors like remaining life expectancy(预期寿命).A recent study suggests that doctors start to make more objective decisions about who will truly benefit from screening- especially considering the explosion of the elderly that will soon swell our population. It’s not an easy calculation to make, but one that make sense for the whole patie nt. Dr. Otis Brawley said, “Many doctors are ordering these tests purely to cover themselves. We need to think about the rational use of health care and stop talking about the rationing of health care.” That means making some difficult decisions with elderly patients, and going against the misguided belief that when it comes to health care, more is always better.121.Why do doctors recommend routine cancer screening for elderly people?()A. It is believed to contribute to long life.B. It is part of their health care package.C. The elderly are more sensitive about their health.D. The elderly are in greater danger of tumor growth.答案: D2.How do some researchers now look at routine cancer screening for the elderly?()A. It adds too much to their medical bills.B. It helps increase their life expectancy.C. They are doubtful about necessity.D. They think it does more than good.答案: C3.What is the conventional view about women screening for breast cancer?()A. It applies to women over 50.B. It is a must for adult women.C. It is optional for young women.D. It doesn’t apply to women over 74.答案: B4.Why do many doctors prescribe routine screening for cancer?()A. They want to protect themselves against medical disputes.B. They want to take advantage of the medical care system.C. They want data for medical research.D. They want their patients to suffer less.答案: A5.What does the author say is the general view about health care? ()A. The more, the better.B. Prevention is better than cure.C. Better early than late.13D. Better care, longer life.答案: APassage 4Several recent studies have found that being randomly (随机地) assigned to a roommate of another race can lead to increased tolerance but also to a greater likelihood (可能性)of conflict.Recent reports found that lodging with a student of a different race may decrease prejudice and compel students to engage in more ethnically diverse friendships. An Ohio State University study also found that black students living with a white roommate saw higher academic success throughout their college careers. Researchers believe this may be caused by social pressure. In a New York Times article, Sam Boakye – the only black student on his freshman year floor -said that "if you're surrounded by whites, you have something to prove."Researchers also observed problems resulting from pairing interracial students in residences. According to two recent studies, randomly assigned roommates of different races are more likely to experience conflicts so strained that one roommate will move out. An Indiana University study found that interracial roommates were three times as likely as two white roommates to no longer live together by the end of the semester. Grace Kao, a professor at Penn said she was not surprised by the findings. "This may be the first time that some of these students have interacted, and lived, with someone of a different race," she said. At Penn, students are not asked to indicate race when applying for housing. "One of the great things about freshman housing is that, with some exceptions, the process throws you together randomly," said Undergraduate Assembly chairman Alec Webley. "This is the definition of integration." "I've experienced roommate conflicts between interracial students that have both broken down stereotypes and reinforced stereotypes," said one Penn resident advisor (RA). The RA of two years added that while some conflicts "provided more multicultural acceptance and melding (融合)," there were also "jarring cultural confrontations." The RA said that these conflicts have also occurred among roommates of the same race. Kao said she cautions against forming any generalizations based on any one of the studies, noting that more background characteristics of the students need to be studied and explained.1.What can we learn from some recent studies? ()A. Conflicts between students of different races are unavoidable.B. Students of different races are prejudiced against each other.C. Interracial lodging does more harm than good.D. Interracial lodging may have diverse outcomes.答案: D2.What does Sam Boakye's remark mean? ()14A. White students tend to look down upon their black peers.B. Black students can compete with their white peers academically.C. Black students feel somewhat embarrassed among white peers during the freshman year.D. Being surrounded by white peers motivates a black student to work harder to succeed.答案: D3.What does the Indiana University study show? ()A. Interracial roommates are more likely to fall out.B. Few white students like sharing a room with a black peer.C. Roommates of different races just don't get along.D. Assigning students' lodging randomly is not a good policy.答案: A4.What does Alec Webley consider to be the "definition of integration"? ()A. Students of different races are required to share a room.B. Interracial lodging is arranged by the school for freshmen.C. Lodging is assigned to students of different races without exception.D. The school randomly assigns roommates without regard to race.答案: D5.What does Grace Kao say about interracial lodging? ()A. It is unscientific to make generalizations about it without further study.B. Schools should be cautious when making decisions about student lodging.C. Students' racial background should be considered before lodging is assigned.D. Experienced resident advisors should be assigned to handle the problems.答案: APart IV Writing (共15分)Directions: For this part, write a short essay on the topic of Online Shopping. Compare yourself to the following list to determine whether or notonline classes are a good fit for your personality and habits. 1. Successful distance learners do just as well, if not better, without people looking over their shoulder. While some people need teachers to keep them motivated and on-task, distancelearners are able to motivate themselves. They realize that they will never be face-to-face with the people who give them assignments and grade their work, but theydon ’ t need others to encourage them. The most successful students are self-motivated and set their own goals. 2. Successful distance learners never (or atleast rarely) put off their assignments or wait until the last moment to write theirpapers. These students enjoy the freedom of working at their own pace andappreciate the ability to complete their work in as much time as it takes them, instead of waiting for an entire class. However, they understand that putting offtheir work too often can end up adding months, if not years, to their studies. 3. Successful distance learners have good reading comprehension skills. While mostpeople learn by listening to lectures and taking notes, the majority of distancelearners are expected to master material through reading alone. Although somedistance learning courses offer video recordings and audio clips, most programsrequire that students understand a large amount of information that is onlyavailable through written text. These students are able to comprehend texts at thecollege level without the direct guidance of a teacher. 4. Successful distancelearners can resist constant distractions. Whether it’s the phone ringing off thehook, the kids screaming in the kitchen, or the temptation of TV programs, everyone faces distractions. Successful students know how to filter out theconstant disturbances that threaten their progress. They feel comfortable turningdown an invitation or letting the machine pick up the phone when they knowthere is work to be done. (本题10分)1. This isthe research finding of a team of Japanese doctors, who say that most of ourbrains are not getting enough exercise-and as a result, we are ageing unnecessarily soon. Professor Taiju Matsuzawa wanted to find out why otherwise healthy farmers in northern Japan appeared to be losing their ability to think and reason at a relatively early age, and how the process of ageing could be slowed down. With a team of colleagues at Tokyo National University, he set about measuring brain volumes of a thousand people of different ages and varying occupations. Computer technology enabled the researchers to obtain precise measurements of the volume of the front and side sections of the brain, whichrelate to intellect and emotion, and determine the human character. (The rear section of the brain, which controls functions like eating and breathing, does not contract with age, and one can continue living without intellectual or emotional faculties.) Contraction of front and side parts was observed in some subjects intheir thirties, but it was still not evident in some sixty-and-seventy-year-olds. Matsuzawa concluded from his tests that there is a simple remedy to the contraction normally associated with age-using the head. The findings show in general terms that contraction of the brain begins sooner in people in the country than in the towns. Those least at risk, says Matsuzawa, are lawyers, followed by university professors and doctors. White collar workers doing routine work ingovernment offices are, however, as likely to have shrinking brains as the farmworker, bus driver and shop assistant. Matsuzawa’ s findings show that thinkingcan prevent the brain from shrinking. Blood must circulate properly in the head tosupply the fresh oxygen the brain cells need.“The best way to maintain goodblood circulation is through using the brain,” he says.“ Think hard and engagein conversation. Don’ t rely on pocket calculators.” (本题10分)1. ( 单项选择 )The team of doctors wanted to find out __________. Probably the first to use it were the Chinese, way back in the eleventh century B. C.We know that the umbrella was used in ancient Egypt and Babylon as a sun shade. And there was a strange thing connected with its use: it became a symbol of honor and authority. In the Far East in ancient times, the umbrella was allowed to be used only by royalty or by those in high offices. In Europe, the Greeks were the first to use umbrella as a sunshade. And the umbrella was in common use in ancient Greece. But it is believed that the first persons in Europe to use the umbrella as protection against the rain were the ancient Romans.During the Middle ages, the use of the umbrella practically disappeared. Then it appeared again in Italy in the late sixteenth century. And again it was considered a symbol of power and authority. By 1680, the umbrella appeared in France and later on in England.By the eighteenth century, the umbrella was used against rain throughout most of Europe. Umbrella have not changed much in style during all this time, though they have become much lighter in weight. It cannot be explained briefly, as is possible when describing drinking in many other countries. There are special laws to limit drinking, and Americans enjoy their own tastes.AlcoholAmerican laws concerning alcohol differ from state to state and city to city. In some towns, even states, alcohol is not allowed for sale at all except for the very weak 3.2 percent alcohol beer, known as “three-two” beer. Some places do not allow the sale of alcohol on Sundays, even in shops—you may find a bar with locks on its alcohol shelves. Other places permit alcohol to be sold on Sunday afternoons and evenings, but not on Sunday mornings. In many parts of America, you are not allowed to drink alcohol in a public place. That is, you may not sit in a park or walk along a street while drinking beer, and you cannot even take a nice bottle of wine on your picnic. And in many states you are not allowed to drink alcohol while driving, or even have an opened alcohol bottle in the car. Some bars have a license only for beer and wine. Others are also allowed to sell spirits (烈性酒) and, as Americans say, “mixed drinks”. Many bars have a period known as “happy hour”, often longer than an hour, when they sell drinks at lower-than-usual prices. This is usually around 5 p.m. and may be only on certain days of the week. The Legal Drinking AgeThe legal drinking age differs from place to place but is generally between 18 and 21. Some places permit the consumption of beer at 18 but spirits only at 21. Others permit the consumption only of “three-two” beer from 18 to 21. Young people therefore often drive from one place to another with more free drinking laws. In some parts of the US young people are allowed to vote, marry, raise children, keep full-time jobs, be tried in courts as adults, join the army and even buy guns—but NOT have a glass of beer. In some places people aged between 18 and 21 are allowed to go into bars but not allowed to drink.Another even more interesting aspect of American drinking age laws is that in some places people below legal drinking age are not even allowed to sell alcohol. Proof of Legal Drinking AgeIn most places these drinking laws are fairly rigidly kept. You may, for example, find people lining up to get into a bar and discover that the line is caused by a guard on the door who is asking everybody for identification. If you ask him why he wants to know who you are, he will inform you that he actually wants proof of how old you are. On such occasions Americans often show their driving licenses, which have their date of birth written on them.BeerAmerican beer, with very few exceptions, ranges from the average to the terrible. There are not many types of beer in the US—”light” and “dark” are two terms commonly used.It is therefore normal to order beer simply by brand names. In a restaurant, in fact, it is quite all right to order “a beer”, and they will tell you what they have.It is not necessary, either, to specify quantity when ordering beer. If it comes in bottles or cans, you will get a bottle or can, and if it’s “on tap”(可以随时取用的),you will get a glass, unless you order a “pitcher”(大酒罐). The latter is very convenient to serve, since you can then take the pitcher and glasses to your table and keep filling up without going back to the bar. It is harder, however, to know how much you have drunk. Some beer comes in bottles with taps that look as if they need an opener, but youcan, in fact, open them up by hand—though you have to be very careful not to hurt yourself. It is possible, in some stores and bars, to find a wide variety of beer from all over the world, especially Western Europe and Australia, and it is fun to try them. Cocktail (鸡尾酒)Cocktails and “mixed drinks” are much more popular and stronger in the US than in Europe, and visitors may not be familiar with some of the term. “On the rocks”, as you probably know, means with ice, while “straight up” or “up” means neat and without ice. There are hundreds of different cocktails, and there is no space here to list all the different names.WhiskeyIn America “whiskey” means bourbon unless otherwise indicated. Bourbon(波旁威士忌)is a rather oily spirit made from corn. Rye (黑麦) whiskey is called “rye” and Scotch whiskey “Scotch”.WineIn bars wine can often be bought by the glass. Don’t be misled by names. “Chablis” is used to refer to white wine, and “Burgundy” to red—Americans seem never to have heard of white Burgundy.21.( ) Limits on drinking in the US are the strictest in the world.22.( ) Alcohol in some states can be sold if they are not very strong.23.( ) In many states people are not allowed to drink alcohol while driving buttheycan keep opened alcohol bottles in the car.24.( ) The legal drinking age in the US is between 18 and 21.25.( ) Americans often show their driving licenses if asked for identification whenthey get into a bar.26.( ) You are requested to clarify how much you want when you order beer.27.( ) Many stores and bars offer a wide variety of beer from all over the world.28.If you say “straight up” when ordering cocktail in the US, you mean you wantit_____________29.In America, “whiskey” usually refers to a kind of oily spirit made from__________________.30.“Rye” is another name for _______________________________III. For each of them there are fourchoices marked A, B, C, and D. If we are to solve the nursing shortage, hospital administration and doctors everywhere would do well to follow Beth Israel’s example. At Beth Israel each patient is assigned to a primary nurse who visits at length with the patient and constructs a full-scale health account that covers everything from his medical history to his emotional state. Then she writes a care plan centered on the patient’s illness but which also includes everything else that is necessary. The primary nurse stays with the patient through the hospitalization, keeping track with his progress and seeking further advice from his doctor. If a patient at Beth Israel is not responding to treatment, it is not uncommon for his nurse to propose another approach to his doctor. What the doctor at Beth Israel has in the primary nurse is a true colleague.Nursing at Beth Israel also involves a decentralized(分散的) nursing administration. Every floor, every unit is a self-contained organization. There are nurse-managers instead of head nurses. In addition to their medical duties they do all their own hiring and dismissing, employee advising, and they make salary recommendations. Each unit’s nurses decide among themselves who will work what shifts and when.Beth Israel’s nurse-in-chief ranks as an equal with other vice presidents of the hospital. She is also a member of the Medical Executive Committee, which in most hospitals includes only doctors.31. Which of the following best characterizes the main feature of the nursing systemat Beth Israel Hospital?A. The doctor gets more active professional support from the primary nurse.B. Each patient is taken care of by a primary nurse day and night.C. The primary nurse writes care plans for every patient.D. The author’s attitude towards the nursing system at Beth Israel Hospitalis_________.A. negativeB. neutralC. criticalD. positiveQuestions 36 to 40 are based on the following passage. The quality of university life is declining under strain from the higher education, leading independent schools in Britain complaining. The warning followed survey of the impressions of campus life gained by students of school. Poor interviewing of theapplicants, infrequent contacts with tutors, worries over student safety, and even complaint over the food were all seen as symptoms of the pressure on universities. Head teachers said that standards could well drop if the squeeze on universities budgets continued. A survey was carried out because of fears that the level of green area in universities had declined. A great number of student suicides had raised concerns among head teachers.Although most of the 6,000 students surveyed were enjoying university life, almost a third were less than satisfied with their course. About one in ten had serious financial problems and some give alarming accounts of conditions around their halls of their residence. Incidents mentioned included a fatal stabbing and shooting outside a hall of residence, the petrol bombing of cars near another residence, and two racist attacks. Nine percent of women and seven percent of men rated security as unsatisfactory in the area where they lived. Stanford University had the lowest satisfaction rating. Lancaster and Kinston universities were rated the safest. The survey confirmed head teachers’ fears about contact between students and tutors slipping, with a quarter of the students seeing their tutors only every three weeks. New students, used to regular contact with their teachers, found it hard to adapt to the change. Interview techniques were a cause for concern, with the school calling for more training of the university staff involved in admissions. Some headmasters complained that interviews were increasingly “odd”. One greeted an applicant by throwing him an apple. Another interview lasted only three minutes. About a quarter of the students found the workload at university heavier than they had expected. Imperial College London, Oxford, and Cambridge universities registered by far the highest workload. There were differences between subjects, with architectures, engineering, veterinary science, medicine and some science subjects demanding the most work. Veterinary science was nevertheless the most popular subject, followed by physiotherapy and history of art. General engineering, economics, computing and sociology were the least popular. The survey also confirmed that previous concerns about possible racial prejudice in admissions to medical courses. Applicants with names suggesting an ethnic minority background had been rejected with qualificationsas good as successful white candidates.36. According to the passage, the main problem existing in the interview of admission is that _______.A. the interviewers often greeted the applicants by throwing an appleB. the interviewers spent only a few minutes interviewing an applicantC. the interviewers were not knowledgeable to interview the applicantsD. the interviewers lack enough training and interview techniques37. You should decide on the best choice and mark the corresponding letter on the Answer Sheet with a single line throughout the center.Passage 1Dr. McKinley: What is your specific area of concern regarding the current and future state of the environment?Leon Nacson: Air and water pollution are our Number One priorities. It is hard to understand that we are polluting the air we breathe and the water we drink. These are two elements that are not inexhaustible, and we must realize that once we reach the point of no return, there will be nothing left for future generations. Dr. McKinley: Mr. Desai, what an honor it is to have this opportunity to interview you. Can you please share your wisdom with our readers and tell us where you see the environmental crisis heading?Amrit Desai: We are not separate from the problem. We are the problem. We live divided lives. On one hand, we ask industries to support our greed for more and more conveniences, comfort and possessions. We have become addicted consumers, which causes industrial waste. At the same time, we ignore the connection between our demands and the exploitation of Mother Earth. When we are greedy for more than what we need for our well-being, we always abuse the resources of our body and the earth. We are nurtured by the healthy condition of Mother Earth. In humans, if the mother is ailing, the child suffers. We are the cause of the ailing planet and we are the victims.Dr. McKinley: In closing, I thank all of the participants. I have learned a great deal about what I can do as an individual to help the environment.I hope these interviews encourage the readers of Awareness Magazine to take action and develop your own strategy. Too many of us just sit back and say “I’ll let the experts deal with it.” Meanwhile, we are killing the planet. My aim of this interview is to show how one person can make a difference. Thanks to all for offering your wisdom.(1). Here are five ways which can protect ourselves when we travel.1. You are safer in a larger car.People in small cars are injured more often and more severely(剧烈的)than people traveling in large cars. Factories of small cars are building in more safety, which helps. But the mix of a large cars and small cars on the road is the main reason of the problem.2. Safety belts are necessary.Being thrown into glass and metal car parts or being thrown from the car can really do damage to you. That’s why safety belt should be worn. The safety belt’s main purpose is to pull you back if your car has a sudden crash with another vehicle or object or if it rolls over.A belt can reduce the chance of fatal (致命的)injury by 45 percent and the chance of serious injury by 50 percent.3. Air bags are important.More than half of all new cars sold have air bags. Air bags provide protection in frontal crashes—the type of crash that kills the most drivers when they are also wearing safety belts. More people are demanding air bags in the cars they buy. But the protection provided by air bags is limited in side or back crashes. Though they are effective, they can’t take the place of safety belts.4. A vehicle’s head rest is not for relaxing your head. The purpose of the head rest is to protect your neck and head if a car knocks you from behind. Without protection, your neck or your head can be badly hurt. Your head rest should be set so that it can fully support your head and neck in a crash.5. Drunk driving crashes are less likely to happen if you don’t drink.Drunk driving is the most serious problem. Many people have realized that mixing drinking and driving can lead to death or injury, prison time and other results. There are measures to strengthen penalties(罚款)for drinking and driving.(1). Today it is used to talk about various styles of music. In the early 1900s, however, jazz was a kind of folk music played by African Americans. This early jazz was played by people in their daily lives simply for their own enjoyment. Indeed, whenever people got together, jazz could be heard.Jazz was a mix of styles from Europe and Africa. From Europe, the first jazz musicians borrowed ideas about melody and harmony, and the instruments they used. From Africa, they borrowed ideas about rhythm. Jazz rhythm was very strong--it made people want to clap their hands or tap their feet. African rhythm had a different beat from most of other music. For example, instead of One-two-Three-four, the beat might be one-Two-three-Four. It was this rhythm that made jazz sound different. There was no other kind of music like it in the United States at that time.Today, jazz has become a way for many people to express themselves musically. It is also a way for many people to make a lot of money by performing. The audience for jazz is international. Many of the world's biggest jazz festivals now take place in Europe and Asia. Fans pay a lot of money to see one of their favorite musicians in concert or buy one of their recordings. It can certainly be said that jazz has influenced almost every other kind of music in the United States and Europe and produced some of the world's greatest musicians, composers and singers.(1). 21. (阅读理解题)Many people think that when they become rich and successful, happiness will naturally follow. Let me tell you that nothing is further from the truth. The world is full of very rich people who are as miserable as if they were living in hell. We have read stories about movie stars who committed suicide or died from drugs. Quite clearly, money is not the only answer to all problems. Wealth obtained through dishonest means does not bring happiness. Lottery winnings do not bring happiness. Gambling winnings do not bring happiness. To my mind, the secret to happiness lies in your successful work, in your contribution towards others’ happiness and in your wealth you have earned through your own honest effort. If you obtain wealth through luck or dishonest means, you will know that it is ill-earned money. If you get your money by taking advantage of others or by hurting others, you will not be happy with it. You will think you are a base person. Long-term happiness is based on honesty, productive work, contribution, and self-esteem. Happiness is not an end; it is a process. It is a continuous process of honest, productive work which makes a real contribution to others and makes you feel you are a useful, worthy person. As Dr. Wayne wrote, “There is no way to happiness. Happiness is the way.” There is no use saying “Someday when I achieve these goals, when I get a car, build a house and own my own business, then I will be really happy.” Life just does not work that way. If you wait for certain things to happen and depend on external circumstances of life to make you happy, you will always feel unfulfilled. There will always be something missing.
