Wild!We also went horseback riding through the desert which was fun but very dusty. The cowboy hats helped keep the sun off our faces at least. And we visited these ancient Native American ruins built into the side of a cliff by an old tribe. They must have been super good rock climbers!By far though, the best part of the whole trip was our adventure underground. We went on a tour of these crazy cool caves filled with stalagmites and stalactites and all kinds of incredible rock formations. It was like being on an alien planet!At one point, our guide turned off all the lights and it was the darkest darkness I have ever experienced. You literally could not see your hand in front of your face. It was both creepy and amazing at the same time. My mom didn't really bug me about anything since it was still pretty early in the break. She was like "Enjoy your freedom while you can!" I think she was just happy to have me out of her hair for a little while.After about a week though, I started to get a little bored and restless just sitting around the house all day. That's when my parents decided it was time for a family road trip! We loaded up the car and headed down to Florida to visit my grandparents and go to Disney World. Every morning, I wake up feeling excited to go to school and learn new things.My favorite subject is science because we get to do a lot of fun experiments. Last week, we made little volcanoes out of baking soda and vinegar. It was so cool to watch them erupt! Science class is never boring.I also really enjoy art class. We get to draw, paint, sculpt with clay - you name it! Recently, we learned about the famous artist Picasso and his unique cubism style of painting. I made my own cubism self-portrait and my mom hung it up on our fridge. She says I'm a little Picasso!Recess is definitely the highlight of my day though. My best friends Lucy and Olivia and I race over to the swing set as soon as the bell rings. We take turns pushing each other super high and pretending we can touch the clouds. Sometimes we play fun games like tag or hopscotch too. The hour just flies by!After recess, we have reading time which I used to dread. But this year, our teacher Mrs. Adams makes it so much fun. She does funny voices for all the different characters when she reads to us. My favorite book so far has been Charlotte's Web - I almost cried when Charlotte died!In the afternoons, we have math lessons which can be kind of tricky. But I'm getting better at remembering my times tables thanks to that catchy tune Mrs. Adams taught us. Who knew the multiplication facts could be so catchy?Before we know it, the final bell rings and it's time to go home. I always feel a little sad to leave school because I have such an awesome time. But I get recharged by playing outside,having snack, and doing my homework. Well, okay, the homework part isn't that fun. But I know it's important if I want to keep learning!School days are the best days if you ask me. I get to see my friends, explore new subjects, and exercise my brain. I'm already counting down the days until summer break is over so I can start 6th grade! Maybe I'll even join the science club or basketball team next year. The possibilities are endless.I feel so lucky to have great teachers who make learning an adventure. They encourage us to ask questions, try our best, and never give up - even when the work gets difficult. As long as we maintain a positive attitude and keep an open mind, we can conquer anything!Speaking of positive attitudes, my mom always packs me the yummiest lunch which gives me the energy I need to power through the day. A peanut butter and jelly sandwich, string cheese, baby carrots, an apple, and a granola bar - that's my favorite! I'm especially thankful she includes a special treat like a cookie or bag of chips too.After a busy day at school, I look forward to relaxing at home. I'll read, play outside, or watch a show. Sometimes Lucy and Olivia come over and we make up crazy dances or put onbackyard plays that we force our families to watch. We're all such drama queens!Before I know it, bedtime rolls around way too quickly. I begrudgingly get my pajamas on, brush my teeth, and try to stall as much as possible. I'm always begging for "five more minutes" until my dad starts pretending to snore loudly on the couch. That's my cue that it's time to go to sleep for real!As I snuggle under my cozy covers, I think back on the best parts of the day. I'll remember the jokes my friends and I shared at lunch or how proud I felt when I got a tough math problem right. Maybe I'll even dream about the awesome field trip we have coming up next week!School life is truly the best life. I'm making wonderful memories and discovering new interests every single day. I did so many fun things and had the craziest adventures. I can't wait to tell you all about it!It all started on the last day of school. I was so excited for summer to finally begin. No more homework, no more waking up early, just months of freedom and fun ahead. My parents had some awesome plans in store too which made it even better.Our first trip was to the beach. We went to this really cool beach town a few hours away from our house. The beach was huge with soft golden sand that felt amazing between my toes. The water was this beautiful blue-green color and nice and warm for swimming. I spent hours playing in the waves, building sandcastles, and burying my little brother up to his neck in the sand (he wasn't too happy about that!).After a few days at the beach, we went camping in the mountains. We have this big tent that feels like a mini house inside. My favorite part was making s'mores around the campfire at night. They're so gooey and delicious! We also went on some awesome hikes and saw lots of cool wildlife like deer, squirrels, and even a bear from pretty far away. Camping is tons of fun but I'm definitely glad we don't have to do it all summer long. I like having a real bed!The best part of the summer though was the week I got to spend at sleepaway camp. I was a little nervous at first since it was my first time being away from my parents for that long. But I made friends with my bunkmates right away and we had a total blast together. We did all sorts of activities like swimming, archery, arts and crafts, and my favorite - the ropes course up in the trees! It was a little scary up so high at first but then it felt like a real adventure. We also had these epic counselors who were crazy fun. I can't wait to go back again next year!After camp, my family took me on a surprise trip to an amusement park. It had the craziest biggest roller coasters I've ever seen! My stomach felt like it was going to jump out of my body on some of those loops and turns. I loved every second of it though and my brother was too chicken to go on most of the big rides so I didn't have to wait in line as much. We also went on some goofy rides that spun you around really fast. I thought I was going to puke after those ones! I may have ridden one too many times haha.Before I knew it, summer was coming to an end way too soon. I tried to soak up as much fun and freedom as I possibly could those last couple weeks. I didn't have a single complaintabout being bored or having nothing to do. My days were packed with excitement and adventure from start to finish.Now the new school year is starting up again. Part of me is bummed that summer is over because it's back to early mornings, homework, and having my days planned out for me. I just finished 5th grade and I've had such an exciting year full of big adventures that I can't wait to tell you all about!It all started last summer when my family went on a huge road trip across the country. We drove over 2,000 miles from our home in California all the way to New York City! I had never been that far away from home before. The drive took forever, but itwas so much fun. We stopped at roadside diners, quirky museums, and saw the most amazing natural wonders like the Grand Canyon. That thing is MASSIVE! I'll never forget that night.When we finally returned home to California, I felt like a true world traveler at 10 years old. That road trip across America opened my eyes to so many new places, people and experiences.I have so many amazing memories that I'll cherish forever.My project looked at the impact of extreme cold, radiation, salt and acidity on bacterial growth. It was like a messy science explosion in my room with petri dishes everywhere! In the end, I discovered that certain bacteria could indeed survive in incredibly harsh Martian-like conditions. I presented my whole experiment to the class with a PowerPoint presentation and even made little 3D models of bacteria. Mrs. Henderson was so impressed that she submitted my project to the school's science fair where I ended up winning 1st place! I was over the moon (pun intended).With my newfound fame as a 5th grade science prodigy, I was invited to be a special guest speaker and give a presentation at a local university. Can you believe it?? At 10 years old, I got to talk to actual college students and professors about my space bacteria research. I was so nervous beforehand, but it ended upbeing the coolest experience. Apparently the professors were really impressed by my advanced knowledge and experimental methods. Who knows, maybe I'll end up teaching at that university one day!That's not even the end of my crazy 5th grade adventures though. A few weeks after the science fair, our class went on a field trip to a nature reserve to study ecosystems and biodiversity. We got to hike through the woods, canoe across a lake, and see tons of amazing plants and animals up close. The highlight was when our guide pulled a massive snake out of a bucket to show us! Most of the kids were terrified, but not me. I've always loved reptiles so I was first in line to hold it. that snake was easily 6 feet long and muscular, but surprisingly gentle. What an absolute thrill!Whew, I warned you it was a year jam-packed with adventures, didn't I? From cross-country road trips to winning science fairs to holding giant snakes, 5th grade kept me on my toes at every turn.
