• Rock and roll (often written as rock & roll or rock ‘n’ roll) is a genre(类型) of popular music that originated and evolved(发展) in the United States during the late 1940s and early 1950s. Rock and roll began achieving wide popularity in the 1960s. Far beyond simply a musical style, rock and roll, as seen in movies and on television, influenced lifestyles, fashion, attitudes, and language. Now many young people like to listen to rock music which expresses their strong feelings.

The United States has the world's largest music industry and its music is heard all over the world. Since the beginning of the 20th century, some forms of American popular music have gained almost a global audience.

• Pop music is a genre of popular music which originated in its modern form in the 1950s, deriving(源自) from rock and roll. The terms popular music and pop music are often used interchangeably(可交换地), while the latter is a specific genre of music which has qualities which would make it appealing to a large audience.
