今天我想与你们分享一下如能何写出更简洁有力的个人陈述。也许你们大部分人已经对此内容有所了解,然而通过英国的UCAS(大学和学院招生服务中心)申请,我们将会用一份个人陈述申请五所不同的学校。因此,在文书写作中不能局限于为何要申请某所大学而更要阐明我们为何要以某个学科为自己的专业。对于那些想同时申请英国和美国大学的同学来说,要着重留意两国个人陈述的不同风格。

个人陈述结构

其实个人陈述并没有一个固定的写作规范。今天我要分享的是最常见的一种结构,也是我自己写文书时采用的。把个人陈述分为三个部分来写,第一部分也是最重要的一部分就是为什么你想学习这个专业。第二部分应写出你的学术成果如何显示出你是一个有很强学术功底的人。第三部分是你在课外活动中的成就。我认为,最具有挑战性的一部分是在文书中体现你申请该专业的原因与想学该专业的热情。如果你的心里已经想好了这个原因或是可以在文书中表达出来,那是很棒的。对我而言,我写了之前在医院三个月的经历是如何激励我成为一名在今后成为一名研究员并投身药学,探索一些疾病的治愈方法。

个人陈述内容

对于医学和法律这种毕业后的职业与所学课程直接相关的学科,我想你的动机,也就是为什么要学习这个学科是至关重要的。但是你也可以谈一谈想要学习某一学科的学术层面的原因。比如你可以选择一个你没有系统学习过但是却在课外花时间了解的学科领域,然后表达出对这个学科的强烈兴趣和想要在大学里深入学习的意愿。除了我提到的在医院三个月的经历,我还在个人陈述中提到了我读的一本书The Chemistry of Life. 这本书让我了解了生物化学中免疫相关的话题,我

便在文书中写免疫学是我想在大学能深入学习的领域之一。

个人陈述例子

所以这就是我五年前写的生物化学方向的个人陈述。我把为何想要学习生物化学分为两段展开。在第一段里我提到了在首尔的韩国癌症中心医院,也是我立志的经历。

在第二段,你会看到The Chemistry of Life这本书以及其中的相关内容来表明我想要深入学习免疫学,这也是我在学术层面想要学习生物化学的原因。

课外活动对于英国申请有多重要?

最后一部分是关于课外活动中取得的成就。任何能够显示出你的领导力、你是一个坚持不懈,刻苦努力的人的活动都是非常好的题材。但是要注意这最后一部分一定要简洁,要把重点放在前两个部分因为牛津剑桥的录取主要还是看学术成绩。这一点一定要注意。这也是英国申请与美国申请十分不同的一点,在申请美国学校的文书中你可以对校外活动写得具体详尽,许多成功的申请者也展示出了惊人的课外活动成绩。比如说为了某个你深信不疑的原因跑马拉松并最终赢得了一定数目的捐款。

这也说明了英国和美国学校的氛围不同。(当然这是一个在牛津上本科,普林斯顿上硕士的学生的个人观点。)美国的社团活动比英国多很多,并且参与学生社团的人数比例也大。

Whilst undertaking my A-level Biology course, the module energy and ecosystems was of particular interest to me.
