• Chinese papercuts are rich in content . The auspicious designs symbolize go od luck and the avoidance of evil. Th e child, lotus and bottle gourd desig ns suggest a family with a large numb er of children and grandchildren. Dom estic birds, livestock, fruit, fish a nd worms are also familiar objects de picted by Chinese farmers. Papercuts made in different areas have differen t characteristics. Shanxi window pape rcuts are simple and bold; papercuts from Hebei Province and Shanxi Provin ce are bright in color; papercuts in southern provinces are delicate and f ine.
