Why English Is Hard To Learn
为什么英语难学
James Donovan
We'll begin with box, the plural is boxes,
But the plural of ox is oxen, not oxes.
One fowl is a goose, and two are called geese,
Yet the plural of moose is never called meese.
You can find a lone mouse or a house full of mice, But the plural of house is houses, not hice.
The plural of man is always men,
But the plural of pan is never pen.
If I speak of a foot, and you show me two feet, And I give you a book, would a pair be a beek?
If one is a tooth and a whole set are teeth,
Why shouldn't two booths be called beeth?
If the singular's this and the plural is these, Should the plural of kiss be ever called keese?
We speak of a brother and also of brethren,
But though we say mother, we never say methren. When the masculine pronouns are he, his, and him, Just imagine the feminine: she, shis, and shim! 我们将从box 开始,复数是boxes,
但是ox 的复数是oxen,不是oxes。

一种家禽是goose,两个叫geese,
然而moose 的复数从来不叫作meese。

你可以发现一个孤独的mouse,或者一间满是mice 的房子,但是house 的复数是houses,不是hice。

man 的复数总是men,
但是pan 的复数从来不是pen。

如果我谈到一只foot,你向我展示两只feet,
然后我给你一本book,那么两本会是beek 吗?
如果一个是tooth,全套是teeth,
为什么两个booths 不应该叫作beeth?
如果单数是this,复数是these,
那么kiss 的复数是否应该叫作keese?
我们谈到一个brother,也谈到brethren,
不过我们虽然说mother,我们从不说methren。

当男性代词是he、his 和him,
请想象女性代词:she、shis 和shim!。
