2013年成人高考英语模拟试题及答案(5)

2013年成人高考英语模拟试题及答案(5)

⽆忧考为⼤家整理的2013年成⼈学位英语模拟试题及答案(5),供⼤家参考: Part I Reading Comprehension (30%) Directions:There are three passages in this part. Each passage is followed by some questions or unfinished statements. For each of them there are four choices marked A,B,C and D. You should decide on the best choice and mark the corresponding letter on the Answer Sheet with a single line through the center. Passage 1 Questions 1 to 5 are based on the following passage. What exactly is a lie?Is it anything we say which we know is untrue?Or is it something more than that? For example, suppose a friend wants to borrow some money from you. You say “I wish I could help you but I'm short of money myself.” In fact, you are not short of money but your friend is in the habit of not paying his debt and you don't want to hurt his feelings by reminding him of this. Is this rally a lie? Professor Jerald Jellison of the University of Southern California has made a scientific study of lying. (76)According to him, women are better liars than men, particularly when telling a “white lie”,such as when a woman at a party tells another woman that she likes her dress when she really thinks it looks awful. However, this is only one side of the story. Other researchers say that men are more likely to tell more serious lies, such as making a promise which they have no intension of fulfilling. This is the kind of lie politicians and businessmen are supposed to be particularly skilled at:the lie from which the liar hopes to profit or gain in some way. Research has also been done into the way people's behavior changes in a number of small, apparently unimportant ways when they lie. It has been found that if they are sitting down at the time, they tend to move about in their chairs more than usual. To the trained observer they are saying “I wish I were somewhere else now.” They also tend to touch certain parts of the face more often,in particular the nose. One explanation of this may be that lying causes a slight increase in blood pressure. The tip of the nose is very sensitive to such changes and the increased pressures make it itch. Another gesture which gives liars away is what the writer Desmond Morris in his book Manwatching calls “the mouth cover”。

Each of the passages is followed by 5 questions or unfinished statements. For each of them there are 4 choices marked A, B, C and D. choose the best and mark your answer on the ANSWER SHEET with a single line throw the center.Passage oneCancer is among the top killer diseases in our society today and scientists have found out that stress helps to bring it on. It is worthwhile to consider, therefore, what are the causes of stress in our life, and whether we can do anything about them. Are we under-employed, or overburdened with too many responsibilities? Do we have a right balance of work and leisure in our lives? Are our relationships with family, friends or fellow workers all they should be?All these things can be a cause of stress, and it is best to face it honestly, and to bring our frustrations(失意,挫折)into the open. People who have a good row and then forget it are doing their health more good than those who bottle up their feelings. If our self-examination has brought any causes of stress to light, let us consider what we can do about them. It is possible to change jobs. We can make more leisure and fill it more happily, if we will accept a different living standard. We can improve our personal relationships by a different attitude. It is we who allow other people to make ourselves unhappy. Often the little things that disturb us are not worth an hour’s anger. The teaching in the Bible “ Let not the sun go down upon your wrath(愤怒)” is good advice from the health point of view as well as religious.16. which of the following statement is true?A. Freedom from responsibilities helps relieve stress.B. Stress is the direct cause of cancer.C. The causes of stress are worthy of serious study.D. Cancer is the number one killer in our society today.17. According to the passage, which of the following types of people is more likely to suffer from stress?A. People who have cancer.B. Passage twoConcerning money or anything else, conflicts between husband and wife usually reflect a power struggle. Conflicts between parent and child often center around the same issue. As children enter adolescence, they begin to demand greater freedom to go where they please, do what they please, and make decisions without parental interference. Many American parents do not know how to deal with their teenagers and seek advice from books, lectures, and parent training courses. Parents want to maintain a friendly relationship with their teenagers and also want to guide them so that their behavior will be whatever the parents consider proper and constructive. But in a society of rapidly changing social and moral values, parents and children often disagree about what is important and what is right.Arguments may concern such unimportant matters as styles or hairdos. But quarrels may also concern school work, after school jobs, decisions, use of the family car, dating and sex behavior. Some families have serious problems with teenagers who drop out of school, run away from home, or use illegal drugs. Because so much publicity is given to the problem teenager, one gets the impression that all teenagers are troublemaker. Actually, relatively few adolescents do anything wrong, and all grow up into “solid citizen” who fulfill most of their parents’ expectations. In fact, recent studies show that the “generation gap” is narrowing. The vast majority of teenagers share most of their parents’ values and ideas. Many parents feel that they get along with their adolescents quite well.21. According to the writer, conflicts between husband and wife usually reflect _____.A. feeling of hatredB. power struggleC. that they don’t care for each otherD. that they may appeal to divorce22. As children enter adolescents, they begin to do the following except _____.A. demanding greater freedom to go wherever they pleaseB. making decisions without parental interferenceC. getting married whenever they pleaseD. doing what they please23. “--- generation gap is narrowing.” Means ______.A. the adolescents now become timidB. parents come to get along with their childrenC. the vast majority of teenagers share most of their parents’ values and ideasD. parents and teenager don’t like to quarrel24. Parents and children often disagree about what is important or right because _____.A. they have different styles of lifeB. they hate each otherC. parents think that their children are troublemakersD. they are in a society of rapidly changing social and moral valuesb d s f i d = " 1 8 2 " > 2 5 . The same man, who dislikes his job in the factory or even in the office ,may work hard at the weekend ,painting the house or digging the garden. What is the reason ,then ?In most cases ,it is because these people simply do not enjoy the Job they are doing .It does not give them any real satisfaction .It may be quite easy ,like making up wooden boxes ,but it is very boring.Very often they are doing a job which is just a small part ofa much larger one ,such as attaching a door handle to a car .But the part they play in actually making the car is so small that they can never say :I have made something !Yet in modern society somebody has to do ordinary jobs such as cleaning streets because this Is the way society is organized ,No matter how ordinary a job is, it plays a part in society and therefore deserves our due respect. Society cannot function a single day without the “dull and boring”jobs.[写作内容]1. 以约30个词概括上文的主要内容。

"you have neither regret, nor shame, nor any sense of guilt."The detectors, sold for up to $42,000 each, were said to be able to find such dangerous objects as bombs under water and from the air. But in fact they "lacked any grounding in science" and were of no use. It's fun to come home. It looks the same. It smells the same. You'll realize what's changed is you. Home is where we ran remember pain, live, and some other experiences; We parted here; My parents met here; I won three championships here.If I close my eyes, I can still have a clear picture in mind of my first home. I walk in the door and see a brown sofa surrounding a low glass-top wooden table. To the right of the living room is my first bedroom. It's empty, but it's where my earliest memories are. There is the dining room table where I celebrated birthdays, and where I cried on Halloween-when I didn't want to wear the skirt my mother made for me. I always liked standing on that table because it made me feel tall and strong. If I sit at this table, I can see my favorite room in the house, my parents' room. It is simple: a brown wooden dresser lines the right side of the wall next to a television and a couple of photos of my grandparents on each side. Their bed is my safe zone. I can jump on it anytime - waking up my parents if I am scared or if I have an important announcement that cannot wait until the morning.I'm lucky because I know my first home still exists. It exists in my mind and heart, on a physical property(住宅) on West 64th street on the western edge of Los Angeles. It is proof I lived, I grew and I learned.Sometimes when I feel lost, I lie down and shut my eyes, and I go home. I know it's where I'll find my family, my dogs, and my belongings. Scientists say the results suggest that the heart is able to influence how the brain responds to a fearful event, depending on which point it is at in its regular cycle of contraction and relaxation.Sarah Garfinkel at the Brighton and Sussex Medical School said: "Our study shows for the first time that the way in which we deal with fear is different depending on when we see fearful pictures in relation to our heart."The study tested 20 healthy volunteers on their reactions to fear as they were shown pictures of fearful faces. Dr Garfinkel said, "The study showed that fearful faces are better noticed when the heart is pumping than when it is relaxed. Thus our hearts can also affect what we see and what we don't see - and guide whether we see fear."To further understand this relationship, the scientists also used a brain scanner(扫描仪) to show how the brain influences the way the heart changes a person's feeling of fear."We have found an important mechanism by which the heart and brain ‘speak’to each other to change our feelings and reduce fear," Dr Garfinkel said."We hope that by increasing our understanding about how fear is dealt with and ways that it could be reduced, we may be able to develop more successful treatments for anxiety disorders, and also for those for those who may be suffering from serious stress disorder."47. What is the finding of the study?A. One's heart affects how he feels fear.B. fear is a result of one's relaxed heartbeat.C. fear has something to do with one's health.D. Ones fast heartbeats are likely to cause fear.48.
