Amy loved the toddler area with the small slides and fountains to play in.After we had been swimming and sliding for a while, we stopped to eat some birthday cake and open presents for Amy. The dentist said my teeth looked perfect and I wouldn't need any fillings this time. Phew!On Thursday, my class went on a field trip to the art museum. I've been there a bunch of times with my family, but I love seeing the paintings and sculptures again. This time, the museum had a special exhibit of modern art made out of recycled objects and materials. There were huge sculptures made from plastic bottles, tin cans, old tires and other discarded things. It was really clever how the artists could make cool designs using trash.My favorite piece was a giant dragon sculpture made from smashed up car parts. The artist used old bumpers for the body, hubcaps for the eyes, a muffler for the tail and all kinds of otherrecycled auto pieces to form the details. It looked so real and fierce! After touring the exhibit, we got to make our own art using recycled materials back in the classroom. I made a little robot sculpture using a soup can, plastic bottle caps, pipe cleaners and aluminum foil. I was proud of how it turned out.Finally, on Friday my mom took the day off work so we could go to the state fair together. I love the fair! There are so many fun rides, games, shows and food. We started off going on all the classic carnival rides like the Tilt-A-Whirl, Scrambler, and Ferris wheel. Then we watched some performances, including a trick BMX biking show and a magic act. The illusionist did all kinds of crazy tricks like making his assistant disappear in a box on stage! For a snack, I had my favorite fair treat – a funnel cake smothered in powdered sugar. So good!Later in the afternoon, we went to the petting zoo and farm animal exhibits. I got to brush a goat and feed lettuce to a big rabbit. The cow barn didn't smell too great, but it was amazing to see how massive those animals are up close. We watched a milking demonstration and learned all about dairy farming. Before heading home, we stopped at the midway to play some games. I was so excited because I won a giant stuffed bear byknocking down all the milk bottles with a baseball. My mom had to carry it since it's as big as me!Overall, last week was just jam-packed with awesome, memorable experiences.
