Last week, our class participated in an extracurricular activity on paper culture, which was really an unforgettable experience.
On Monday morning. Some classmates and I noticed an announcement on the school bulletin board, saying an activity on paper culture would be held in the Capital Museum. Fully attracted by the content, we signed up without any hesitation.
The activity started on Friday with a visit to the exhibition in the museum. The exhibition happened to set a specialized area where we spotted many vivid pictures and words fully displaying the origin and development of paper. Amazed by the fact that paper can be originated to Easter Han dynasty when an official named Cai Lun found out the secret of making paper, we couldn’t wait to dig out the detailed process of papermaking under the guide’s elaboration. What especially impressed us was how paper contributed to the dissemination 传播of knowledge all around the world.
Having enjoyed a culture feast, we were invited to have some hands-on experiences in making paper handicrafts. Divided into several groups by gender, we collected everyone’s wisdom and made our own paper-cutting masterpiece with the instruction of a professional. Knowing that paper-cuttings are often used to celebrate important occasions and enhance the joyous atmosphere, we, the boys group, created some productions like lanterns and fu character. While the girls mainly fixed their eyes on its function to beautify the homes, so they managed to design and make different shapes of paper, such as hearts, stars and birds. We really enjoyed the time during which everyone was immersed in the hand-making process and felt the charm of our traditional art form. Before we left, we took a group photo to record the day. With the little pieces of work in our hands, we smiled heartily to the camera. At that moment, not only did I feel great harvested in the activity on paper culture, but also I came to know that the wisdom of our ancestors shown in paper culture should definitely be honored, recorded and passed down.
