The most common speculation among believers is that the creature represents a line of long-surviving plesiosaurs. The scientific community regards the Loch Ness Monster as a modern-day myth, and explains sightings as a mix of hoaxes and wishful thinking. Despite this, it remains one of the most famous examples of cryptozoology. The legendary monster has been affectionately referred to by the nickname Nessie.
Part II Discovery and the birth of an industry
Nuclear energy produced by nuclear fission was recognized in the late 1930s. In the 1940s, nuclear energy was used for building atomic bombs. In the 1950s, it began to be used for a peaceful purpose. But starting from the mid-1960s, when larger and larger nuclear power plants began to be built, serious problems occurred, such as ill-management and costs.
Text 1 Nuclear Energy
Part I How it works (The mechanism of nuclear energy production)
Nuclear energy is produced when the nucleus of an uranium atom is hit by a neutron traveling at the right speed, which is called nuclear fission.
Advantages of nuclear energy
economic benefit: much more energy from a small piece of fuel in a much shorter amount of time
environmental benefit: less emission to the environment than with fossil fuels (oil, gas and coal).
Second sight
Second sight is a form of extrasensory perception, the supposed power to perceive things that are not present to the senses, whereby a person perceives information, in the form of a vision, about future events before they happen, or about things or events at remote locations. Second sight may have originally been so called because normal vision was regarded as coming first, while supernormal vision is a secondary thing, confined to certain individuals. It originated in the Scottish Highlands.
bagpipes
The Great Highland Bagpipe is a type of bagpipe native to Scotland. It has achieved widespread recognition through its usage in the British military and in pipe bands throughout the world.
Celtic cross
Celtic cross is the common name given to a symbol that combines a cross with a ring surrounding the intersection. It belongs to a kind of crosses with a nimbus. In the Celtic Christian world it was combined with the Christian cross and this design was often used for high crosses – a free-standing cross made of stone and often richly decorated. With the Celtic Revival the shape, usually decorated with interlace and other motifs from Insular art, became popular for funerary monuments and other uses, and has remained so, spreading well beyond the British Isles.
Part IV Recent developments
In the U.S., nuclear reactors are increasing their output; nuclear power has gained new adherents, including some environmentalists because it plays a significant role in cutting emissions.
The kilt is a knee-length garment with pleats at the rear, originating in the traditional dress of men and boys in the Scottish Highlands of the 16th century. Since the 19th century it has become associated with the wider culture of Scotland in general, or with Celtic (and more specifically Gaelic) heritage even more broadly. It is most often made of woollen cloth in a tartan pattern.
Disadvantages of nuclear energy
the problem of how to store the dangerous radioactive waste safely
Nessie
The Loch Ness Monster is a cryptid that is reputed to inhabit Loch Ness in the Scottish Highlands. It is similar to other supposed lake monsters in Scotland and elsewhere, though its description varies from one account to the next. Popular interest and belief in the animal has varied since it was brought to the world's attention in 1933. Evidence of its existence is anecdotal, with minimal and much-disputed photographic material and sonar readings.
In Europe, nuclear energy has also begun to be looked on more favorably.
Text 1: Discussion
What are the advantages and disadvantages of nuclear energy?
Part III Safety issues
The core melt-down at Three Mile Island 2 in 1979 and the explosion and fire at Chernobyl 3 in 1986 put the safety issues of nuclear energy in the spotlight.
