赛马是历史最悠久的运动之一。
自古至今形式变化甚多，但基本原则都是竞赛速度。
却始见于古希腊和古罗马。
罗马帝国全盛时代有驾车赛马、骑马竞赛以及所谓罗马式赛马(骑手跨立两马背上)

There was a story about the beginning of football.
1823年的某一天，英格兰沃里克郡拉格比镇的拉格比学校正在举办校内足球比赛，橄榄球橄榄球(7张) 有一位名为威廉·韦伯·艾利斯的学生，因为一次踢球失误感到懊恼，一时心血来潮，便抱起球跑向对方球门。
此一动作虽然犯规，却引起在场观众的兴趣。
此后在该校的足球比赛中，抱球跑的事情便频频发生，并逐渐传播开来。
后来经由一些热心人士的研究和改善，便逐渐发展成为一项新的运动。
由于是从拉格比学校开始发展的一种足球衍生运动，便称之为“拉格比足球”。

Because of a failure to kick the ball, a student called William Webb Ellis,picked up the ball and ran toward the other goal prompted by a sudden impulse.This action, though foul, has aroused the interest of the audience.After the school soccer game,the things that ran with the ball happened again and again and then gradually ter, through the research and improvement by a number of enthusiastic people, it gradually became a new sport. Because it is a sport derive from soccer in Rugby shool,so it is called "Rugby ”.
Rugby World Cup橄榄球世界杯的奖杯也是以Webb Ellis命名，称为Webb Ellis Cup
