Survey Report on the Innovative Undertakings of College StudentsBy Lisa XiaNankai UniversityJanuary ,2011【abstract】IntroductionNowadays, more and more people have the opportunity to enter college , when they graduate, they will face a difficult situation on finding job, this competition is so intensive that most people can't find a job suited with their majors or interest, what's worst, some people even can't find a job.However, some people focus on how to prepare for a job when they are still college students ,and some people only know study hard.The door to the path of employment is so narrow that not all the people can squeeze into it.Consequently,to let more students be familiar with the procedure of starting one's own business and get more experience, I designed and conducted a innovative undertakings of college students study project at Nankai University. This project considers the worldwide phenomenon of innovative undertakings, especially in China. And it lets us know the stude nts’ attitudes toward s pioneering work . It discusses many aspects such as the advantages and disadvantages of innovative undertakings of college students and it introduces a lot of information and common sense such as writing a plan and apply for the loan . This survey report describes the results of my study project.Class descriptionThis project was carried out for the latter 7 weeks in this semester. Every week we went to library and searched the Internet to collect materials to finish my PPT. And every student will do his or her presentation every other week.So I have 4 times to introduce my project.At the end of my presentation, I would get suggestions and comments from my classmates, instructor as well as teaching assistants and was expected to do a better job next week. I have a basic knowledge of innovative undertakings of college students now and my computer skills were heightened a lot.Requirements and guidelinesAt the beginning of this individual project, I was required to choose three topics and introduce them an then my classmates and instructor would help me choose the most suitable one. Here are the interviewees and their opinions:1.About the two students who are starting their own business now.In season one , I interviewed Zeng Jiahui:1) Basic Information: Zeng Jiahui,majoring in Japanese,opens a small shop with her roomates in Balitai New Cultural Square,Tianjin.They maily sell some manufacturing stationery and ornaments.2)The questions that I asked:A:How did you come up with this idea?B:What difficulties have you confront during the process?C:Do you have any experience or suggestion to share with those students who want to establish their own business?3)Answers:When a member of them searched online, she found this opportunity and then they made a specific plan about the location ,hiring shop assistant and so on. They have confronted a lot of difficulties during the process .However, she thinks as long as they cooperate and insist on it, they can overcome them. She suggests that a lot of students have this idea ,but they only think about it, they don't put it into operation.We should dare to do it.In season two, I interviewed Shao Zhengkun:1)Basic Information:Shao ZhengkunCollege of CommerceDepartment of Human ResourceRunning an educational institution in his hometown2)The questions that I asked:A.What business do you run?paring with people who have experience of working,what advantages do you think college students have?C.Do you have any experience or suggestion to share with those students who also want to establish their own business?3)Answers:He has been running for a educational institution for 2 holidays and he hopes he can expand it and attract more students. He thinks the advantages of innovative undertakings of college students id that we have so fertile brains that we can come up with many ideas , we have ambition and confidence to run our own business. At the end of the interview, he gave suggestions that two necessary conditions are needed for students who start their own business, one is courage and the other is considerateness, we can learn from those merchants form Wenzhou, China.2.About the opinion that students hold on innovative undertakings of college students:Some students think innovative undertakings may cost us a lot of time and money, they won't start their own business until they graduate.Some students say they are intend to start their own business. But their parents don't allow them to do. They think it's a nonsense.Some students have already opened their small online shop , however, due to many difficulties they have confronted, finally , they gave up. So they think to a college students , starting their own business is too difficult to come true.Some students strongly support college students start their own business, they think it is a good opportunity to learn abilities and accumulate experience for their future career. And our university and the government should stage out more policies to encourage students as well as help students.......What we can obtain from the interviews:This is my first time to conduct interviews alone. I think interviews are very interesting and challenging. Before carrying them out, I design the questions. When I was doing the interviews, I listened to the interviewees carefully and then asked the next questions according to what they have said. After finishing the interviews, I listened to the records and arranged what they said. And the most important and difficult task was that I needed to translate what they said into English to do my presentation. Because of the general lack of firm knowledge and factual data concerning this, we conducted a survey among college students. Data were obtained mail questionnaires which were returned anonymously. Some students can't understand what I mean-------To improve the ability of writing both in English and in Chinese2.Because time is limited, I didn't prepare English questionnaire so that my translation wasn't checked by my classmates and instructors-----------Though time is limited, prepare a English questionnaire as possible as I can3.Some questions are not professional. For example, when I divided those trades into certain kinds ,I didn't know if it was right -------------Need search the Internet and learn more knowledge to know the catalogues of trades4.The reflection of my results is drab.I only use one kind of form to show my results,it's not comprehensive---------Learn more computer skills and use various forms to show my results......What can I obtain from questionnaire:This is the second time I designed questionnaires, distributed them and then analyzed the feedback. I still thought it was a very complex work and I needed to spend a lot of time and energy on it. I spent one days designing, two evenings distributing the questionnaires, and three evenings on analyses. I took on this challenge and defeated it. And I made huge progress in sorting data, analyzing and presenting the results. I thought this was the most challengeable work.
