A woman was waiting for her flight at the airport one night. With several long hours before her flight, she bought a book and a box of cookies in the airport shop. The book was so interesting that she read it carefully. Suddenly, she saw the man beside her take a cookie or two from her cookies box. She tried to ignore it.

She read, ate cookies and watched the clock, as the “cookie thief” took her food. She was getting angrier as the time passed, thinking, “If I wasn’t so nice, I’d blackened his eyes!” With each cookie she took, he took one too.

When only one was left, she wondered what he’d do. With a smile on his face and a nervous laugh, he took the last cookie and broke it into half. He offered her half, as he ate the other. She took it from him and thought, “This guy is so rude. He didn’t even show his gratitude (感激).” When her flight was called, she gathered her belongings and headed for the gate without looking back at the man.

After she got on the plane and found her seat, she thought of her book, which was almost finished. As she reached in her pack, she cried out with surprise. There was her bag of cookies in front of her eyes! “If mine are here,” she thought, “then the others were his and he tried to share!” Too late to apologize, she realized with grief (悲痛) that she was the rude thief!

Hidden from the noise of Washington, D.C., Hillwood Museum is a special treasure. It contains (包含) one of the finest personal collections (收藏) of Russian and French art in the world.

Hillwood Museum was once the home of Marjorie Merriweather Post. She was a rich businesswoman. She owned one of the largest food companies in the United States. She was also very interested in collecting beautiful French art and furniture.

She moved to Russia in the 1930s as her third husband, Joseph Davies, became the American ambassador (大使) in Moscow. Marjorie Merriweather Post had a love for Russian art as well. She bought the house in Washington in 1955 and she wanted to make it into a museum after her death.
