I will study for my Ph.D degree in Electric and Computer Engineering in Auburn University.
2) What is your major? In what aspect of your major will you study? What's your favorite subject?
My major of undergraduate study in ZhongShan university is Computational Science and my major of Ms' degree in Peking University is Computer Engineering. My specified field of study is Video and Image Processing.
3) 4)What will you do in USA? / Are you going to study in USA?
I will study for my Ph.D degree in Electric and Computer Engineering in Auburn University. I plan to finish my study in about 4 years and then come back
to china.
5) When/where did you get your BS/MS?
I got my Bachelor's degree in Computational Science in 2006 from ZhongShan university. I got my Master's degree in Computer Engineering in 2010 from Peking University.
6) What/where are you studying now?
I'm unemployed now. I quited my job in October this year.
7) How long will you study in USA?
About 4 years. If I wok hard i can get my PHD within a shorter time.
8)Have you any scholarship?
9) Why you don't receive financial aid from this Univ.?
No, the competition in Electric Engineering is very fierce and the budget for international students who want to enroll in Spring semester is limited, so I didn't get any scholarship.
10) What do you do with your work for PhD?
I will take courses, teaching, do research, and finish my thesis in the area of image processing to get my Ph.d in Electric Engineering in 4 years.
11) What is your purpose for the visa?
I need a F-1 visa in order to study for my Ph.D degree in Electric and Computer Engineering in Auburn University. I plan to finish my study in about 4 years and then come back to china.
12) What is your academic background?
I got my bachelor's degree in Computational Science in 2006 from ZhongShan
University and got my MS's degree in Software Engineering in 2010 from Peking University.Image processing is my favorite research field, I have published several papers and a book on this field and I also have two years working experience on that.
13) How do you know this Univ.?
I searched the Ranking of University in Electric Engineering on line and read the schools among the top 100 lists, visited their website to get familiar with their faculty and research. I found there are 7 professors in Electric department in Auburn University whose research interest includes image processing, very many, then I decide to apply for this University.
14) What is your plan? What will you do after graduation?
I will specialize in Image Processing and finish my Ph.D study in Electric Engineering in Auburn University in about 4 years. Then I will come back to China and find a position in an University. My desired work place is ShenZhen, I'm going to join ShenZhen University to be a professor in Electric Engineering.
15) Give me three reasons that you will come back to China?
First of all, I'm the only child of my parents. I have to come back and take care of my parents since they will become older and weaker as time goes by. The attachment to family is very strong for our Chinese people.
Secondly, as you can see, I applied for a PH.D program instead of M.S. program. As far as I know, and probably as you know, Ph.D holders in the States are not so easy to find good jobs as Ms holders even in the same discipline. If I intended to find a job and stay in the states, I would not have applied for Ph.D. but MS program. And Ph.D will take much more time, without the real interest, who would pay so much time and energy to chase a Ph.D degree?
Finally, it will be very easy for me to find a good job in any of the big cities in china with my Ph.D in Electric Engineering got in the United States. My career objective determines that it is a better choice for me to come back to China than staying in the states. You see my long range objective is to become a professor and it would be very difficult for me to realize it should I choose to stay in the states, for the United States is a highly developed county, the competition to get a position in University is too fierce. On the contrary, if I come back to china, I have much better opportunity. Since china is underdeveloped, it leaves much more space for people, so it is much more practical for me to get a teaching position in a Chinese University.
16) Can you explain why 90% Chinese students didn't come back?
I think that is partly because they were afraid that they would not be treated fairly after they come back. As a matter of fact, that used to be the reality. But things has been changing greatly during recent years and much more students are coming back after they have finished their study. I also think this has something to do with the majors. As for students majoring in science, they may like the better equipment,
