Her bus had inched along through heavy morning traffic, making her a few minutes late for her very first job. She decided to start out half an hour earlier the next day.Once inside the lobby, she had to stand at the elevators and wait several minutes before she could get on one going to the sixth floor. When she finally reached the office marked "King Enterprises," she knocked at the door nervously and waited. There was no answer. She tapped on the door again, but still there was no reply. From inside the next office, she could hear the sound of voices, so she opened the door and went in.Although she was sure it was the same office she had been in two weeks before when she had had the interview with Mr. King, it looked quite different now. In fact, it hardly looked like an office at all. The employees were just standing around chatting and smoking. At the far end of the room, somebody must have just told a good joke, she thought, because there was a loud burst of laughter as she came in. For a moment she had thought they were laughing at her. Then one of the men looked at his watch, clapped his hands and said something to the others. Quickly they all went to their desks and, in a matter of seconds, everyone was hard at work. No one paid any attention to Marie. Finally she went up to the man who was sitting at the desk nearest to the door and explained that this was her first day in the office. Hardly looking up from his work, he told her to have a seat and wait for Mr. King, who would arrive at any moment. Then Marie realised that the day's work in the office began just before Mr. King arrived.

排第一的是:If only;要想了解这个词,还有only if ,only if就是if;但if only却不是only,only if既不是红花也不是绿叶。

44 its economy continues to recover,44.[A] Even though [B] Now that [C] If only [D] Provided that所以不选CA variety of activities should be organized 35 participants canremain active as long as they want and then go on to 36 else without feeling guilty and without letting the other participants 37 .35. [A] if only [B] now that [C] so that [D] even if所以不选还有in case,它等于lest,是唯恐,以免,万一。

Humans are often thought to be insensitive smellers compared with animals, __1__ this is largely because, __2__ animals, we stand upright. This means that our noses are __3__ to perceiving those smells which float through the air, __4__ the majority of smells which stick to surfaces. In fact, __5__, we are extremely sensitive to smells, __6__ we do not generally realize it. Our noses are capable of __7__ human smells even when these are __8__ to far below one part in one million.Strangely, some people find that they can smell one type of flower but not another, __9__ others are sensitive to the smells of both flowers. This may be because some people do not have the genes necessary to generate __10__ smell receptors in the nose. These receptors are the cells which sense smells and send __11__ to the brain. However, it has been found that even people insensitive to a certain smell __12__ can suddenly become sensitive to it when __13__ to it often enough. The explanation for insensitivity to smell seems to be that brain finds it __14__ to keep all smell receptors working all the time but can __15__ new receptors if necessary. This may __16__ explain why we are not usually sensitive to our own smells we simply do not need to be. We are not __17__ of the usual smell of our own house but we __18__ new smells when we visit someone else’s. The brain finds it best to keep smell receptors __19__ for unfamiliar and emergency signals __20__ the smell of smoke, which might indicate the danger of fire.1. [A]although [B]as [C]but [D]while2.

绿叶词:某个单词在历年真题中屡见屡不选(since,ever since,now that,what,涉及到虚拟语气的词:if only ,in case ,lest ,or else,表示关于的词一般都不选:as to ,about,or else ,with regard to with(in)reference to)成功率100%what:为什么不选?1.what引导从句,只能引导主语,宾语,表语从句,而考研重点考定语从句,同位语从句。

完型填空解题步骤(考研专用)北京新东方专用1、找红花和绿叶词(在选项中找)(1)红花词:however、although、yet、because、while、available(2)绿叶词:①since、ever since、now that、what(what不放在名词后,不引导定语和同谓语从句);②虚拟语气系列词:if only(只要)、in case(唯恐、以免、万一)、lest、or else(否则、要不然);③表示关于的词:as to、with regard to、with/in reference to、about。

2、做逻辑关系题(五大关系:对立、因果、并列、总分、递进)(在选项中找)(1)对立关系(包括转折和让步)转折词:however、but、yet、nevertheless、otherwise、but rather=but、nonetheless、or(还有或者的意思)、or else(均为“但是”)。

让步词:although、though、even though、even if、much as=also、as、while(还有同时的意思,但放在句首是“尽管”的意思)、whereas(均为“然而、尽管”)。

其他词:against、instead(of)、rather than(而不是)、admit、ignoring (忽略)、on the contrary、by contrast(相比之下)。

speculate vi. 沉思,思索;推测 (about, on, upon) 投机 (in): speculate in stocks(做股票投机) distinguish vt. distinguish A from B vi. distinguish between A and B
• 我们以2009年试题为例: • Plenty of other species are able to learn, and one of the things they’ve apparently learned is when to 8. • 8. A. fight B. doubt C. stop D. think • 选C。
• 32. A. tightening B. intensifying C. focusing D. fastening • 选A。

入选概率远大于but(有类似用法的词还有for example=for instance,though[仅限副词时],nevertheless,it turns out)AlthoughYet,“尚(未)”,与already相对Yet/still/already区别Because①because与forBecause从属连词,既可以放句首也可以放句中。

(一)利用“红花绿叶”原则一代红花词(往往入选的词):however,although,yet,because,while,available, availability做好的方法是:先选择再检查。

平均的mean a. 之上perform functions/play a part in 起作用扮演一个角色shape 对…… 直接的theimmediate relative/superior(上司)a. 适应(adjust to);容纳company v.陪伴in the company of 伴随着n.公司in perspective 正确地用透视法的down a. 支持(side with)n. 归功于(credit sth. to sb.)n. 事业;职业put down to v. 归因于v. 放下in question 谈论到的/value v. 转身;环顾四周三代红花词affect,for example,such as,something以及some的合成词绿叶词(往往不入选的词):since,ever since (从那时到现在),now that,what;in case(that)=lest=for fear (that),if only(=I wish),or else;about,as to,with regard to,with/inreference to涉及4分的重点单词的讲解以及再次强调1.however ad.“然而,但是”,在完形填空中,however入选的概率要远远大于but。

However,also,yet,while,although (as 出现也比较多,一般7:3,好好查as的用法)绿叶词,不选Since, ever since, now thatWhatIf only = I wish 过去式

Eg1、Although ,whereas(两个连词同义,都不选) because2、Hardly ,not(两个副词同义,选一个,hardly 在句首,要倒装) generally ,almost3、Excluding ,besides(两个介词同义,都不选) above , unlike4、Search ,seek(两个动词同义,选一个,search a place for sth.

Passage 8(2001 :DADBA CDBBA BCBAC ADCDC 【 A 5, B 5, C 5, D 5】Passage 9(2002 :【 A 5, B 5, C 5, D 5】Passage 10(2003 :ABCDC BDCAD ADBDC DBACA 【 A 5, B 4, C 5, D 6】Passage 11(2004 :CDADA BCDAB ACDBA BBDAC 【 A 6, B 5,C 4,D 5】Passage 12(2005 :CBACB ADADB CADCD BCDAB 【 A 5, B 5, C 5, D 5】Passage 13(2006 :ABDAD CBCAA CBDCC ABCAD 【 A 6, B 4, C 6, D 4】Passage 14(2007 :BDACC DBABC ADACB DCABD 【 A 5, B 5, C 5, D 5】可见,全部选 A 得 3分。

50. [A] if [B] as if [C] only if [D] if only【虚词题】46. [A] approach [B] flow [C] fashion 【实词-名词题】【 1997】in American business today, … 。

接近→ approach to ② n. 方法、途径→ approach to. flow ① n.

若用 hardly ,则句子为:hardly does everyone agree on …43.

42. [A] For [B] Because [C] As [D] Since【 1997】解析:该题用“ 红花绿叶” 原则选 B ,是错的,这是历年来“ 红花绿叶” 原则失效得特例。

[A] before [B] unless [C] until [D] because【 2004】children engage in criminal behaviorthey were not sufficiently penalized for previous misdeeds or that they have解析:engage in 参与、实施 ; 22 前后表因果关系,是前果后因,故选 because 。

[D] more than 【 2000】He must store a large quantity of grain all his grain immediately. Hecan continue to support himself and his family he produces a surplus.解析:consuming 消费观; instead of 而不是; as well as 和、也 (表并列 ; otherthan 除…

提醒:…… than ……

让步:although , though , even though(尽管 , even if, much as=also(虽然、尽管 ,as , while , whereas(然而、尽管。

其他:against , instead (of , rather than(而不是 , admit , ignoring (忽略、on the contrary, by contrast (相比之下。

44. Now that [C] If only [D] Provided that 【 1997】解析:Even though 尽管(让步 ;Provided that(=if 只要、如果(必须跟 -假设事情,不跟 -客观事实 ;its economy continues to recover, the US is increasingly becoming a nation of part-timers and temporary workers.

②、 although 和 but , because 和 so 不能在一句话中同时出现。

[A] For [B] BecauseSince 【虚词题】【 1997】survive , based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, is booming.

For workersthat came from being a loyal employee.

】1. [A] although [B ]as [D ]while 【 2005】this is largely because,解析:although 、 but 同时出现→ 在考两者的区别。

5. [A] anyway (然而 [C ]instead [D ]therefore 【 2005】Humans are often thought to be insensitive smellers compared with animals, ……sensitive we do not generally realizeit.

He is ill, I'll be on duty instead.④、 while 与 whereas 的区别:while 可以引导省略式的状语从句, whereas 不行。
