Harry, Ron, and Hermione, in conjunction with members of the Order of the Phoenix and many of the teachers and students, defend Hogwarts from Voldemort, his Death Eaters, and various magical creatures. Several major characters are killed in the first wave of the battle. After learning that he himself is a horcrux, Harry surrenders himself to Voldemort, who casts a killing curse at him. However, the defenders of Hogwarts do not surrender after learning this, but continue to fight on. Having managed to return from the dead, Harry finally faces V oldemort, whose horcruxes have all been destroyed. In the subsequent battle, V oldemort's curse rebounds off of Harry's spell and kills Voldemort. An epilogue describes the lives of the surviving characters and the effects on the wizarding world.Book 5The LAST SONGAuthor:Nicholas Charles Sparks (born December 31, 1965)Other works: Message in a BottleA Walk to RememberThe NotebookNights in RodantheBrief introduction:Bestselling author Nicholas Sparks's new novel is at once acompelling family drama and a heartrending tale of young love.Seventeen year old Veronica "Ronnie" Miller's life was turned upside-down when her parents divorced and her father moved from New York City to Wilmington, North Carolina. Three years later, she remains angry and alienated from her parents, especially her father...until her mother decides it would be in everyone's best interest if she spent the summer in Wilmington with him. Ronnie's father, a former concert pianist and teacher, is living a quiet life in the beach town, immersed in creating a work of art that will become the centerpiece of a local church. The tale that unfolds is an unforgettable story of love on many levels--first love, love between parents and children -- that demonstrates, as only a Nicholas Sparks novel can, the many ways that love can break our hearts...and heal them.Book 6 the Note BookAuthor: Nicholas SparksPlot summaryAt thirty-one, Noah Calhoun, back in costal North Carolina after WorldWar Ⅱ, is haunted by images of the girl he lost more than a decade earlier. At twenty-nine, socialite Allie Nelson is about to marry a wealthy lawyer, but she cannot stop thinking about the boy who long ago stole her heart. I love another woman with all my heart. It is enough for me.〞They joined hands to leave the world.Book 7 The Complete Works of Dale CarnegieIntroductionDuring the first thirty-five years of the twentieth century, the publishinghouses of America printed more than a fifth of a million different books. Most of them were deadly dull, and many were financial failures.''Many," did I say? The president of one of the largest publishing housesin the world confessed to me that his company, after seventy-five yearsof publishing experience, still lost money on seven out of every eightbooks it published. Why then did I have the temerity to write another book? And, after Ihad written it, why should you bother to read it?Fair questions, both; and I will try to answer them.I have, since1912, been conducting educational courses for business and professional men and women in New York. At first, I conducted courses in public speaking only-courses designed to train adults, by actual experience, to think on their feet and express their ideas with more clarity, more effectiveness and more poise, both in business interviews and before groups. But gradually, as the seasons passed, I realized that as sorely as these adults needed training in effective speaking, they needed still more training in the fine art of getting along with people in everyday business and social contacts.I also gradually realized that I was sorely in need of such training myself. As I look back across the years, I am appalled at my own frequent lack of fitness and understanding. How I wish a book such as this had been placed in my hands twenty years ago ! What a priceless boon it would have been.Dealing with people is probably the biggest problem you face, especially if you are in business. Yes, and that is also true if you are a housewife, architect or engineer. Reach done a few years ago under the auspices of the CARNEGIE Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching uncovered a most important and significant fact-a fact later confirmed by additional studies made at the Carnegie Institute of Technology. These investigations revealed that even in such technically lines as engineering, about 15 percent is due to skill in human engineering--to personality and the ability to lead people. For many years, I conducted courses each season at the Engineers' Club of Philadelphia, and also courses for the New York Chapter of the American Institute of Electrical Engineers. A total of probably more than fifteen hundred engineers have passed through my classes. They came to me because they had finally realized, after years of observation and experience, that the highest-paid personnel in engineering are frequently not those who know the most about engineering. One can for example, hire mere technical ability in engineering, accountancy, architecture or any other profession at nominal salaries. But the person who has technical knowledge plus the ability to express ideas ,to assume leadership ,and to arouse enthusiasm among people ---that person isheaded for higher earning power. In the heyday of his activity, john D Rockefeller said that "ability to deal with people is as purchasable a commodity as sugar or coffee. And I will pay more for that ability," said john D, "than for any other under the sun."Wouldn't you suppose that every college in the land would conduct courses to develop the highest-priced ability under the sun? But if there is just one practical ,common--sense course of that kind given for adults in even one college in the land ,it has escaped my attention up to the present writing. Those powers which you habitually fail to use! The sole purpose of this book--if you aren't then a little better equipped to meet life's situations, then I shall consider this book to be a total failure so far as you are concerned. For "the great aim of education," said Herbert Spencer, '"is not knowledge but action.'And this is an action book.Book 8How to Win Friends & Influence PeopleAuthor: Dale Breckenridge Carnegie 〔November 24,1888-November 1,1955〕Representative books: Public Speaking for Success , Five Minute Biographies , How to StopWorrying and Start LivingThe main content:How to Win Friends and Influence People is one of the first bestselling self-help books ever published. Written by Dale Carnegie and first published in 1936, it has sold 15 million copies world-wide. Leon Shimkin of the publishing firm Simon & Schuster took one of the 14-week courses given by Carnegie in 1934. Shimkin persuaded Carnegie to let a stenographer take notes from the course to be revised for publication. In 1981, a new revised edition with updated language and anecdotes was released. The revised edition reduced the number of sections from 6 to 4, eliminating sections on effective business letters and improving marital satisfaction.Book 9The Princess DairiesAuthor: Meg CabotMeg Cabot (born on February 1, 1967 in Bloomington, Indiana, UnitedStates) is an American author of romantic and paranormal fiction for teensand adults and used to write under several pen names, but now writesexclusively under her real name, Meg Cabot. As a memorial, he had plannedto lay her amber necklace on the summit of K2. After more than 70days on the mountain, Mortenson and three other climbers had their ascent interrupted by the need to complete a 75-hour life-saving rescue of a fifth climber. After getting lost during his descent, alone, he became weak and exhausted. Instead of arriving in Askole, where his porters awaited, he came across Korphe, a small village built on a shelf jutting out from a canyon. He was greeted and taken in by the chief elder, Haji Ali of Korphe. To repay the remote community for their hospitality, Mortenson recounted in the book that he promised to build a school for the village. After difficulties in raising capital, Mortenson was introduced to Jean Hoerni, a Silicon Valley pioneer who donated the money that Mortenson needed for his school. In the last months of his life, Hoerni co-founded the Central Asia Institute, endowing the CAI to build schools in rural Pakistan and Afghanistan.According to the book, Mortenson faced many daunting challenges in his quest to raise funds for the building of more than 55 schools in Taliban territory. Some of these challenges included death threats from Islamic mullahs, long periods of separation from his family, and being kidnapped by Taliban sympathizers.Reflecting on the state of a post-9/11 world, Mortenson advocates in his books and during his speaking engagements that extremism in the region can be deterred through collaborative efforts to alleviate poverty and improve access to education, especially for girls. Formerly in Afghanistan and Pakistan, schooling focused on boys. Because educated boys tend to move to the cities to find jobs, they seldom return. By contrast, educated girls tend to remain in the community and pass their enhanced knowledge to the next generation, thus, Mortenson suggests, educating girls has more of a lasting benefit for their community.Book 13The bridges of Madison county罗伯特沃勒〔1939--〕Main contentI though it was ironic and I'm not sure if was meant to be that a wonderful woman like Francesca will sacrifice, what could arguably be call the love of her life, for those children. The grown children's mediocrity was kind of shocking to me. Will the revelation of their mother's secret, reveal a latent, greater side to their natures. I hope so. Francesca deserved extraordinary children. Try no to miss this little miracle.Book 14OBAMA: FROM PROMISE TO POWERAuthor: David Mendell(an American journalist, born inCincinnati, Ohio, and currently lives in Oak Park, Illinois)Main content:Obama: From Promise to Power: This is the story of Obama’s life fromchildhood up until his decision to run for president, including anafterword about his presidential campaign through the Ohio primary. The book focuses on Obama's fast rise from obscurity to the national stage, but portrays it not as an unplanned phenomenon, but rather as the result of a carefully crafted and calculated plan by an ambitious man. The book utilizes both the first-hand research from Mendell's original reporting, as well as a wide range of interviews which Obama's aides, mentors, political adversaries and family. The National Review called Obama: From Promise to Power"the single best source of background information on our new president〞. Although the publication said the book was generally sympathetic toward Obama, it also praised Mendell for taking note of his faults and his "considerable ego", citing in particular the opening of the book, in which Obama confidentially states, "I'm LeBron, baby", before speaking at the 2004 Democratic National Convention. A review of Obama: From Promise to Power said the book "carries with it a certain oral history-style wholeness", due to the variety of people it profiled from Obama's life. The review said Mendell's long history of first-hand news coverage of Obama lended the book "both an insider's perspective and a journalist's shrewd critical eye, and the portrait that he paints of Obama is more comprehensive than any previous treatment of this remarkable man".Book 15Celebrity BiographyAuthor: Roman RollandIntroductionThis book shows us the real life of Beethoven, Mechanlengelo, andTolstoy.
