1. Anestablishing shot is an image shown briefly at the beginning ofascene, usually taken from far away. 2. Psychologistshave found that when people make important decision, theyoften choose to stayin their 〝Comfort Zone〞; that is, they prefer remaining incomfortable, familiar situations, rather than entering into new, unfamiliar ones.Thistendency is often referred to as the comfort zone bias. 接下来,文章对they often choose to stay in their 〝Comfort Zone〞做出了解释,也就是theyprefer remaining in comfortable, familiarsituations, rather than entering intonew, unfamiliar ones,所以这两句意思一样,我们只记后一句更具体的解释,所以目前我们需要记的就是when people makeimportant decision, they preferremaining in comfortable, familiar situations, rather than entering into new, unfamiliar ones. 这么一来,我们最终需要记录的就只剩下when people make important decision, theypreferremaining in comfortable, familiar situations,我们的任务就简单多了,复述起来也不浪费时间了. Your friend has suddenly received a lot of money.

Official-19 The Roman Armys Impact on BritainIn the wake of the Roman Empires conquest of Britain in the first century A.D., a large number of troops stayed in the new province, and these troops had a considerable impact on Britain with their camps, fortifications, and participation in the local economy. Assessing the impact of the army on the civilian population starts from the realization that the soldiers were always unevenly distributed across the country. Areas rapidly incorporated into the empire were not long affected by the military. Where the army remained stationed, its presence was much more influential. The imposition of a military base involved the requisition of native lands for both the fort and the territory needed to feed and exercise the soldiers animals. The imposition of military rule also robbed local leaders of opportunities to participate in local government, so social development was stunted and the seeds of disaffection sown. This then meant that the military had to remain to suppress rebellion and organize government.留下these troops had a considerable impact on Britain;也就是第一句说的是罗马军队对英国有影响。

These items measure your ability to understandand recognize the major ideas and the relativeimportance of information in a passage. You will beasked to select the major ideas in the passage bydistinguishing them from minor ideas or ideas thatare not in the passage. The correct answer choice willsynthesize major ideas in the passage. Because thecorrect answer represents a synthesis of ideas, it will not match any particular sentence fromthe passage. To select the correct answer, you will need to create a mental framework toorganize and remember major ideas and other important information. Understanding therelative importance of information in a passage is critical to this ability. In a Prose Summaryquestion, you will be given six answer choices and asked to pick the three that express themost important ideas in the passage. Unlike the Basic Information questions, each of which isworth just one point, a Prose Summary question can be worth either one or two pointsdepending on how many correct answers you choose. If you choose no correct answers or justone correct answer, you will earn no points. If you choose two correct answers, you will earnone point. If you choose all three correct answers, you will earn two points. The order in whichyou choose your answers does not matter for scoring purposes.

According to paragraph X, which/what/why...or in paragraph X, the author suggests/indicates...
In seeking to describe the origins of theater, one must rely primarily on speculation, since there is little concrete evidence on which to draw. The most widely accepted theory, championed by anthropologists in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, envisions theater as emerging out of myth and ritual. The process perceived by these anthropologists may be summarized briefly. During the early stages of its development, a society becomes aware of forces that appear to influence or control its food supply and well-being. Having little understanding of natural causes, it attributes both desirable and undesirable occurrences to supernatural or magical forces, and it searches for means to win the favor of these forces. Perceiving an apparent connection between certain actions performed by the group and the result it desires, the group repeats, refines and formalizes those actions into fixed ceremonies, or rituals. (TPO1 THE ORIGINS OF THEATER) According to paragraph 1, theories of the origins of theaterA. Are mainly hypotheticalB. Are well supported by factual evidenceC. Have rarely been agreed upon by anthropologistsD. Were expressed in the early stages of theater’s development[以origins of theater为关键词定位⾄本段第⼀句,one must rely primarily on speculation, 主要靠推测,也就是A, 主要是推论的。

所有的阅读文章,无论文章背景是什么,结构无非会分为以下几种,《新托福考试官方指南》上把托福文章结构类型大致分为四类:classification(分类),comparison/contrast(比较),cause/effect(因果),problem/solution(问题与解决方法)。

Paragraph 1 Research has shown that certain minerals are required by plants for normal growth and development.Paragraph 2 Mineral deficiencies can often be detected by specific symptoms such as chlorosis (loss of chlorophyll resulting in yellow or white leaf issue), necrosis (isolated dead patches), anthocyanin formation (development of deep red pigmentation of leaves or stem), stunted growth, and development of woody tissue in an herbaceous plant.Paragraph 3 Much of the research on nutrient deficiencies is based on growing plants hydroponically, that is, in soilless liquid nutrient solutions.Paragraph 4 While mineral deficiencies can limit the growth of plants, an overabundance of certain minerals can be toxic and can also limit growth.Paragraph 5 Scientists have known for some time that certain plants, called hyper accumulators, can concentrate minerals at levels a hundredfold or greater than normal.Paragraph 6 Only recently have investigators considered using these plants to clean up soil and waste sites that have been contaminated by toxic levels of heavy metals - an environmentally friendly approach known as phytoremediation.题目:Directions: An introductory sentence for a brief summary of the passage is provided below. Complete the summary byselecting the THREE answer choices that express the most important ideas in the passage. Some answer choices do not belong in the summary because they express ideas that are not presented in the passage or are minor ideas in the passage. This question is worth 2 points.Plants need to absorb certain minerals from the soil in adequate quantities for normal growth and development.1. Some plants are able to accumulate extremely high levels of certain minerals and thus can be used to clean up soils contaminated with toxic levels of these minerals.2. Though beneficial with lower levels, high levels of salts, other minerals, and heavy metals can be harmful to plants.3. When plants do not absorb sufficient amounts of essential minerals, characteristic abnormalities result.4. Because high concentrations of sodium chloride and other salts limit growth in most plants, much research has been done in an effort to develop salt-tolerant agricultural crops.5. Some plants can tolerate comparatively low levels of certain minerals, but such plants are of little use for recycling nutrients back into depleted soils.6. Mineral deficiencies in many plants can be cured by misting their roots with a nutrient solution or by transferring the plants to a soilless nutrient solution.

For example, it appears from their brain structure that toothed species are unable to smell. Baleen species, on the other hand, appear to have some related brain structures but it is not known whether these are functional. It has been speculated that, as the blowholes evolved and migrated to the top of the head, the neural pathways serving sense of smell may have been nearly all sacrificed. Similarly, although at least some cetaceans have taste buds, the nerves serving these have degenerated or are rudimentary. The sense of touch has sometimes been described as weak too, but this view is probably mistaken. Trainers of captive dolphins and small whales often remark on their animal’s responsiveness to being touched or rubbed, and both captive and freer-ranging cetacean individuals of all species (particularly adults and calves, or members of the same subgroup) appear to make frequent contact. This contact may help to maintain order within a group, andstroking or touching are part of the courtship ritual in most species. The area around the blowhole is also particularly sensitive and captive animals often object strongly to being touched there. The sense of vision is developed to different degrees in different species. Baleen species studied at close quarters underwater —specifically a gray whale calf in captivity for a year, and free-ranging right whales and humpback whale studied and filmed off Argentina and Hawaii —have obviously tracked objects with vision under water, and they can apparently see moderately well both in water and in air. However, the position of the eyes so restricts the field of vision in baleen whales that they probably do not have stereoscopic vision. On the other hand, the position of the eyes in most dolphins and porpoises suggests that they have stereoscopic vision forward and downward. Eye position in freshwater dolphins, which often swim on their side or upside down while feeding, suggests that what vision they have is stereoscopic forward and upward. By comparison, the bottlenose dolphin has extremely keen vision in water. Judging from the way it watches and tracks airborne flying fish, it can apparently see fairly well through the air-water interface as well. And although preliminary experimental evidence suggests that their in-air vision is poor, the accuracy with which dolphins leap high to take small dish out of a trainer’s hand provides anecdotal evidence to the contrary.Such variation can no doubt be explained with reference to the habitats in which individual species have developed. For example, vision is obviously more useful to species inhabiting clear open waters than to those living in turbid rivers and flooded plains. The South American bout and Chinese beiji, for instance, appear to have very limited vision, and the Indian susus are blind, their eyes reduced to slits that probably allow them to sense only the direction and intensity of light.Although the senses of taste and smell appear to have deteriorated, and vision in water appears to be uncertain, such weaknesses are more than compensated for by cetaceans’ well-developed acoustic sense. Most species are highly vocal, although they vary in the range of sounds they produce, and many forage for food using echolocation. Large baleen whales primarily use the lower frequencies and are often limited in their repertoire. Notable exceptions are the nearly song-like choruses of bowhead whales in summer, and the complex, haunting utterances of the humpback whales. Toothed species in general employ more of the frequency spectrum, and produce a wider variety of sounds, than baleen species (though the sperm whale apparently produces a monotonous series of high-energy clicks and little else). Some of the more complicated sounds are clearly communicative, although what role they may play in the social life and ‘culture’ of cetaceans has been more the subject of wild speculation than of solid science. Answer Choices (choose 3 to complete the chart):(1)The structure at Chaco Canyon was most likely used for something other than astronomy.(2)Prehistoric cultures in North America were not as advanced in their study of astronomy as werecultures in other parts of the world.(3)One structure used by a certain prehistoric culture to monitor astronomical events was eitherdiscovered or created by the culture.(4)Prehistoric cultures in North America created devices to monitor astronomica events.(5)The Bighorn Medicine Wheel was constructed with stones.(6) Prehistoric cultures in North America most likely understood the relationship betweenastronomy and their daily lives. 转折句型:however, but, yet2.定义句型:This …, These…3.结论句型:末句有thus, consequently, so … P96 <inside walls are all believed to be constructions that serve the function of monitoring and measuring astromonical events.shafts of sunlight fall between them and hit spiral markings carved into the side of a cliff.。

在江湖英雄帖(OG)中,对于Prose Summary的描述是这样的:“These items measure your ability to understand and recognize the major ideas and the relative importance of information in a passage.”,各位看官不妨注意一下major ideas这个词,翻译成我们汉人的话来说,就是主要观点或者是重要信息。
An introductory sentence for a brief summary of the passage is provided below。

An introductory sentence for a brief summary of the passage is provided below. Complete the summary by selecting the THREE answer choices that express the most important ideas in the passage. Some sentences do not belong in the summary because they express ideas that are not presented in the passage or are minor ideas in the passage. This question is worth 2 points.
