Draw and Paint from Observationand Imagination —Explore pencil, charcoal, ink, tempera paint andwatercolor. Learn about lines, shapes, form, brush handling and color mixing.Subjects include buds and blossoms, birds and springtime animals, still life, outdoorscenes, and portraits, plus ideas from your imagination.

Hooray for Clay —Let’sget messy and create wondrous worlds out of clay! Pinch, pull, sculpt and glazeimaginal outer Space visitors, or even your favorite foods. All skill levelsare welcome, open to new and returning students. Instruction focuses oncreative hand-building.

Fun with Metal —Makejewelry and mini-sculpture with copper sheet metal and wire to wear or hang.Stamp, fold, hammer, bend, cut, twist and even heat metal to create formsnature such as pea pods and leaves. Students will explore using basic handtools, especially hammers, cutters, files, pliers and torches to create worksin metal.

Teen Digittal Photography —This isan introductory class on digital photography for interested amateurs who wantto improve their photographic skills, as well as serious artists excited toexplore new photographic technology. We will cover camera basics, file formatsand digital printing. Students will learn how to use Adobe Photoshop to crop,tone and improve their pictures just like professional photographers.

I left home to support my sisterin her efforts to present a music festival. She lives on the other side of theworld, and I went to visit her, not wanting to leave and feeling like I wasleaving home against my will. However, I wanted to show her my support becauseshe is my only sister.

So I boarded the plane inmid-August, and hated the long flight. I arrived, tired and hungry. I left myhusband two years ago, alone, in our old New Orleans house.

I was all set and ready toperform for my sister for the music festival on Sunday morning when I receiveda call from Chicago. The hurricane was predicted to hit our city, and manypeople had already evacuated, but my husband chose to stay behind. Hecould not get a call to me on the other side of the world, but he could callhis cousin in Chicago. He gave his cousin a message for me, that he would bejust fine, and not to worry.

As the days went on, I finallytook the stage in front of hundreds of Europeans, and I realized. thanks to CNNthat New Orleans was under water.

I performed, hoping that myhusband would survive. And I performed perfectly. The audience stood andapplauded. I left the stage and went straight to the TV. I saw the street signnear my home, on Humanity Street, but nothing
