As T see it, this phenomenon is truly footed in fact. They are easy to give up and always turn a pessimistic attitude to failure. But why does it happen?First of all, I have a sense that it is the living condition that matters・Born in the 1980s, most of us are the only child in the family living in the green house, we receive endless care 1 ike flowers. Tt is the love from our parents that set us away from the real world. As this goes on, when we step into the society one day, we cannot get accustomed to the fierce and competitive social life. What's more, with a negative attitude, many young people are easy to be tired with everything. When coming across with a sticky problem, they are willing to stay behind rather than have a crack. Perhaps the so-called sloth has claimed them for its own.The last but not the least, nowadays, the competition in the society is fiercer than we could imagine・ In order to survive, the young people have to struggle under burden of study and work. Be adapted to the press and failure, the young people lose their self-confidenee and self-esteem 1 ittie by little, not to mention about the striving spirit.1.选择职业是一个人要面对的众多难题之一。

下面是我带来的,欢迎阅读!1There are people in Italy who cant stand soccer. Not all Canadians love hockey. A similar situation exists in America, where there are those individuals you may be one of them who yawn or even frown when somebody mentions baseball. 『Baseball to them means boring hours watching grown men in funny tight outfits standing around in a field staring away while very little of anything happens.』① They tell you its a game better suited to the 19th century, slow, quiet, gentlemanly. These are the same people you may be one of them who love football because theres the sport that glorifies "the hit". By contrast, baseball seems abstract, cool, silent, still. On TV the game is fractured into a dozen perspectives, replays, close?ups. The geometry of the game, however, is essential to understanding it. You will contemplate the game from one point as a painter does his subject; you may, of course, project yourself into the game. It is in this projection that the game affords somuch space and time for involvement. The TV wont do it for you.Take, for example, the third baseman. You sit behind the third base dugout and you watch him watching home plate. His legs are apart, knees flexed. His arms hang loose. He does a lot of this. The skeptic still cannot think of any other sports so still, so passive. 『But watch what happens every time the pitcher throws: the third baseman goes up on his toes, flexes his arms or bring the glove to a point in front of him, takes a step right or left, backward or forward, perhaps he glances across the field to check his first basemans position.』② Suppose the pitch is a ball. "Nothing happened," you say. "I could have had my eyes closed."The skeptic and the innocent must play the game. And this involvement in the stands is no more intellectual than listening to music is. Watch the third baseman. Smooth the dirt in front of you with one foot; smooth the pocket in your glove; watch the eyes of the batter, the speed of the bat, the sound of horsehide on wood. If football is a symphony of movement and theatre, baseball is chamber music, a spacious interlocking of notes, chores and responses.2As regards social conventions, we must say a word about the well-known English class system. 『This is an embarrassing subjectfor English people, and one they tend to be ashamed of, though during the present century class-consciousness has grown less and less, and the class system less rigid.』 But it still exists below the surface. Broadly speaking, it means there are two classes, the "middle class" and the "working class". (We shall ignore for a moment the old "upper class", including the hereditary aristocracy, since it is extremely small in numbers; but some of its members have the right to sit in the House of Lords, and some newspapers take a surprising interest in their private life.) The middle class consists chiefly of well-to-do businessmen and professional people of all kinds. The working class consists chiefly of manual and unskilled workers. The most obvious difference between them is in their accent. Middle-class people use slightly varying kinds of "received pronunciation" which is the kind of English spoken by BBC announcers and taught to overseas pupils. Typical working-class people speak in many different local accents which are generally felt to be rather ugly and uneducated. One of the biggest barriers of social equality in England is the two-class education system. To have been to a so-called "public school" immediately marks you out as one of the middle class. The middle classes tend to live a more formal life than working-class people, and are usually more cultured. Theirmidday meal is "lunch" and they have a rather formal evening meal called "dinner", whereas the working mans dinner, if his working hours permit, is at midday, and his smaller, late-evening meal is called supper. As we have said, however, the class system is much less rigid than it was, and for a long time it has been government policy to reduce class distinctions. 『Working-class students very commonly receive a university education and enter the professions, and working-class incomes have grown so much recently that the distinctions between the two classes are becoming less and less clear. 』However, regardless of ones social status, certain standards of politeness are expected of everybody, and a well-bred person is polite to everyone he meets, and treats a labourer with the same respect he gives an important businessman. Servility inspires both embarrassment and dislike. Even the word "sir", except in school and in certain occupations (e.g. commerce, the army etc.) sounds too servile to be commonly used.3Culture is one of the most challenging elements of the international marketplace. 『This system of learned behavior patterns characteristic of the members of a given society is constantly shaped by a set of dynamic variables: language, religion, values and attitudes, manners and customs, aesthetics, technology, education, and social institutions.』To cope with this system, an international manager needs both factual and interpretive knowledge of culture. To some extent, the factual knowledge can be learned; its interpretation comes only through experience. The most complicated problems in dealing with the cultural environment stem from the fact that one cannot learn culture—one has to live it. Two schools of thought exist in the business world on how to deal with cultural diversity. One is that business is business the world around, following the model of Pepsi and McDonalds. In some cases, globalization is a fact of life; however, cultural differences are still far from converging. The other school proposes that companies must tailor business approaches to individual cultures. Setting up policies and procedures in each country has been compared to an organ transplant; the critical question centers around acceptance or rejection. The major challenge to the international manager is to make sure that rejection is not a result of cultural myopia or even blindness. Fortune examined the international performance of a dozen large companies that earn 20 percent or more of their revenue overseas. The internationally successful companies all share an important quality: patience. They have not rushed into situations but ratherbuilt their operations carefully by following the most basic business principles. These principles are to know your adversary, know your audience, and know your customer.微信扫一扫二维码分享到微信好友或朋友圈来源:网友投稿。

Different cultures are more likely to causecertain different illnesses because of the food that is characteristic in thesecultures. That food is related to illness is nto a new discovery. In 1945, about35 years ago, government researchers realized that nitrates, commonly used topreserve color in meats, and other food additivies, caused cancer. Yet, these carcinogenic additives remain in our food, and it becomes more difficult all thetime to know which things on the packaging labels of processed food are helpful orharmful. The additives which we eat are not all so direct. Farmers often givepenicillin to beef and living animals, and because of this ,penicillin has been found in the milk of treated cow. Sometimes similar drugs are given to animals not formedical purposes, but for financial reasons. The farmers are simply trying to fatten the animals in order to obtain a higher price on the market. The first isthe sort of brain he is born with. Humanbrains differ considerably, some being more capable than others. But no matter how good a brain he has to begin with, an individualwill have a low order of intelligence unless he has opportunities to learn. So thesecond factor is what happens to the individual — the sort of environment in whichhe is reared. If an individual is handicapped envionmentally ,it is likely that his brain will fail to develop and he will never attain the level of intelligence ofwhich he is capable. The importance of environment in determining an individual's intellingence can bedemonstrated by the case history of the identical twins, Peter and Mark X. Things which were considered impolitemany years ago are now acceptable. Just a few years ago, it was considered impolite behaviour for a man to smoke on street. No man who thought of himself by smokingwhen a lady was in a room.Customs also differ from country to country. Does a man walk on the left or the right of a woman in your country? Or doesn't it matter? Should you use both hands whenyou are eating? Should leave one in your lap,or on the table? The Americans and the British not only speak the same language but also share a large number of social customs. For example, in both America and England people shake hands when they meet each other for the first time. A n economic survey of the year 1955, a typical year of the 1950’s, may be typical as illustrating the rapid economic growth of the decade. The national output was value at 10 percent above that of 1954 (1955 output was estimated at 392 billion dollars). During their lifetime,it can be expected that of these 3000 about 23 will be murdered,30 will die in traffic accidents, and nearly 750 will be killed by a smoking-related disease. The number of deaths attributed to cigarette smoking outweithts all other factors, whether voluntary or involuntary, as a cause of death. Since the late 1970s, when daily smoking among high school seniors reached 30 precent , smoking rates among youth have declined . While the decline is impressive ,several important issues must be raised.First, in the past several years, smoking rates among youth have declined very little. Second,in the late 1970s ,smoking among male high school seniors exceeded that among female by nearly 10 percent . The statistic is reversing.Third ,several recent studies have indicate high school dropouts have excessively high smoking rates, as much as 75 percent . Some research has shown that perhaps eighty percent of all human illnesses are related to diet and forty percent of cancer is related to the diet aswell, especially cancer of the colon. Different cultures are more likely to cause certain different illnesses because of the food that is characteristic in these cultures. That food is related to illness is nto a new discovery. In 1945, about 35 years ago, government researchers realized that nitrates, commonlyused to preserve color in meats, and other food additivies, caused cancer. Yet, these carcinogenic additives remain in our food, and it becomes more difficult all the time to know which things on the packaging labels of processed food are helpful or harmful. The additives which we eat are not all so direct. Farmers often give penicillin to beef and living animals, and because of this ,penicillin has been found in the milk of treated cow. Sometimes similar drugs are given to animals not for medical purposes, but for financial reasons. The farmers are simply trying to fatten the animals in order to obtain a higher price on the market. Although the Food and Drug Administration(FDA) has triedrepeatedly to control these procedures, the practices continue.1.What is the best possible title of the passage?a.Drug and Foodb.Cancer and Healthc.Food and Healthd.Health and Drug2.Which of the following statements is NOT ture?a.Drugs are always given to animals for medical reasonsb. Some of the additives in our food are added to the food itself and some are given to the living animalsc.Researchers have known about the potential dangers of food additives for over thirty-five years.d.Food may cause forty percent of cancer in world.3.How has science done something harmful to mankind?a.Because of science , diseases caused by polluted food haven been virtually eliminated.b.It has caused a lack of information concerning the value of food.c.Because of the application of science, some potentially harmful substances have been added to food.d.The scientists have preserved the color of meats, but not of vegetables.4.What are nitrates used for?a.They preserve flavor in packaged foods.b.They preserve the color of meats.c.They are the objects of research.d.They cause the animals to become fatter.5.The word 'carcinogenic' most nearly means '_____'.a.trouble-makingb.color-retainingc.money-makingd.cancer-causing5/200答案:cacbd6/200As the pace of life continues to increase ,we are fast losing the art of relaxation. Once you are in the habit of rushing through lift, being on the go from morning till night, it is hard to slow down. But relaxation is essential for a healthy mind and body.Stress is an natural part of everyday lift and there is no way to avoid it. In fact ,it is not the bad thing it is often supposed to be .A certain amount of stress is vital to provide motivation adn give purpose to life. It is only when the stress gets out of control that it can lead to poor performance and ill health. The amount of stress a person can withstand depends very much on the individual. Some people are not afraid of stress, and such characters are obviously prime material for managerial responsibilities. Others lose heart at the first signs of unusual difficulties. When exposed to stress,in whatever form,we react both chemically and physically. In fact we make choice between "fight" or "flight" and in more primitive days the choice made the difference between life or death. The crises we meet today are unlikely to be so extreme, but however little the stress,it involves the same response. It is when such a reaction lasts long, through continued exposure tostress, that health becomes endangered.Such serious conditions as high blood pressure and heart disease have established links with stress.Since we cannot remove stress from our lives(it would be unwise to do so even if we could),we need to find ways to deal with it. 1.People are finding less and less time for relaxing themselves because_____.a.they do not know how to enjoy themselvesb.they do not believe that relaxation is important for healthc.they are travelling fast all the timed.they are becoming busier with their work2.According to the writer ,the most important character for a good manager is his ________.a.not fearing stressb.knowing the art of relaxationc.high sense of responsibilityd.having control over performance3.Which of the follwing statements is ture?a.We can find some ways to avoid stressb.Stress is always harmful to peoplec. It is easy to change the hagit of keeping oneself busy with work.d.Different people can withstand different amounts of stress4.In Paragraph 3, "such a reaction" refers back to_______.a."making a choice between 'flight' or 'fight'"b."reaction to stress both chemically and physically"c."responding to crises quickly"d."losing heart at the signs difficulties"5.In the last sentence of the passage,"do so " refers to ______.a."expose ourselves to stress"b."find ways to deal with stress"c."remove stress from our lives"d."established links between diseases and stress"6/200答案:dadbcIn the 1960s, many young Americans were dissatisfied with American society. They wanted to end the Vietnam War and to make all of the people in the U.S. epual. Some of them decided to "drop out" of American society and form their own societies . They formed utopian communities , which they called "communes," where they could follow their philosophy of "do your own thing." A group of artists founded a commune in southern Colorado called "Drop City." Following the ideas of philosopher and architect Buckminster Fuller they built domeshaped houses from pieces of old cars. Other groups, such as author Ken Kesey's Merry Pranksters, the followers fo San Francisco poet Steve Gakin, and a group that called itself the Hog Farm, lived in old school huses and traveled around the United States. The Hog Farm become famous when they helped organize the Woodstock Rock Festival in 1969. Steve Gaskin's followers tried to settle down on a farm in Tennessee, but they had to leave when some members of the gruop were arrested for growing marijuana. Not all communes believed in the philosophy of "do you own thing," however . Twin Oaks , a commune founded in Virgiania in the late 1960s, was based on the ideas of psychologist B.F.Skinner. The people who lived at Twin Oaks were carefully controlled by Skinner's "conditioning" techniques to do things that were good for the community. In 1972, Italian architect Paolo Soleri began to build Arcosanti, a utopian city Arizsona where 2500 people will live closely together in one large building called an "archology" Soleri believes that people must live closely together so that they will all become one.1.Why did some young Americans decide to "drop out" of scoiety during the 1960s?a.They were not satisfied with American society.b.They wanted to grow marijuana.c.They wanted to go to the Vietnam War.d.They did not want all people to be equal.2.Where did the members of the Hog Farm commune live?a.In dome-shaped houseb. In old school husesc. On a farm inTennesseed. In an archology in Arizona3.Who gave the people of Drop City the idea to bulid dome-shaped house?a.Paolo Solerib.B.G.Skinnerc.Steve Gaskind.Buckminster Fuller4.What was the Twin Oaks commune base on ?a.The philosophy of "do your own thing"b.Virginaia in the late 1960sc.The ideas of psychologistd. The belief that people must live closely togerher.5.What is an "archology"?a.A person who studies archaeologyb.A large building where people live closelytogetherc.A city in A rizonad.A technique to contorl people7/200答案:abdcb8/200There are two factors which determine an individual's intelligence. The first is the sort of brain he is born with. Human brains differ considerably, some being more capable than others. But no matter how good a brain he has to begin with, an individual will have a low order of intelligence unless he has opportunities to learn. So the second factor is what happens to the individual—the sort of environment in which he is reared. If an individual is handicapped envionmentally ,it is likely that his brain will fail to develop and he will never attain the level of intelligence of which he is capable. The importance of environment in determining an individual's intellingence can be demonstrated by the case history of the identical twins, Peter and Mark X. Being identical, the twins had identical brains at birth, and their growth processes were the same. When the twins were three months old , their parents died, and they were placed in separate foster homes. Peter was reated by parents of low intelligence in an isolatedcommunity with poor educational pooprtunities.Mark was reared inthe home of well-to-do parents who had been to college. He was read to as a child , sent to good schools, and given every opportunity to be stimulated intellectually. This enviromental difference continued until the twins were in their late teens, when they were giben tesets to measure their intelligence. Mark's I.Q. was 125, twenty-five points higher than the average and fully forty points higher than his identical brother. Given equal opportunities , the twins , having identical brains, would have tested at roughly the same level.1.This selection can best be titled_________.a.Measuring Your Intelligenceb.Intelligence and Environmentc. The Case of Peter and Markd. How the brain Influences Intelligence 2.The beststatement of the main idea of this passage is that _____.a.human brains differ considerablyb.the brain a person is born with is improtant in determining his intelligencec.environment is crucial in determining a person's intelligenced. persons having identical brains will have roughly the same intelligence3.According to the passage , the average I.Q.is _____.a.85b.100c.110d.1254.The case history of the twins appears to support the conclusion that _______.a.individual with identical brains seldom test at same levelb.an individual's intelligence is determined only by his enviromentck of opportunity blocks the growth of intelligenced.changes of enviroment produce changes in the structure of the brain5.This passage suggests that an individual 'sI.Q.______.a.can be predicted at birthb.stays the same throuthout his lifec.can be increased by educationd.is determined by his childhood8/200答案:bcbcc9/200As she walked round the huge department store,Edith reflected how difficult it was to choose a suitable Christmas present for her father. She wish that he was as easy to please as her mother, who was always delighted with perfumeBesides, shoppong at this time of the year was a most disgreeable experience :people trod on your toes, poked you with their elbows and almost knocked you overin their haste to get to a bargain ahead of you.Partly to have a rest, Edith paused in front of a counter where some attracive ties were on display. "They are real silk," the assistant assured her, trying to tempt her. "Worthdouble the price." But edit knew from past experience that her choice of ties hardly ever pleased her father. She moved on reluctantly and then quite by chance, stopped where a small crowd of man had gathered round a counter. But none of the other planets in our solar system are capable of supporting life at present. One possible solution to the problem, however, has recently been suggested by American scientist, Professor Carl Sagan.Sagan believes that before the earth's resources are compleetely exhausted it will be possible to change the atmophere of Venus and so create a new world almost as large as earth itself. The difficult is that Venus is much hotter than the earth and there is only a tiny amount of water there.Sagan proposes that algae organisms that can live in extremely hot or cold atmospheres and at the same time produce oxygen, should be bred in condition similar to those on Venus. As soon as this has been done, the algae will be placed in small rockets. Spaceship will then fly to Venus and fire the rockets into the atmosphere .In a fairly short time, the alge will break down the carbon dioxide into oxygen and carbon. When the algae have done theri work, the atmosphere will become cooler, but befor man can set foot on Venus it will be neccessary for the oxygen to produce rain. The surface of the planet will still be too hot for man to land on it but the rain will eventually fall and in a few years something like earth will be reproduced on Venus.1.Inte long run, the most insoluble problem caused by population growth on earth will probably be the lack of ______.a.foodb.oilc.spaced.resources2.Carl Sagan believes that Venus might be colonized from earth because _____a.it might be possible to change its atmosphereb.its atmosphere is the same as the earth'sc.there is a good supply of water on Venusd.the days on Venus are long enough3.On Venus there is a lot of ________.a.waterb.carbon dioxidec.carbon monoxided.oxygen4.Algae are plants that can____.a.live in very hot temperaturesb.live in very cold temperaturesc.manufacture oxygend.all of the above5. Do you like yellow , orange ,red? If you do ,you must be an optimist, a leader, an active person who enjoys life, people and excitement. Do you prefer greys and blues? Then you are probably quiet, shy, and you would rather follow than lead. You tend to be a pessimist. At least, this is what psychologists tell us, and they should know, because they have been seriously studying the meaning of colours preference, as well as the effect that colours have on human beings. They tells us, among other facts, that we do not choose our favourite clour as we grow up----we are born with our preference. If you happen to love brown, you did so, as soon as you opened your eyes, or at least as soon as you could see clearly.Colours do influence our moods----there is no doubt about it .A yellow room makes most people feel more cheerful and more relaxed than a dark green one; and a red dress brings warmth and cheer to the saddest winter day. On the other hand ,black is depressing. A black bridge over the Thames River, near London, used to be the scene of more suicides than any other bridge in the area ----until it was repainter green. The number of suicide attempts immediately fell sharply ;perhaps it would have fallen even more if the bridge had been done in pink or baby blue.Light and bright colours make people not only hppier but more active. It is an established fact that factory workers workbetter, harder ,and have fewer accidents when their machines are painted orange rather than black or grey.1."You would rather follow than red"means_______.a.you don't like to follow othersb.you would be a member rather than a leaderc.you would be afraid of following othersd.you would like to be a leader rather than a follower2.If one enjoys life, one is sure toprefer________.a.red to yellowb.blue to orangec.red to greyd.blue to yellow3."They tell us, among other facts, that we don't choose our favourite colours as we grow up." 英语四级作文范文阅读第1篇In recent years, to get a certificate Why does this craze appear? To begin with, it is the employment pressure that forces college students to get more certificates. With the admission expansion of colleges, a lot more graduates have to face the fierce competition in the job market. How can one make himself more competitive? More certificates at hand, maybe. Furthermore, diploma and certificates are still vital standards by which a good many employers measure a person’s ability. In order to increase the qualifications for a job, the students compel themselves to run from one exam to another. From my point of view, we should be more rational when it comes to certificates, since certificates do not necessarily prove one’s ability. Being craz y in getting certificates blindly is nothing but wasting time. To conclude, we should focus on improving our ability but not getting a certificate of no practical value.英语四级作文范文阅读第2篇In China, there’s a saying that ^v^The landscape of Guilin tops that of any other place under heaven.^v^ In light of this, I will recommend Guilin as the first destination of my foreign friend’s trip to China.Overlooking the Li Jiang River, Guilin is located in the northeast of Guangxi. Various people have various answers. Some people think that money is the source of happiness. With money, one can buy whatever he enjoys. With money, one can do whatever he likes. So, in their minds, money can bring comfort, security, and so on. Money, as they think, is the source of happiness. But there are still a lot of others who think that money is the root of all evil. Money drives people to steal, to rob, and to break the law. A lot of people became criminals just because they were in search of money. And in the Western countries, there is nothing that can’t be bought by money. Many people lose their own lives when hunting it.I think that money is essential to life and we cannot do without money. But even though money is necessary to life, it can’t buy happiness. Happiness is not something that can be measured by money. It is a state of mind. One can have plenty of money, with which he can buy whatever he wants, and at the same time he is not happy because he is never satisfied orhe is troubled by various kinds of problems. Therefore, although money is necessary for a happy life, it can’t buy happiness.英语四级作文范文阅读第4篇English has been getting more and more popular in the last decade. While following a spate of scandals, some individuals and institutions involved in this field have encountered criticism in recent months. There are several reasons for this phenomenon. Above all, compared with those of developed countries, the charity awareness in our country is backward. Some people equal charity with donation, and therefore they believe that charity is the rich’s responsibility and has nothing to do with the middle-class and the poor. The second thing that must be taken into consideration is that a number of individuals and charitable organizations lack a sense of social responsibility, which results in the declining social credibility. For my part, I believe the following steps can address this situation. Firstly, people’s awareness of how profound influence charity can bring to our society should be heightened. Secondly, rigorous supervision must be carried out by the administrations involved, so that the charity activities will become more transparent.英语四级作文范文阅读第7篇Dormitory life is an indispensable part of college life. The Wall built from the 5th century BC until the beginning of the 17th century, experiencing our countrys various dynasties.Whats more, it embodies our primary principle: teamwork is everything. Obviously, it was rather difficult to build such a wall in the ancient days without any modern machines, because all the work had to be done only by hand. But millions of China people came together and made it a reality. Finally, the Great Wall expresses our determination to resist invasion. The Wall was originally a project of Qin dynasty designed to keep out the invaders. Although millions of people died for building the Wall, China people defended our own sovereignty.I believe that Mike will satisfy with my arrangement.英语四级作文范文阅读第9篇Many young people in China today prefer Western holidays to traditional Chinese festivals. Christmas is now celebrated by the younger generation all over China, and it has become especially popular as a romantic holiday for boyfriends and girlfriends or young married couples. Valentine\'s Day is also extremely popular, and even Halloween is being celebrated now. This phenomenon has actually developed quite naturally in recent decades due to our educational system\'s focus on English study and therefore on English-speaking cultures. To many students, Western culture has become a symbol of self-expression and freedom from restraint. Celebrating Western holidays has become a way for students to express their love ofsomething different from traditional Chinese culture, and to have fun together with their own generation. In my opinion, it\'s fine for students learning English and studying English-speaking cultures to celebrate Western holidays with their teachers and classmates. However, the way I see it, unless the young people later go abroad to live in those cultures, there is no reason for them to continue to celebrate them. We Chinese should hold on to our traditional festivals, the festivals which we have celebrated for centuries.英语四级作文范文阅读第10篇With the popularity of the Internet, network columns in which celebrities such as pop stars, atheles show off their wealth become prevalent.Opinions on this issue differ from person to person. An army of people, especially youngsters today are fond of these activities. Not only can they know about the latest information of these celebrities but also they can get their shopping desires stimulated by copying what the rich do. On the contrary, a number of people hold the negative attitude towards this phenomenon. They maintain that the show-off may mislead the public’s value of consumption that erode people’s outlook on life. For my part, despite the continuous improvement of people’s living standard, in China where the gap between the rich and the poor is increasingly widening, the rich should play at least a small role in helping those in povertity instead of flaunting their wealth.英语四级作文范文阅读第11篇^v^A new industry developed new stars of dress. You think of kind of Silicon Valley and all those new media industries where you know it\'s actually a virtue not to wear a suit, you know a suit\'s for squares - that\'s rather old-fashioned language. But you know there is a kind of reaction against the suit, isn\'t there?^v^^v^Yeah, I think when we see the 1960s, we see a move towards casualisation. And you\'re quite right in more formal industries like the law, like banking, people still wear the formal suit. But Silicon Valley, media people like yourself indeed wear open-necked shirts. But even in those areas now with the current difficulty with job market, you find it actually people are dressing flauntily more smartly. They are being a little more cautious. And when you look at the sort of best-dressed man in Britain today, guess what, he is backing a suit.^v^英语四级作文范文阅读第12篇Fast food is becoming more popular in China, especially among children and teenagers. Today、it’s certainly difficult to think of any other single thing that mirrors the fast pace of modern society as powerfully as fast food. There are several reasons for its popularity. First, it is very convenient and saves a lot of time. The trends of modern society seem to all point to one ultimate goal — saving time, and fast food well serves this purpose. Second, its popularity is also attributed to the clean andcomfortable environment of fast food restaurants, the excellent service, and the guaranteed quality of food. However From the nutritional point of view. It usually does not compose a balanced diet and doctors suggest that people, especially children, eat fast food as little as possible. Therefore, fast food is only a good choice when you are in a hurry and turn to it once in a while. (157 words)英语四级作文范文阅读第13篇As a product of modern computer and the Internet, online games have become very popular among college students. Many students have enjoyed great pleasure and satisfaction from these games. But as we see, some students lacking self-discipline are too much indulged in these games so that their health and academic performances are affected. This phenomenon has caused much worry from the teachers and parents. However, some others argue that online games are not always harmful. They can train the ability of youngsters to respond to things quickly. Moreover, they can stimulate their imagination and their interest in computer science. More importantly, it does bring college students much pleasure and release their pressure greatly. From my point of view, online games are a wonderful entertainment if you play them in a clever way. When they interfere too much with your study, it is better for you to give them up at once. But if you have enough self-control over them, you can certainly obtain real pleasure and benefit a lot from them.英语四级作文范文阅读第14篇With the modernization of the world, people’s standard of living has improved a lot. Then there appears a state of sub-health among people which poses a new threat to them. There are some tpical symptoms for people who are in a state of sub-health. First of all, those who suffer from it often have a headache or backache. Secondly, they feel like having a rest frequently. What upsets us most is that, the situation spreading countrywide. As a result, more and more workers in big cities are harassed by it, with a percentage of 75 in Beijing, 72 in Shanghai and 70 in Guangzhou respectively. Then how can we sovle this problem effectibely? Experts suggest that the best way to keep ourselves thealthy is to do exercises. It is also very important that people should form a good living habit, for example, getting up early and going to sleep early. Only doing so can we keep us healthy.英语四级作文范文阅读第15篇From the chart above, we can definitely get a conclusion that the more you learned, the higher your salary would be. The figures in the chart denied the claim that knowledge is useless. However quite a few people still hold the opinion that a higher education does no good to a better job since that there are many university students who can not get an ideal job. What I want to point out is that there is more than one factor that contributes to the failure of finding an ideal job for those who got a higher education. While those who failed to get a better education will hardly succeed in getting a good job because they didn’t get the knowledge systematically and scientifically. As the proverb goes like this, Knowledge is power. Education pays, sooner or later.英语四级作文范文阅读第16篇The rise of mobile phones has been blamed for a number of social ills, but your smart phone may also be making you physically sick as well.Scientists have identified a condition called “cybersickness”, which they say is the digital version of motion sickness. The phenomenon, which affects up to 80 percent of the population who own smartphones or tablets, leads to feelings of nausea and unsteadiness. It is caused by seeing fast motion on a screen and covers anything from a car chase in a film to scrolling through web pages on your phone. The more realistic the visual content is, the higher your chances of getting cybersickness. The condition was identified in a piece in the New York Times in which British and US experts said that it needed addressing.Cyriel Diels, a cognitive psychologist and human factors researcher at Coventry University’s centre for Mobility and Transport, said: “It’s a fundamental problem that’s kind o f been swept under the carpet in the tech industry. It’s a natural response to an unnatural environment.Motion sickness leaves sufferers feeling ill because they feel movement in your muscles and your inner ear but do not see it.The mismatch in digital sickness is the opposite—you see movement on the screen but do not feel it.The effect is the same and the symptoms include a headache, wanting to throw up, confusion and the need to sit down.Often cybersickness manifests itself in a subtle way and sufferers put it down to stress or eyestrain.Steven Rauch, a professor of otolaryngology at Harvard Medical School, said: “Your sense of balance is different than other senses in that it has lots of inputs. When those inputs don’t agree, that’s when you feel dizziness and nausea “Some studies that have been carried out into cybersickness found that women are more susceptible than men, the New York Times reported. Those who have Type A’ personalities—meaning they are confident and assertive—are more likely to suffer from cybersickness as well.Among those who have reported experiencing the condition have been video gamers who spend hours playing fast paced games.Cinema-goers have struggled with some scenes in action movies which have quick cuts and fast editing—and virtual reality has made the problem even worse.Jonathan Weinstein, a professor at the Kanbar Institute for Film and Television at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts, said: “The idea is to get audiences to feel like participants in the action rather than outside observers of the action.Engineers at Oculus VR, the virtual headset manufacturer, have admitted that digital motion sickness is one of their biggest problems.英语四级作文范文阅读第17篇Nowadays more and more parents are eager to send their children to study abroad before they finish high school by whatever means and at whatever is quite understandable for parents to send their children to study overseas because they place high expectations on their children. They are encouraged by the success stories of those who have completed their overseas study. With the development of economy, companies and institutions at home are giving more and more emphasis on overseas experiences, too. Consequently, pursuing overseas study became a kind of short cut in gaining a better future. Moreover, there is still one underlying reason for this rush-economic reason. The rapid economic progress in the past few years in China has enabled more and more parents to afford the huge cost for their children’s overseas for m e, overseas study is surely a helpful way to get both advanced knowledge and necessary experiences, but overseas study at an early age is neither necessary nor benef1cial. The students may be too young to either tend for themselves or think for themselves. I do think that overseas study can contribute to one’s self-improvement, but it’s better to be pursued after one has finished his college study at home, when he is more capable of learning and living on his own.英语四级作文范文阅读第18篇Recent years have seen a tendency in China that tourism is growing faster. According to a recent survey made by some experts, about 47% urban residents travel regularly, and 28% rural residents also make their tour across the country. The survey also shows that more people are interested in tourism, and will join the army in the future. Facing this tendency, we can’t help exploring some underlying factors that are responsible. In the very first place, with the policy of reform and opening up, Chinese people’s living standard has been greatly improved, and therefore, most of them can afford to travel around. What’s more, it is believed that people now take a more positive attitude to tourism, and regard it as a life style. In addition, tourism facilities are becoming better and better. For example, transportation develops fast, and many scenic spots are available now.Though there are still some problems with tourism, I personally believe that tourism should be playing a key role in our life. I also hope that our government will make policies to create a better environment for tourists.英语四级作文范文阅读第19篇It is reported by the World Luxury Association that by 2012 China will have been expected to be the biggest trade and consumer center of luxury goods. And this provokes a heated discussion. There are many factors that have stimulated this great change of consumption value. First of all, the rising of living standard enables people to afford the luxury goods. Secondly, owing to the high quality and famous designer, consumers prefer luxuries as long as the goods meet their needs in terms of aesthetics or collection value. Last but not least, it is vanity that derives more and more people to buy luxury goods. Consumers prefer so much to imitate their idols like pop stars that they just blindly pursue the trend and label themselves as rich. As a college student, I am supposed to buy what I can afford. I’ll take the factors like style , quality and design into consideration, regardless of whatever the brand is.英语四级作文范文阅读第20篇It has been said that when people succeed,it is because of hard work and that luck has nothing to do with I believe that hard work is very important and is the surest way to success for most people,I must disagree with this cannot be denied that luck often plays an important role in example, many important discoveries have been made by have been many cases of researchers and inventors making major breakthroughs while they were actually trying to solve another problem or create a different device.Furthermore, there is something to be said for simply being in the right place at the right time-perhaps meeting someone by chance who can offer a good job or rare of course, there are the rare examples of gamblers and lottery winners who beat the odds and achieve sudden and unexpected success. While the influence of luck cannot be ignored, this is not to say that one should depend on it and ignore the value of hard one is willing to work hard,I believe that success will eventually be achieved, with or without the added benefit of work is often an essential ingredient of luck because it enables one to take advantage of a lucky the scientist has not worked hard to develop his knowledge and skills,he may not recognize that lucky breakthrough when it comes suggestion is not to count on luck to bring you hard and keep your eyes open for that lucky opportunity.英语四级作文范文阅读第21篇last week, li ning and i studied in classroom. suddenly, lining said to me that he had a headache .i asked he to see doctor. he said it was not bad. after 5 miniuts, lining sai to me his headache very serious. so i helped him go to hosptialalthought there was sars around us, but i felt very rm from this thing. it told me that the love from true heart can help come across any difficult. we are so lucky that we live in a big warmth family. and not very long, my classmate was getting healthy and could come to school again. how happy we were!英语四级作文范文阅读第22篇Do you need books? Some have been teachers all their lives. Some devote their life energy to scientific research. Such people love their work and turn out to be specialists in their own field. They are usually high achievers. Some are different. They are in the habit of job-hopping, for they always pursue what is new and stimulating. They never seem content with their present situation. Some like to meet more people, make more money and new acquaintances, so they hop from job to job.As far as I am concerned, I want to be professionally strong. I am not in favor of frequent job hopping, as the saying goes Jack of all trades, master of none. But I want to have opportunities for advancement and as many colleagues as possible to cooperate and communicate with so as to be more creative and less partial.英语四级作文范文阅读第24篇The urban traffic is getting increasingly crowded nowadays in China. The roads are pakced with cars, bicylces and pedestrians and traffic jams, bus delays and traffic accidents are a common scene. Then how to solve this problem? Some suggest to lay down more roads to make the traffic less crowded and speed up the flow of traffic. Others believe that we should open up more public bus routes, so that more people will take the public buses instead of travelling by cars and bicycles.Though above two views sound reasonable, they have their own drawbacks. The fomer may take up much land which could be used for farms and houses. The latter may cause inconvenience for those who are used to travelling by car or bicycles. I think the best answerto the traffic problem is a combination of the two. More roads can be built to hold more traffic and meanwhile more public bus routes can be opened up to those who prefer to use the public transportation.英语四级作文范文阅读第25篇Smoe people say that money is the best thing in the world. But I consider reading books as the best and the most precious thing one can ever have.Reading books is very important. First of all, it is knowledge that makes society develop and by reading books you can get all kinds of knowledge. Furthemore, reading books makes you a qualified person and makes your life enjoyable. One is never too old to learn. Love books, for they are your best friends.英语四级作文范文阅读第26篇There is no denying the fact that it is a controversial topic whether one should expect a reward when doing a good deed. People\'s opinions differ sharply on this issue. Some hold the positive view. They say that it is a natural thing for one to get rewarded after he has made contributions to the society, especially in an age of market economy. Otherwise, people would be discouraged from helping others.Others, however, hold the opposite view. They maintain that one should learn from Lei Feng and expect no reward when helping others. Anyway, everything is not a commodity. The whole society would be in danger if we all calculated conscience and affection in terms of money. Anyway, as the saying goes, it is love, instead of money, that turns the world around. Personally, I believe that we should not go to extremes. On the one hand, we should recognize and reward in time people who have done a good deed or good deeds; on the other hand, we should keep it in mind that we do not help others for money, but out of love and responsibility. Only in this way can we achieve a really harmonious society.英语四级作文范文阅读第27篇There is an undeniable fact that the number of animals is declining faster than ever before. According to a recent survey made by some experts, about 37 species disappear from our earth every year. It is obvious that the problem has become a serious one worth our concern. When we explore this problem, some underlying factors emerge. In the very first place, human beings have played a big part. With the fast development of human society, the environment is much destroyed, and animals lose their home. Accordingly, some species become extinct. What’s more, people hunt animals for food and skin. A good case in point is that the Japanese have killed a lot of whales because they like to eat the meat. In addition, human beings are largely responsible for the pollution of natural environment, and poison animals in many ways. The current problem, I believe, should be solved immediately. First of all, our government should play a key role in making relevant rules and protecting animals. The general public should also be educated to value the existence of these animals on our planet.英语四级作文范文阅读第28篇omen are playing an increasingly important part in society today. more and more women go to work to earn money instead of keeping the house or looking after the children. women have entered many fields of society including scientific field. as we know, many women sports teams have won the world’s champions such as chinese women’s volleyball team.ith the changes in their social role, women’s position in the family has been improved as well. husbands are not the masters of wives in many places. husbands and wives are equal now. they join together to overcome difficulties and share happiness.豹眎n spite of these changes, the liberation of women has not been completely realized. also in some places. women are considered being “thing” belong to men. they have little chance to find jobs. they don’t get equal pay for equal job. this is a problem must be solved not only by society but also by women themselves.英语四级作文范文阅读第29篇Students mental health has been playing an increasingly important role in our day-to-day life. Indeed, it is widely accepted that it has gained growing popularity among persons in all walks of life. There is a general discussion today about the issue of disorder in brains. Obviously, it is necessary that effective actions should be taken to prevent problems. Authorities in universities play a critical role in the situation. To begin with, schools, such as colleges or universities, can provide chances for the young men to ease their attention. Whats more, some are physically strong, but psychological problems are able to bring potential threats. Teaches may have a chance to find them in advance. 近三年(2019—2021)英语四级真题作文参考11篇

2021年6月英语四级真题作文参考近3年四级真题作文参考11篇作文Directions: For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write an essay on are people becoming addicted to technology. You should write at least 120 words but no more than 180 words.参考范文1Nowadays, we are witnessing a surge in technology in all aspects. People’s views vary greatly on whether this trend are causing people’s addiction. In my point of view, being immersed in a sea of technology will definitely harm people’s life, even make them become addicted. For one thing, despite the fact that some technologies, are invented to help people, many of them are made to attract people’s attention and make profit. Unaware of this, one would easily get trapped in the world of technology, like computer technology, and lose himself. For another, since most of us are living in a highly digitalized society, few can escape from the influence of their friends and families who are already addicts to technology. All in all, without strict government restriction and proper guidance on computer technology, people are exposed to the risk of being addicted. It is also necessary for everyone to resist this temptation and maintain good self-discipline.Directions: For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write an essay on whether vio lent video games online will cause students’ violent behaviors. You should write at least 120 words but no more than 180 words.参考范文2Nowadays, violent video games online have become increasingly popular among students. Many people hold the view that such violent games can cause propensity for violence while others think that those games are only created for fun.In my opinion, such games do lead to a tendency of violence to some extent. On the one hand, students are easier to be misguided by some violent behaviors in those games since they are not mature enough to tell right from wrong. Consequently, they will probably imitate these behaviors in real life. On the other hand, some students can do what are forbidden in real life while permitted in these games, during which they gradually develop the quality of violence and become easier to make aggressive behaviors when conflicting with others. To sum up, I think we should reduce our time spent on those violent video games and do more meaningful things to live our life to the fullest.Directions: For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write an essay on whether technology will make people lazy. You should write at least 120 words but no more than 180 words.参考范文3In present society, the rapid development of science and technology has brought a lot of convenience to people’s life. But a host of people show concerns that the convenience of the technology is making people lazier than before. From my point of view, technology does not make people lazy. First of all, every advance in human history is the result of technological development. And this progress will promote the development of human productivity. Secondly, technology can liberate human beings from tedious manual labor, so as to carry out more meaningful innovation activities. Finally, human beings do benefit from technological progress, but they do not become lazy because society always evolves with time.To sum up, I think we should invest more in science and technology and develop new and more creative industries. At the same time, some exploratory practices are ought to be carried out as well to avoid being lazy.2020年7月英语四级真题作文参考Directions: For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write an essay on the use of translation apps. You can start your essay with the sentence "The use of translation apps is becomging increasingly popular. " You should write at least 120 words but no more than 180 words.参考范文4The use of translation apps is becoming increasingly popular. Nowadays, more and more people start to use them in helping with translating whatever written in foreign languages in daily life. There has been a hit debate on whether the use of translation apps does good to us. As for this issue, I think it has both advantages and disadvantages. On the one hand, the use of translation apps has greatly improved the efficiency of translating, saving time for us in a fast-paced working atmosphere, and especially helping those who are really not good at English. Once we see a new word or what we want to understand immediately, such as medical instruction or international news, we can solve our problem quickly with translation apps. However, on the other hand, the use of translation apps will result in our laziness. Many people rely on them so much that they don’t want to use their brains anymore. Besides, the preciseness of those apps still remains to be seen.Given the factors above, we can draw the conclusion that every coin has two sides. As for those apps, we should make reasonable use of them. Only in this way can we maximize their benefits.2020年9月英语四级真题作文参考Directions:For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write an essay on online libraries. You can start your essay with the sentence “Online library is becoming increasingly popular.” You should write at least 120 words but no more than 180 words.参考范文5Online library is becoming increasingly popular. Nowadays, more and more people are reading books through online libraries, which has aroused a heated debate over the pros and cons. In my opinion, online libraries’ advantages have been far out-weighted over their disadvantages.Online libraries’ merits are countless. To start with, online libraries can offer more readers with a wider range of books to read. People in remote villages can get access to as many books as those living in big cities. Also, online reading allows them to read anywhere at anytime convenient. Meanwhile, it can’t be neglected that online libraries could also result in the diminishing o f people’s reading time since most people tend to focus for a shorter time while reading online. In summary, despite their potential shortcomings, online libraries have a number of benefits in enhancing people’s reading experience and enriching people’s sp irituallife. With the constant development of information technology, I believe online libraries are bound to contribute more to our society. For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write an essay on online dictionary. Nowadays, more and more people are studying languages under the help of online dictionary, which has aroused a heated debate over the pros and cons. In my opinion, online dictionaries have both advantages and disadvantages. On the one hand, online dictionaries bring us great convenience to those who have trouble in learning languages in work and study. Because not only can the dictionaries enable us to figure out some complex words in some literatures or thesis but improve ourselves without the help of teachers. On the other hand, however, its demerits are also evident. Online dictionaries are not like a book that we can take anywhere but an electronic device. Once the device is out of power, it will influence our study. Additionally, viewing the screen for a long time undoubtedly does harm to users’ eyesight. From what I have illustrated above, we can find that the online dictionaries are more like a double-edged sword. Neither do we discard it nor completely rely on it. Only when we make reasonable use of it can we maximize its benefits tremendously. For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write an essay on the use of PowerPoint(PPT) in class. You can start your essay with the sentence "The use of PowerPoint is becoming increasingly popular in class". As more and more classrooms across the country are now equipped with multimedia screens and projectors, PowerPoint slide show has become one of the most common ways of teaching nowadays. There are a lot of factors contributing to the change of teaching equipment. First of all, it is more convenient for teachers to make PowerPoint slides than to write on a blackboard with a chalk, which is easier for students to understand as well. Moreover, teaching by using PowerPoint slide shows appears to be more interactive. There are a lot of functions that allow both the teacher and the students to mark, change and even animate the information on the slides, whereas the traditional equipment only provides limited possibilities of teaching methods. All in all, the continuous development of PowerPoint-assisted teaching opens up a bright future for education, and I am convinced that this kind of technology will continue to benefit more teachers and students.2020年12月英语四级真题作文参考1. changes in educationRecently, the topic of the change in the way of education has been brought into focus. Usually the first thinghis parents will say is “Why the B?“ What do you think will go through the child’s mind? Did hetry for the B? Or should his parents congratulate the child for the B and accept a lowerstandard? Not at all. What the child is really looking for acknowledgement and encouragement for the effort ingetting the five As. A parent after acknowledging and praising the As, can make clear hisexpectations of seeing all six As and offer help if needed. If we lower our standards, thechances are pretty good that the performance next time would drop to those expectations.Similarly at work, an employee does 100 things right and one thing wrong. In some universities students’ rating has even become the only source of information on teaching effectiveness. This, however, has caused great controversy. Some are in favor of the rating system. They hold that since students attend the teachers’ classes every day, they should have their opinion about their teachers’ effectiveness. Others, on the contrary, are strongly against it. They believe that there is much more to teaching than what is shown on students’ rating forms. Students should not be expected to judge whether the materials they use are up to date or how well the teacher knows about the subject. These judgments require professional knowledge, which is best left for the teachers’ colleagues.I think students’rating of their teachers is necessary, but it should be conducted in a way that can really shed meaningful light on teachers’ performance. Instead of rating the teachers’ knowledge on the subject, students should be asked to estimate what they havelearned in a course, and to report on such things as a teacher’s ability to communicate with students, his or her relationship with students, and his or her ability to arouse students’ interest in the subject.2.1. 宿舍生活有时会出现不和谐的情况;2. 一个和谐宿舍生活的必要性;3. 如何创造和谐的宿舍生活。

四级真题作文及答案 1In the modern era, there is aheated debate regarding whether theuniversitys library should be open to the public. Some believe thatit will do us more good than harm, while others argue that it wilpose a threat to the order and operation of the university. In myview, the university authorities shouldbe cautious about offeringthe outsiders an access to such an important venue,Above all,the library, serving as a critical academic facility as well asan indispensable researchsite for both students and teachers, issupposed to keep those limited valuable resourcesto its authorizedusers. If the university choosesto open the library to the public,it ishighly possible that a mass of people will rush into this place, leavingmany college students and teachersunable to complete their aca-demic work.Furthermore, when too many citizens crowd intothelibrary, there will be unnecessary talking, laughing, quarreling oreven chasing, incurring disorder of one kind oranother. In conclusion, the merits of such a practice outweigh the demerits. Therefore, opening the universitys library tothe public must neverbe put on the universitys agenda.四级真题作文及答案 2In the modern era, there is a heated debate regarding whether theuniversitys canteens should be open to the public. Some believethatit will do us more good than harm, while others argue that it willpose a threat to theorder and operationof the university. In myview, the university should recognize that this has both pros andcons.Lets start with the advantages.First,it allowsthe public to enjoy thediverse and delicious food offered by university canteens. This canenhance the reputation of the university and foster a stronger rela-tionship between the university and thelocal community.Second, itcan also generate additional revenue for the university, which canbe used to improve the facilities and services provided tostudents. However, there are also potential drawbacks to consider. For in-stance,the increased number of people using the canteen may leadtoovercrowding and longer waiting times for students during peakhours.Additionally, the public may have different preferences anddietary requirements compared to students, which could affect themenu options available and potentially increase costs. In conclusion, the university should weigh the merits and demeritsso that itcan provide the best possible eXperiencefor both studentsand membersof the public.四级真题作文及答案 3After the epidemic, there is a heated debate regarding whether uni-versity sports facilities should be open to the public. Some believethat itwill bringthe society much benefits, while others argue that itwill pose a threat to the security of college students. In my view, weneed to recognize that opening sports facilities to the public hasmore pros than cons.First,it has dramatically improved the health level of the whole soci-ety.People can eXercise on the playground to invigorate health ef-fectively,reduce the risk of heart disease, and lower the odds ofobesity, which not only prolong peoples life but also curtail thewholeeXpenditure of healthcare.Second, making university sportsfacilities available to the public contributes to the cost-cutting ofthegovernment. If thecampus sports facilities are not open to thepublic, government willalso build them elsewhere, which is boundto increase its budget pressure. In the mean time, the utilization ofsports facilities in schools will also be reduced if the public cannotaccess to them, resulting wasting of resources. In conclusion, although too many “non-students”might cause se-curity problem toward the university, this can be overcome by strict-er regulation, while allowing people to use sports facilities in thecampus will undoubtedly bring agreat deal of benefits to the wholesociety.四级真题作文及答案 4In recent days, our university is soliciting students opinions on whether university libraries should be open to the public. This is a topic that has sparked much debate. On one hand, there are several advantages to opening university libraries to the public.Firstly,it promotes knowledge sharing.Libraries are treasure troves of knowledge, and by opening them up, more people can access a wide range of academic resources, books, journals, and research materials. This can contribute to the overall improvement of societys intellectual level.Secondly,it can enhance theuniversitys social image.Demonstrating an openness and willingness to share knowledge with the public shows that the university is committed to serving the community and not just its own students.Thirdly, it may encourage more interaction and cooperation between the university and the outside world. For eXample, local residents who use the library might have opportunities to collaborate with university researchers or participate in academic activities. On the other hand, there are also concerns. One major worry is overcrowding. If the library is open to the public, it may become too crowded, especially during peak periods. This could disrupt the study environment for university students who rely on the library for quiet study spaces.Another concern is the potential misuse of resources. Some members of the public might not handle the books and materials properly, leading to damage or loss. Moreover, security issues might arise as it becomes more difficult to monitor who is using the library. In conclusion, while opening university libraries to the public has its merits in terms of knowledge sharing and community engagement, it also poses challenges in terms of crowd control and resource management.A careful balance needs to be struck to ensure that both the university community andthe public can benefit from an open library while minimizing the negative impacts.四级真题作文及答案 5The question of whether university libraries should be open to the public is a compleX one.As a student, I have given this matter a great deal of thought. For those in favor of opening, it can be argued that it is a way to give back to society.Universities are often funded by public resources, so opening their libraries allows the public to access the knowledge and information that they have helped to support.Additionally,it can inspire lifelong learning.People from all walks of life can use the library to eXpand their horizons and pursue personal growth. Moreover, it can foster a sense of community. The library can become a place where people from different backgrounds come together to learn and eXchange ideas. However, opponents point out several drawbacks. One issue is the strain on resources.University libraries are designed to meet the needs of students and faculty. If the public is allowed in, there may not be enough study spaces, computers, and books to go around. This could negatively affect the educational eXperience of university students.Another concernis security. With more people coming in and out of the library,it becomes more difficult to ensure the safety of the facilities and the people using them. There is also the possibility of noise and disruption, which can interfere with the study and research activities of students. In my opinion, university libraries could be selectively open to the public. For eXample, certain areas could be reserved for university users during peak study times, while other areas could be open to the public at specific hours. This way, the benefits of knowledge sharing and community engagement can be achieved while minimizing the negative impacts on students and the university community.四级真题作文及答案 6The debate over whether university libraries should be open to the public is an important one.On the surface, it seems like a simple question, but there are many factors to consider. One of the main arguments for opening university libraries to the public is that it can increase access to education. Not everyone has the opportunity to attend university, but by opening the libraries, people can still access valuable educational resources. This can help to level the playing field and provide opportunities for self-improvement.Additionally,it can promote cultural eXchange.People from different cultures and backgrounds can come together in the library and learn from each other. On the contrary, there are concerns about the impact on university students. If the library is open to the public, it may become more difficult for students to find study spaces and access the resources they need. There is also the risk of damage to books and facilities. Some members of the public may not be as careful with the materials as university students and faculty. Moreover, there could be issues with security and privacy. With more people in the library, it becomes more challenging to ensure the safety and privacy of students and their work.In conclusion, while opening university libraries to the public has its potential benefits,it also presents challenges.A compromise could be to implement a system where the public can access the library under certain conditions, such as during specific hours or with a library card. This would allow for some degree of access while also protecting the interests of university students and the integrity of the librarys resources.四级真题作文及答案 7The issue of whether university libraries should be open to the public is a topic of much discussion on our campus. Those who advocate for opening the libraries argue that it can enhance social cohesion.By providing a place for people to gather and learn, university libraries can help to build stronger communities. It can also be a source of inspiration for those who are passionate about learning but may not have access to other educational resources. Moreover,it can promote intellectual growth and creativity.People from different fields and disciplines can interact and share ideas, leading to new insights and discoveries. However, opponents worry about the practical implications. One concern is the management of resources.University libraries have limited space and resources, and opening them to the public may strain these resources. There could be issues with book availability, computer access, and study spaces.Another concern is the potential for disruption. The library is a place of study and research for university students, and the presence of the public may cause distractions and noise. In my view, a balanced approach is needed.University libraries could consider opening certain sections or resourcesto the public while maintaining dedicated areas for university students. This could involve setting up separate study areas for the public and implementing stricter rules on noise and behavior.Additionally, the university could work with the community to educate users on proper library etiquette and resource management. In conclusion, the decision to open university libraries to the public should be carefully considered, taking into account the needs of both the university community and the public.By finding a middle ground, we can ensure that everyone has access to knowledge while maintaining a productive learning environment.四级真题作文及答案 8As our university considers whether to open its library to the public, it is essential to make it difficult for them to access the materials they need.Another concern is the management of resources. The library staff may need to deal with a larger number of users, which could put a strain on their time and resources. There is also the risk of damage to books and facilities, as some members of the public may not handle thematerials as carefully as university users. Moreover, security and privacy issues may arise, as more people have access to the library. To address these concerns, several measures could be taken. For eXample, the university could implement a reservation system for study spaces to ensure that students have access when they need it.The library staff could also provide more resources and support for managing the increased number of users.Additionally, the university could work with the community to educate users on proper library etiquette and resource management. This could include workshops on how to handle books and use the library facilities properly. In conclusion, while opening the university library to the public has its potential benefits, it also poses several challenges.By carefully considering these issues and implementing appropriate measures, we can find a balance that allows both the university community and the public to benefit from this valuable resource.四级真题作文及答案 9The question of whether university libraries should be open to the access to education and those who do not.Secondly, it can foster a culture of learning and intellectual curiosity. When the library is open to the public,it becomes a place where people can come to through a reservation system or by setting specific hours for public access. The library staff could also provide more resources and support for managing the increased number of users.Additionally, the public argue that it is a way to promote knowledge sharing and social progress.University libraries are often home to a vast collection of books, journals, and other resources that can be of great and facilities and ensure a more harmonious use of the library. In conclusion, while opening university libraries to the public has its potential benefits and challenges, I believe that with proper planning and management, it can be a positive step towards promoting knowledge sharing and community engagement.By finding a balance between meeting the needs of the university community and serving the wider public, we can create a more inclusive and vibrant learning environment for all.第21页共21页。

上半年大学英语四级阅读200篇(第篇).doc

2019年上半年大学英语四级阅读200篇(第11篇)Engineering students are supposed to be examples of practicality and rationality, but when it comes to mycollege education I am an idealist and a fool. In high school I wanted to be an electrical engineer and, of course, any sensible student with my aims would have chosen a college with a large engineering department, famous reputation and lots of good labs and research equipment. But thats not what I did.I chose to study engineering at a small liberal-arts(文科)university that doesnt even offer a major in electrical engineering. Obviously, this was not a practical choice; I came here for more noble reasons. I wanted a broad education that would provide me with flexibility and a value system to guide me in my career.I wanted to open my eyes and expand my vision by interacting with people who werent studying science orengineering. My parents, teachers and other adults praised me for such a sensible choice. They told me I was wise and mature beyond my 18 years, and I believed them.I headed off to college sure I was going to have an advantage over those students who went to big engineering factories where they didnt care if you have values or were flexible. I was going to bea complete engineer: technical genius and sensitive humanist(人文学者)all in one.Now Im not so sure. Somewhere along the way my noble ideals crashed into reality, as all noble ideals eventually do. After three years of struggling to balance math, physics and engineering courses with liberal-arts courses,I have learned there are reasons why few engineering students try to reconcile(协调) engineering with liberal-arts courses in college. The reality that has blocked my path to become the typical successful student is that engineering and the liberal arts simply dont mix as easily as I assumed in high school. Individually they shape a person in very different ways; together they threaten to confuse. The struggle to reconcile the two fields of study is difficult.练习题:Choose correct answers to the question:1. 2013年12月大学英语四级考试真题(第一套)Directions: For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write a short essay based on the picture below. You should start your essay with a brief account of the impact of the Internet on the way people communicate and then explain whether electronic communication can replace face-to-face contact. You should write at least 120 words but no more than 180 words. The modern technology has greatly altered the mode of communication among people. With the help of the Internet, people can easily contact each other anytime anywhere. However, the side effect is that many people have become over-dependent on the Internet and neglected face-to-face communication. As far as Fm concerned, electronic communication cannot fully replace the direct contact among people. Although it seems to bring everyone together, it actually estranges people and decreases the effectiveness of communication. A typical example is that, traditionally, people working in the same office simply walk to others and talk. Today, however, co-workers tend to send e-mails or instant messages through the Internet even when they are sitting next to each other. As words can never convey the full message, it usually takes much more time and rounds of conversation than face-to-face communication, in which people can discuss more directly with less loss of information. To conclude, the Internet enables more effective communication in some situations, but over-dependence on it actually pulls people apart.点评:本次四级作文形式仍为漫画题,探讨因特网等现代信息技术对人们交流模式的影响。

How To Deal With DepressionIn recent years, more and more people have suffered from depression. With the increasingly fierce competition, more and more people are bearing great pressure from study, work and life.Under great pressure, many people begin to become sad, hopeless and finally suffer from depression.Depression has brought great bad influence on one'study, work and life.In fact, depression affects not only one's mind but also his body. Those with severe depression even unable to continue their work or carry out normal activities of depression. The symptoms mainly include feelings of sadness, hopelessness, not wanting food and trouble sleeping.Besides, depression is linked to many other diseases, like heart disease, What's worse, deprssion is one of the main courses of people's suicide.Considering the bad effects of depression, it must be taken more seriously. For those patients with depression, first of all ,it is important to accept treatment timely instead of covering or ignoring the disease. Besides, people shuold learn to release pressure and keep a pleasant mood. Actually, the best treatment is a combination of medication and psychological help.Only in this way can people reduce the chance of suffering from depression.Online gamesAs a product of modern computer and the Internet, online games have become very popular among college students. Many students have enjoyed great pleasure and satisfaction from these games. But as we see, some students lacking self discipline on too much indulge in these games. So that their health and academic performances are affected. This phenomenon has caused much worry from the teachers and parents. However, some others argue that online games are not always harmful. They can train their ability of youngsters to respond to things quickly. Moreover, they can stimulate their imagination and their interest in computer science. More importantly, it does bring college students much pleasure and release their pressure greatly.Form my point of view, online games are wonderful entertainment if you play them in a clever way. When they interfere too much with your study, it is better for you to give them up at once, but if you have enough self control over them, you can certainly obtain real pleasure and benefit a lot from themA quarrel in the dormitoryWeeks ago I witnessed the quarrel between my two roommates. It shocked me the two good friends fired out just for a very trifling matter. It was in the morning at weekend when I was washing my face in the bathroom. Suddenly I heard Ann and Sue shouting at each other. I hurried to come out to see what happened. It turned out that the noise of Sue’s closing the door waked Ann, whose bed is just beside the door. Ann thought Sue deliberately closed the door heavily. Sue didn’t have made her fault and said Ann was making trouble out of nothing. So their argument became ambits of quarrel. Though later they stopped quarreling under our persuasion, neither of them would like apologize to the other.Such a quarrel leaves me to think a lot about dormitory harmony. If either Ann or Sue can be a little tolerant or take a better way to express herself, this quarrel, I think, can be avoided easily. It is no doubt that a harmony dormitory life benefits all the members. But it needs our common efforts to build it.How to deal with peer pressure?College students are often obsessed by peer pressure from their classmates or schoolmates. Facing others’hard work and good performance in academic and other aspects, many students feel great pressure. Then, how to deal with this kind of peer pressure? The following measures can be taken.First, you should take a careful look at your present level and set a practical object. You needn’t always compare yourselves with those on the top and just make your efforts towards your object.Second, under peer pressure, you shouldn’t feel discouraged and pressed. Instead, you should make it your motivation for harder work. Finally, if you find pressure is nearly beyond your control, you’d better turn to professional psychological guidance. As a college student, I have no way to avoid peer pressure, so I try to figure out the way to do with it well. I set my own goal, including my practical level and my position among the peers. Because of my focus on my own goal, I have no time and energy to think about the pressure. So I’m little troubled by it.To conclude, we should not escape from peer pressure, but learn to make best use of it, since it can hardly be avoided.Travel alone or travel with a companion? When it comes to a traveling way, different people will offer different opinions. Some people like to travel alone, while others prefer to travel with a companion. Of course every one has different considerations for his preference. Traveling alone one can enjoy more freedom. The traveler can arrange his tour as he wishes. Without the trouble of compromising with others. Morever, traveling alone tends to bring the traveler unexpected surprises, such as making a new friend and enjoying different scenery.Compared with traveling alone, traveling with a companion has also its advantages. For one thing the group members can help and look after each other on the journey. For another traveling with others who have the same interest as you, you can share experiences and pleasure with them.As for me, I prefer to travel with a companion. Firstly, we can together deal with the possible problems and difficulties on the journey. Secondly, I like to share the experience of traveling with others. In summary, both traveling alone and traveling with a companion have their own attractions and you can enjoy the pleasure of traveling from either one.CriticismIt is not unusual for people to be subject to criticism. Anyone may be criticised by others in his work or study. For example: workers who fail to accomplish their tasks will be criticised. Students who have poor performance in exams will be criticised.Attitudes towards criticism differ from person to person. Some people will become annoyed if they are criticised and they will try to excuse themselves by all means. Some people tend to be indifferent criticism. They just regard criticism as nonsenses. But still some people accept criticism modestly and try to find their shortcomings by other's criticism. These people stand a better chance of success in their life.As to me, I welcome other's criticism to me. I have always believed the Chinese saying,"Good medicine but taste bitter will heal one's illness". In my opinion, the criticism will make us unhappy. It can help us know our shortcomings and inadequacy. Therefore,we should take other's criticism seriously, instead being annoyed with or turning a deaf ear to it.How should college students relieve pressure?Today’s college students face many pressures, mainly from parents’expectation, study, economy, employment and all kinds of competition. Although pressure, to some extent, can provide motivation, overdue pressure has a serious negative affect. Pressure can destroy a student’s confidence. More seriously it might make some students lose control of their emot ions and behaviors.Considering the great damage of overdue pressure, college students should learn how to relieve pressure. First, we should have a right evaluation of ourselves, so it’s to make use of advantages and avoid disadvantages. Second, we should set a clear aim of struggle. The aim can give us motivation and make us become active. Third, attending collective activities is an effective way to relieve pressure. Finally, if you find pressure is nearly beyond your control, you’d better turn to professional psychological guidance. As to me, my pressure is mainly from future employment. In order to reduce upset, I ask my parents to help me analyze my advantages and disadvantages and produce more practical job objection. So my employment pressure has been relieved greatly. Now I become very confident in my future, and I do believe I can get an ideal job after my graduation.Travel alone or travel with a companionWhen it comes to a traveling way, different people will offer different opinions. In summary, both traveling alone and traveling with a companion have their own attractions and you can enjoy the pleasure of traveling from either one.The Language of MusicA painter hangs his or her finished pictures on a wall, and everyone can see it. A composer writes a work, but no one can hear it until it is performed. Professional singers and players have great responsibilities, for the composer is utterly dependent on them. A student of music needs as long and as arduous a training to become a performer as a medical student needs to become a doctor. Most training is concerned with technique, for musicians have to have the muscular proficiency of an athlete or a ballet dancer. Singers practice breathing every day, as their vocalchords would be inadequate without controlled muscular support. String players practice moving the fingers of the left hand up and down, while drawing the bow to and fro with the right arm—two entirely different movements.Singers and instruments have to be able to get every note perfectly in tune. Pianists are spared this particular anxiety, for the notes are already there, waiting for them, and it is the piano tuner’s responsibility to tune the instrument for them. But they have their own difficulties; the hammers that hit the string have to be coaxed not to sound like percussion, and each overlapping tone has to sound clear. This problem of getting clear texture is one that confronts student conductors: they have to learn to know every note of the music and how it should sound, and they have to aim at controlling these sound with fanatical but selfless authority.Technique is of no use unless it is combined with musical knowledge and understanding. Great artists are those who are so thoroughly at home in the language of music that they can enjoy performing works written in any century.Computer Games on CampusToday, many college students are absorbed in playing computer games. Maybe there is some truth in the statement that computer games are fun and will train one's reactivity, determination and attention. However, the merits of computer games can never compensate for the negative effects they have. First, it is very time-consuming to play computer games. The game fans have sacrificed almost all their time, thus they have no time to attend class, to take exercises, or even to date. Upon graduation many will regret that they have wasted the precious college time on nothing. Second, the game fans, who spend their time before the lifeless computers, usually overlook their relationship with others. They would find that they have some mental or psychic problems. In my opinion, I don’t think we can benefit a lot from playing computer games. Study should always be given the first priority. Concerning the negative effects listed above, I do hope those game fans can step away from computer games.。

四级作文范文选(供学生参考背诵)1. Is a Test of Spoken EnglishNecessary?A test of spoken English will be included as an optional component of the College English Test (CET). Some people argue that it is absolutely necessary to hold a test of spoken English in China because we have been informed frequently that a Chinese student who has been learning English for over ten years cannot even communicate with a native speaker. Sometimes even those top students who excel in grammar and writing skills find their English inadequate to express their thoughts freely. A test of English will bring the college students an awareness of the importance of oral English, and will thushelp them with their communicating skills. On the other hand, some others still maintain that a good command of reading and writing skills will be enough for the English learners. To some extent their opinion derives from the fact that students are already under considerable pressure from their coursework. Another required test will only add to their burden. Moreover, some students may take the shortcut(捷径)by focusing on several guessed questions according to the fixed format(格式)of the test, hoping for a coincidence to bring them good luck.In my opinion, a test of spoken English will do more good than harm. Since China will continue its policy of opening and reform, the ability to speak English fluently is a must for anyone who wants to surpass(超越)others in a highly competitive society. Whether I take the test or not, I shall spare no efforts to practiceoral English in the remaining years of my college study.2. InterestsIt is no doubt that everyone has his interests. For example, your sister is interested in stamp collecting; your brother takes interest in physics; and you yourself have a liking for computer. To develop your interests will help you make way in the world. If you like to be a teacher and you receive adequate education, you will certainly make yourself a successful one. If you cultivate your various interests properly, you will probably find it easier to find a job or profession.Sometimes you have to give up your interests for one thing or another. If you have a family and still you have a great interest in watching TV or some otherpastime(娱乐), you have to give it up from time to time so that you can help with housework or spend time with your lovely kid.3. HonestyWhat is honesty? Honesty means telling the truth and being fair and upright (正直的)in act. Honesty is a good virtue. He who lies and cheats is dishonest. Those who gain fortunes, not by hard labour, but by other means, are dishonest.Honesty is the best policy. If you are honest in all matters, you'll be trusted and respected by others. A liar is always looked down upon and regarded as a black sheep by the people around. Once you have lied, people will never believe you even if you are telling the truth. The fable (寓言)of the shepherd(牧羊的)boy just makes a typical example. Honest, yourreputation will become great. Dishonest, your name will be spoiled and your personality degraded.Since honesty is so important, we must cultivate it. We should tell the truth at all times instead of making such an excuse as "A little dishonesty is only a trifle(微不足道的)thing". We should eradicate(根除;清除)immediately the seed of dishonesty once it is sowed in our minds.4. The Generation GapThe generation gap is the different ideas and attitudes toward the same matter between different generations.(definition)What causes the differences then? It is the rapid changes in a society that make many things different. Different generations receive distinct(截然不同的)education, and therefore have different knowledge and experiences. Parents wanttheir children to follow their old-fashioned and traditional rules and values. But the youngsters like to accept the modern ones and reject to maintain the old ones. Each generation has different things to do and they tend to(趋向于)have different attitudes towards many matters. Therefore, generation conflicts always arise. reject to do sth.In order to narrow the gap, each generation is supposed to be aware of the needs of the other. Has the idea ever occurred to you that each generation should respect the other, listen to the other and discuss problems with the other patiently?5. TravellingPeople who like travelling have their reasons. They maintain that travelling can help them expand their scope(范围)ofknowledge, especially geographical and historical learning(学问)避免重复词语. They go on to point out that touring provides more chance for them to enjoy food and try on clothes, which otherwise would be impossible. Those who dislike travelling have their reasons, too. They would argue that travelling means a considerable(相当大的,可观的)amount of money and energy. For example, traffic and accommodation calls for money and walking while seeing sights often tires you.In practice, travelling does more good than harm. If your finance and health permit, you might as well do some travelling from time to time. It will at least enable you to get familiar with people and things that you may well grow to like and love.6. A Good FriendEveryone wants a friend who encourages the best in him. Such a friend shows he is interested in strengthening another. He can be counted on to give his support, and he will criticize, too, because he knows a person has to have feedback(反馈) to grow and change.A good friend thinks carefully before he criticizes. He always asks himself whether his criticism is fair. He tries to find out all the facts involved in a situation because he knows how harmful inaccuracy can be.Kindness is also important to him. He wants to understand what the other person is feeling and respect those feelings. If a friend is both accurate and kind as a critic, everyone respects what he says. His criticism is something like love.7. AutomobilesAutomobiles(汽车), as the product of modern civilization, have been playing a vital part in the daily activities of human society. Industry needs automobiles for transportation. Agriculture needs automobiles for farming as well as transportation. Every day, automobiles drive people to or from work. At weekends, automobiles take families to joyful outings. And during travelling seasons, automobiles are all the more(更加)a common sight everywhere, even in remote areas. It can be said that the wheels of automobiles move human society forward. But automobiles have also given rise to a series of problems. For example, cities are overcrowded with automobiles. They make big noises and cause traffic accidents which disable or kill many people each year. Worst of all, perhaps, the air is polluted by the gases produced byautomobiles. Some of the gases are poisonous and dangerous to health.Obviously, automobiles, like anything else, have more than one side. While they are so indispensable(不可缺少的)to mankind, they also bring us serious problems. It's only hoped that mankind, while making the most out of automobiles, will eventually find satisfactory solutions to problems.8. The World Is Getting Smaller AndSmallerMost of us may have such experiences: When you go to some place far away from the city where you live and think you know nobody there, you are surprised to find that you run into one of your old classmates on the street. Perhaps both of you would cry out, "What a small world!"(引入自然)Why is the world getting smaller and smaller? For one thing, faster and safer means of transport have greatly reduced distance. In the past it took people eight weeks to cross the Pacific Ocean, but now an air journey from Shanghai to New York only takes eight hours. For another, the quickening pace of modern society creates more opportunities for people to visit each other. For example, business activities and cultural exchange have brought peoples into constant(持续的)contact with the world. So we may safely draw the conclusion that the more advanced a society and technology, the smaller the world will be.9. Make Our Cities GreenerIn recent years, while our industries and business have developed quickly, thenumber of trees in many big cities has dramatically reduced. Efforts are being made to prevent more trees from being fallen down, but it is of importance to realize the significance of making cities greener.Making cities greener has many advantages. First, it can make our air cleaner. Scientific research has proved that trees can reduce great amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere through absorption.Second, it can render(使…成为)our cities more beautiful. With trees and flowers everywhere, there is a pleasant feeling that we live in a beautiful garden. Finally, it can produce timber(木材)—an effective way to solve the problem of the limited supply of natural resources.Making our cities greener requires a nationwide effort. There should not only be a widespread(普遍的) awareness of its contribution to urban environment, butalso a common action to plant more trees and preserve them from commercial use.10. HealthHealth is the foundation of one's future success. If you become sick, it is impossible for you to go on with your study or your work. On the contrary, if you are strong, you can overcome the difficulties that lie ahead of you.How can you have good health? Firstly, you should do exercise every day to strengthen your bodies.Secondly, you should form some good habits, such as early rising(早起). If you get up early, you can breathe fresh air. Thirdly, you should pay great attention to your health. If you are getting sick, you'd better go and see a doctor. In a word, nothing is more valuable than health. In good health, a student mayabsorb more knowledge and solve more complex problems. In good health, scientists can achieve more success and make more contributions.11. Advantages and Disadvantages ofTelephoneTelephone is one of the most welcome and popular communication means. It is a great carrier(邮递员)of massages. Many people use it almost every day. I can hardly imagine how we would get on if we didn't have telephones. There are some advantages of telephones. The first is speed and the second is directness. If you want to get an immediate connection,it is obviously quicker to phone someone than to write a letter. If you want information, it is probable to get it directly by telephone. Another advantage is that telephone cangive you a personal feeling. If you want to talk or get in contact with a friend or a relative, you feel much closer to them when you are talking to them on the telephone. However, telephones have some disadvantages. If you have a telephone at home, it often rings at an inconvenient time. It may ring when you are having a bath or when you are watching your favourite television program. Another disadvantage is that sometimes you might misunderstand what somebody is saying. If it is a matter of really important information, it is probably safer to have it in a letter than on telephone.12. Ways of Relaxing"All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy"is a popular saying in English. There is much truth in it. It means that inorder to keep ourselves in good health, we must take sufficient recreations.Everyone has his own way of relaxing. For people who sit much of the time at work, cycling is said to be a capital means of exercise. A good brisk walk is one of the finest forms of exercise, too. For people engaged in outdoor work, reading is an excellent change if suitable books are chosen.I like sports and enjoy participating in them. My favourite sport is table-tennis because it brings the whole body into action. In fact, it doesn't matter whether I play a game of ping-pang or concentrate on the bridge table. It is important for me to relax from time to time.13. The Way to SuccessEveryone tries to achieve success in his career. However, someone finallyattains his goal while another fails. Why? The one continues his cause to the end through long periods of hard struggling, but the other is easily disappointed or stops halfway.Strong will, perseverance and diligence are the three essentials of success.A man of strong will and perseverance always has an inflexible spirit. He sticks to his cause no matter how tough it might be. Dr. Sun Yat-sen was such a man. Many of his attempts failed, but he held to his purpose with firmness and finally succeeded in overthrowing the Qing Dynasty. Diligence means steadiness in one's work and study. Su Qin stabbed himself in order to keep attentive to studies. Marx often worked 15 hours a day. Life is short and we have many things to do. Without diligence no one can achieve anything.I believe that where there is a willthere is a way, and that success belongs to those who can suffer long years of patient toil and constant efforts.14. MoneyAs we all know, money is as important as air and water in the commercial world. Whatever we buy, wherever we go, we need money. Without it, there is nothing we can do, so to speak. However, we cannot take it for granted that money is everything. It has its negative effects, too. For example, some people may misuse money by gambling, drinking excessively or addicting themselves to drugs. Some others may even commit crimes in order to get much money. In my opinion, money itself is neither good nor bad. What counts lies in how to make good use of it. We need money inour daily life, but we should not be the slaves of money.15. Population of a Small Island StateDirections: Write a composition based on the following graph. The composition should be entitled "Population of a Small Island State."From the diagram, we can see that between 1900 and 1950, the population of the state remained a little less than 200,000. Since 1951 it has been increasing rapidly. In the past four decades, the population has gone up by over three times. There are several reasons for the increase. Firstly, the open policy being carried out in the state has enabled many foreign labourers to work there. Secondly, the beautiful scenery of the small island has attracted many tourists and some of them have been permitted to settle there. In addition, the government may not have realized the necessity of controlling population. If this trend continues, it is no doubt that the small state will suffer from various kinds of problems caused by overpopultion, such as lack of land resources, food shortage and traffic congestion. Therefore, actions should be taken to control the increase of the population.16. Changes in College Students' WaysofSpending Summer VacationOutline:(1) state the changes briefly(2) give possible reasons for the changes(3) predict the trend of changesCollege Students' Ways of Spending Summer VacationA. staying at homeB. travelingC. doing social investigationD. other waysFrom the two charts, we can see that in the past ten years the number of students who go travelling or do social investigation during summer vacation has increased greatly while that of those whostay at home has decreased a lot. There are several reasons for the changes. Firstly, with the development of economy, many people have become rich. Students can get financial support from their parents for travelling. Secondly, tourism has greatly developed over the past ten years. Many new scenic spots have been built. In addition, the open policy has brought in from some other countries some harmful ideas on politics and thus aroused among college students some false opinions about China, so the government has been encouraging college students to do investigations on the rapid development in both urban and rural areas. From the changes in the charts, we can predict that more and more college students will make their summer vacation interesting and meaningful by going to the outside world instead of staying at home.17. My View on FateThere is no consensus of opinions among people as to the view of fate. Some people believe that everyone is born to a certain fate that he can not change, while some other people think that every man is the master of his own life.As far as I am concerned, I agree with the latter opinion. There is a saying, "Everyone is the architect of his own future," which means one's fate is decided in his own hands. In fact, no one is destined to a certain fate in his or her life. Those who claim that they were born to fail or be unlucky just can't realize how much inner strength and ability they have. We must depend on ourselves to change our lives and make us successful and happy.Let's take Hellen Keller, an extraordinary American woman, forexample. When she was only 19 months old, she became blind and deaf. Instead of accepting her misfortune helplessly, she showed great courage and unconquerable spirit in fighting against her destined fate and was awarded the President's Medal of Freedom in 1964 because of the achievements she had made for helping the blind, the deaf and the speechless. This story tells us that a wise man is always creating his own fate rather than waiting for good luck.In conclusion, I believe that everyone is born equal and is the builder of his own fate. We can have good fortune only if we take pains and work hard. We should bear the following saying in mind, "Every man is the master of his own fate."18. My View on WealthThere is no consensus of opinionsamong people as to the view of wealth. Some people claim that wealth is the most powerful and important thing in life, while some other people believe that there are many things that can not be bought with wealth. As far as I am concerned, I agree with the latter opinion. Just as an old saying goes "Money can cure hunger, but it can't cure sadness," which means wealth can buy us some material things but can not make us happy and free from sadness and worries. In fact, happiness, true love, friendship, time, health are the most valuable things in the world and can never be bought with money. Those who try every means to make money for nothing just can't realize the true meaning of life and become the slaves of wealth. We should not live for money and consider it to be everything. For example, a millionaire whosuffered from serious cancer was willing to buy his health at the expense of his whole fortune, but he failed and soon died in despair. This story tells us that money is far from omnipotence. In conclusion, I believe that money is not all powerful and there are some more important things that make our life meaningful and worth living. What we should bear in mind is that, "Money is a good servant but a bad master."19. My View on the Negative Effects ofFilmsNowadays, people constantly find themselves exposed to various films. Films are indeed necessary to people. But some of the films really have negative effects on our life. The negative effects of these films are obvious. Some films are misleading. Forexample, some contain violence. The children like to imitate what they see in the films. So they are more likely to commit a crime when they grow up. Some films bring spiritual contamination. For instance, vulgar scenes sometimes appear in the films. Thus people's daily life is affected by the negative films. Therefore a strict law should be issued to keep the films under proper control. Under the guidance of this law, I think, films will play a better and better role in the future.20. Advantages of AdvertisementAdvertisement is an effective way for the producer to introduce his products and the customer to know about the products he intends to buy. It is advantageous to both the producer and the customer. The producer, in an advertisement, usually offers detailed information about the products advertised, such as their good quality, their cheap price and their popularity. As a result, the products may sell well and the producer may benefit a lot.For the customer, advertisements provide him a good chance to get necessary information about the products he needs. For example, he can know where to get what he is badly in need of, and he can choose some products to his liking. Without advertisements people might have to grope in the dark.So we can safely say that advertisements are necessary and beneficial to both the producer and the customer. In fact, there are many things to be said for it. And I haven't said them all.21. Should Smoking be Banned?Should smoking be banned? Answers to this question very greatly. Some people are in favor of the idea of smoking. They always insist that it can get rid of the tiredness and make them refreshed. And giving and being given cigarettes in their views is a sign of friendship. Therefore, they carry cigarettes with them wherever they go.But other people consider it very harmful to people's health. They have heard the official reports that one person in the world dies from smoking every second. And doctors have been warning that smokers are more likely to have lung cancer and stand more chances of having heart attack. In addition, smoking pollutes the air and may cause fire accidents. Thus it has become a major threat to people's life and property. There is some truth in both arguments, but human's life and property outweighsanything else. If smoking brings us illness and death, why not have it banned by the government? Without cigarettes, can't we come up with better ways to express our friendship and make us refreshed?22. Is Television a Blessing or a Curse? Now, it is generally accepted that television plays an important part in people's lives. But there is an ongoing heated discussion as to whether television is a blessing or a curse. As is often pointed out by some people, television keeps one better informed about current events, allows one to follow the latest development in politics and science, and offers and endless series of programs which are both instructive and interesting. The most distant countries, the strangest customs and the most attractive scenes of nature are brought right intoone's room. However, other people insist that television is a curse rather than a blessing. They argue that it has brought about many serious problems. The major one is its effects on young people. They are now so used to getting their information, education and entertainment from television that their literacy as well as physical ability has been greatly weakened. Even worse than that, vulgar commercials and indecent programs may cultivate their bad tastes, distort their viewpoints towards human life to such a degree that their minds might be corrupted. In summary, television has both advantages and disadvantages. Whatever effects it has, one thing is certain, television in itself is neither good nor bad. It is the use to which it is put that determines its value to society.23. Getting to Know the World Outsidethe CampusIt is important for college students to get to know as much as possible about the world outside the campus. One reason is that knowledge without practical experience is just like trying to walk on one leg. Another reason is that maintaining contact with the world outside the campus helps the student become mature and responsible. There are many ways in which a student can get to know about the outside world. First, the mass media can keep the student up to date on political, cultural and sporting events, as well as the latest development in science and technology. Second, voluntary social services, home tutoring and surveys of factories or farms all offer students wide opportunities to get to know how ordinary people live.Personally, I intend to study hard to lay solid foundation for my future career. At the same time, I will take every opportunity to gain experience about the world beyond the campus by doing part-time jobs.24. Getting to Know the World Outsidethe CampusWith the development of our society, the campus should no longer be an "Ivory Tower". It is necessary for college students to go outside to get to know the world. They should acquire knowledge not only from books but also from the society. Thus they can adapt to society more quickly after graduate from school.Science and technology are developing rapidly with each passing day. Most students can keep themselves informed by watching TV, listening to theradio, reading newspapers and using computers. It's also good to take a part-time job, such as tutoring, or working in a restaurant. Any of these methods will enable students to get in touch with society.Summer vacation will soon be here. I've already enrolled to be a volunteer to help others. I think I can do well. Although I won't be paid, the most important thing is that I can learn a lot about society.25. Practice Makes PerfectPractice is the key to success in all fields of activity. It is practice alone that enables us to build up speed and efficiency. When we accomplish something perfectly without wasting effort, this is the result of long practice.Take the study of English for example. Only practice can enable us to spell wordscorrectly and master the rules of grammar. And it is also through practice that we can become fluent in speaking and writing, there is no other way. Another good example is sports. Practice is the only way to become stronger and run faster. Besides, in team games practice is what improves our sense of cooperation and helps the team to win.To sum up, there can be no achievement which is not based on a solid foundation of practice.26. My Most Favorite ProgramChina Central Television (CCTV) today offers a great variety of programs to satisfy different needs and tastes. For example, the weather forecast is of special interest to farmers. For another example, the concert program appeals greatly to music lovers. The sports world attractslarge numbers of sports fans. My most favorite TV program, however, is the news network. The news network has several points that are worth mentioning, as far as its contents and features are concerned. For one thing, it covers news about important events at home and abroad. Besides, the news it provides is timely and reliable. Finally, broadcast in the evening during the so-called "golden time", the news network program reaches a wide range of audience. As for me, I like the program chiefly for two reasons. One is that it keeps me informed of the state of the nation and the world at large, which is essential to a college student. The other reason is that, since the news covers a comprehensive area and is fairly brief, it saves me much time from reading other newspapers for current affairs. In short, watching the newsnetwork on CCTV has become an indispensable part of my daily life.27. Advantages of a Job InterviewYou may have a job interview first if you want to get a good job before graduation. For an interviewer, he may have a lot of interviewees to choose, and for an interviewee, he may also have many jobs to choose. Therefore, both the interviewer and interviewee should be careful about their decision. It is only through the interview that both of them can know more about each other. On the one hand, the interviewer will make the interviewee know something about the job such as the property, the working conditions, salary, welfare, and ect. He may also ask the interviewee the reasons of applying for the job in order to know what he is. All these will help the。

大学英语四级作文阅读材料汇总(doc 11页)1.1. 学生给老师打分已经普遍2. 人们对其持不同态度3. 我的看法Students’ Rating of Their TeachersNowadays, it has become as common in colleges and universities for students to grade teachers as for teachers to grade students.

Opinions are divided over the matter. Those who are in favor of living alone maintain that it is very convenient to live by themselves. They can enjoy absolute freedom in a room of their own. They can have their own timetable without disturbing others. They are also free to equip the room with a personal computer so that they can have easy access to the Internet. But others argue that living with roommates has attractions of its own. With several students sharing the same room, each person’s experiences can be greatly enriched. They can learn a lot from talking to one another. By learning to tolerate the differences between individuals, they can become more mature.A sound solution to the problem requires efforts on both society and the students. The companies should value the students, talent and knowledge while the latter should not merely aim at material gains. They should be down-to–earth in building up their career. Furthermore, they should face their weak points so as to improve themselves and be more competent.5.1.在现代社会,城市交通问题变得越来越严重2.城市交通问题的表现以及对人们生活的影响3.解决的方法与措施Traffic JamThere is no doubt that traffic congestion becomes a growing worry for the residents of most urban areas. 也可改为:How can we solve the headache? )The existing solutions to traffic jam mainly aim at creating metro bus systems and broadening major roads.
