Thepeelings, residue, and vapors of paint may contain lead, whichis poisonous. Exposure to even low levels of lead can causeirreversible brain and nervous system damage. Young andunborn children are particularly vulnerable. Before beginning any paint removal process you should determine whether the paint you are removing contains lead. This can be done by your local health department or by a professional who uses a paint analyzer to check for lead. Lead-based paint should only be removed by a professional.Persons removing paint should follow these guidelines:1.Keep the work area well ventilated.Open the windows and put an exhaust fan in one of them. Be sure the fan is moving air from inside to outside.2.Remove or cover any carpets, rugs, furniture, clothing, cooking utensils, and air ducts.Such preventive safety measures reduce the risk of exposure.3.Place drop cloths in the work area to catch any paint chips or peelings. Wear protective clothing such as extra work shirts, overalls and hats.Such preventive safety measures reduce the risk of exposure.4.Work in one room at a time.Furnishings should be removed or placed in the center of the room and covered. Work areas should be sealed off from the rest of the dwelling by sealing doorways with drop cloths.5.Children, pregnant, or potentially pregnant women and nursing mothers should not be present in the work area until the work is done and all cleanup is complete.Such preventive safety measures reduce the risk of injury.6.Wear a dust respirator or a dual filter (dust and fume) respirator mask which has been approved by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), the National Institute of Safety and Health (NIOSH), or the United States Bureau of Mines. These masks and replaceable filters are readily available at major hardware stores. Be sure the mask fits. Beards and facial hair may keep the masks from sealing properly. Change filters often. DISPOSABLE PAPER MASKS ARE NOT ADEQUATE.7.Keep food and drink out of the work area.Wash hands, arms, and face and rinse mouth before eating or drinking. Do not smoke or chew gum or tobacco in the work area.8.Clean up all removed paint and dust by wet mopping the floors. Wipe shoes off with a wet rag, then wash that rag with the work clothes. Wash hair and body thoroughly with soap and water.SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS!MOTORMany Porter-Cable tools will operate on either D.C., or single phase 25 to 60 cycle A.C. current and voltage within plus or minus 5 percent of that shown on the specification plate on the tool. Several models, however, are designed for A.C. current only. Refer to the specification plate on your tool for proper voltage and current rating.Do not operate your tool on a current on which the voltage is notwithin correct limits. Do not operate tools rated A.C. only on D.C.current. To do so may seriously damage the tool.EXTENSION CORD SELECTIONIf an extension cord is used, make sure the conductor size is large enough to prevent excessive voltage drop which will cause loss of power and possible motor damage. A table of recommended extension cord sizes will be found in this section. This table is based on limiting line voltage drop to 5 volts (10 volts for 230 volts) at 150% of rated amperes. If an extension cord is to be used outdoors it must be marked with the suffix W-A or W following the cord type designation. For example – SJTW-A to indicate it is acceptable for outdoor use.SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS!FOREWORDYour Porter-Cable Finishing Sander is equipped to accept Stikit™ adhesive backed abrasives (41/2" width) or conventional abrasive sheets (41/2" x 51/2").This Sander is suitable for coarse, medium or fine sanding of wood, plaster, metal and plastics. It is ideal for leveling wallboard joints, finishing cabinets, rubbing and polishing furniture, fitting screens and doors and for general finishing work in the shop.NOTE:This tool is shipped completely assembled. No assembly time or tools are required.ABRASIVE ATTACHMENT TOOL IS REQUIRED- Wrench (furnished)SELECTING THE RIGHT ABRASIVE SHEETBy selecting the proper type of abrasive, the finest finishes can be attained. In general, coarser grit sizes will remove the most material and finer grit sizes will produce the best finishes.Naturally, in all sanding operations, best results will be obtained if you select the proper size and type of abrasives. Only garnet, aluminum oxide and silicon carbide are recommended for use with finishing sanders. Flint paper is not satisfactory for machine sanding, due to its weak structure. Before starting to work, make sure you have the right abrasive for the material on which the sander is to be used. Make sure you use the correct size abrasive paper or cloth. Cut, do not tear, the abrasive sheets to size.ATTACHING STIKIT™ ABRASIVEStikit™ abrasives (ten yard rolls) and a convenient dispenser are available from your Porter-Cable distributor. To install Stikit™ abrasive, cut a 41/8" long piece of abrasive from roll, align abrasive with sander pad and press in place as shown in Fig. 1.To remove, lift one corner of abrasive with fingernail and peel off. ATTACHING CONVENTIONAL ABRASIVEDisconnect tool from power source.1.Insert small end of wrench, furnished with sander, into slot (A), Fig. 2, with hump of the wrench in up position, and press wrench toward sander housing to open clamp.2.Slip one end of abrasive sheet under clamp, stretch sheet tight over pad, open rear clamp with wrench and slip free end of abrasive sheet under rear clamp.TO START AND STOP SANDERMake sure switch (A), Fig. 3, is in “OFF”position.1.Make sure power source voltage is the same as specified on the sander’s specification plate.2.Insert cord plug into power source outlet.3.While holding sander firmly and off of work surface, slide switch (A), Fig.3, to the “ON”position.4.Allow sander to reach full speed. Set it down on the work evenly andmove it slowly back and forth in wide overlapping arcs (see SANDING PROCEDURE section of this manual).5.When you are finished sanding, lift sander up off work and slide switch(A), Fig. 3, to the “OFF”position to stop sander.SANDING PROCEDUREThe Porter-Cable Finishing Sander has been designed for one-hand operation (Fig.3). Because it is light in weight, vibration-free and perfectly balanced, the sander can be easily guided over the work surface with one hand. The normal weight of the machine is sufficient for efficient sanding.Do not put additional pressure on the machine. This would only slow down the speed of the pad, reducing the sanding efficiency and put an additional burden on the motor. In addition, it might cause the sander to jump on the work. Let the sander do the work.OPERATIONFig. 1Fig. 2AFig. 3AFINE FINISHINGThe action of the Porter-Cable Finishing Sander causes thousands of tiny abrasive grits to move in circular orbits against the work at high speed. Each grain moves in the same direction at a constant speed so the cutting action is uniform over the entire pad surface. Crossing and re-crossing of the abrasive grits from all directions quickly levels surface irregularities to a fine, uniform smoothness. Start the work with an abrasive grit just coarse enough to remove the high spots and excessive roughness. Follow with a second sanding using a grit one or two grades finer. Continue with successively finer grits until the desired finish is obtained. DO NOT GO FROM A COARSE GRIT TO A VERY FINE GRIT IN ONE STEP.Going from a coarse grit to a very fine grit in one step could make it difficult to remove swirl marks that might have been made by the coarse grit abrasive. Use the finest grits practical for the roughing operation and then finish by using successively finer grits.REMOVING PAINT AND VARNISHRead and follow all instructions in the ADDITIONAL SAFETY RULES FOR PAINT REMOVAL section of this manual.Your sander will do a good job of removing old paint and varnish if two precautions are taken. First, be sure to use a coarse, open coat abrasive to avoid the usual clogging of the abrasive surfaces. Second keep the machine moving over new areas to avoid heating and softening the material being removed. Try to work the entire surface down at the same time by working in wide, overlapping arcs. Do not concentrate on small areas. If liquid removers or heaters are used to speed the work, be sure the surface is cool and dry and the excess material has been scraped away with a putty knife or other suitable scraping tool before applying the sander.CABINETS AND DOORSThe orbital motion of the Porter-Cable Finishing Sander is ideally suited for finishing doors, cabinet fronts and other installations where wood grain is often perpendicular to that of a joining piece. Since the motion is circular, the machine may be moved in any direction and crossed from one part to the other without regard to direction of grain. A uniform and smooth finish will result on both parts. The same procedure may be used when evening joints in all types of cabinet work. The sander may be worked on both sides and in all directions to obtain a smooth, matching joint. By properly changing from coarser to finer grit abrasives, an excellent finish will result.RUBBING AND POLISHINGThe finishing sander is excellent for all types of polishing and rubbing on flat or round surfaces. Felt rubbing pads, available as accessory equipment can be quickly attached for rubbing operations. With it, metal parts, enameled surfaces and woodwork may be polished. Use rouge or paste wax for polishing with the finishing sander.KEEP TOOL CLEANPeriodically blow out all air passages with dry compressed air. All plastic parts should be cleaned with a soft damp cloth. NEVER use solvents to clean plastic parts. They could possibly dissolve or otherwise damage the material.Wear ANSI Z87.1 safety glasses while using compressed air.FAILURE TO STARTShould your tool fail to start, check to make sure the prongs on the cord plug are making good contact in the outlet. Also, check for blown fuses or open circuit breakers in the line.LUBRICATIONThis tool has been lubricated with a sufficient amount of high grade lubricant for the life of the unit under normal operating conditions. No further lubrication is necessary.BRUSH INSPECTION (If applicable)For your continued safety and electrical protection, brush inspection and replacement on this tool should ONLY be performed by an AUTHORIZED PORTER-CABLE SERVICE STATION or a PORTER-CABLE•DELTA FACTORY SERVICE CENTER.At approximately 100 hours of use, take or send your tool to your nearest authorized Porter-Cable Service Station to be thoroughly cleaned and inspected. Have worn parts replaced and lubricated with fresh lubricant. Have new brushes installed, and test the tool for performance.Any loss of power before the above maintenance check may indicate the need for immediate servicing of your tool. DO NOT CONTINUE TO OPERATE TOOL UNDER THIS CONDITION. If proper operating voltage is present, return your tool to the service station for immediate service.。

The pressuremeasurement of the PTB330 is based on the Vaisala in-house, silicon Vaisala BAROCAP ® Digital Barometer PTB330 with a new trend display.capacitive, absolute pressure sensor- the Vaisala BAROCAP ® Sensor. Itprovides high measurement accuracyand excellent long-term stability.Highly AccurateThe PTB330 series is highly accurate. The Class A barometers for themost demanding applications arefine-tuned and calibrated against ahigh-precision pressure calibrator.Class B barometers are adjusted andcalibrated using electronic workingstandard. All the PTB330 barometerscome with a NIST traceable, factorycalibration certificate.Reliability through RedundancyAccording to customers’ choice, thePTB330 can incorporate one, twoor three BAROCAP ® sensors. Whentwo or three sensors are used, the barometer continuously compares the readings of the pressure sensors Features/Benefits ▪Vaisala BAROCAP® sensor ▪Accurate measurement ▪Excellent long-term stability ▪Added reliability through redundancy ▪Graphical trend display with 1-year history data ▪Height and altitude corrected pressure (QFE, QNH)▪For professional meteorology and aviation, laboratories, demanding industrial applications against one another and provides information on whether these are within the set internal difference criteria. This unique feature provides redundancy in pressure measurement. Thus, users also get a stable and reliable pressure reading at all times as well as a pre-indication of when to service or recalibrate the barometer.QNH and QFE The PTB330 can be set to compensate for QNH and QFE pressure used especially in aviation. The QNH represents the pressure reduced to sea level, based on the altitude and temperature of the observation site. The QFE represents the height corrected pressure of small differences in altitude, for example, the air pressure at the airfield elevation.Graphical Display The PTB330 features a multi-lingual, graphical display allowing users to monitor measurement trends. The graph is updated automatically while measuring and it provides a one-year measurement history. In addition to instant pressure, the PTB330 also provides the WMO pressure trend and tendency codes.Applications The PTB330 can be used successfully for aviation, professional meteorology, and for demanding industrial pressure measurement applications such as accurate laser interferometric measurement and exhaust gas analysis in engine testbenches.Ref.
