The Coming of Christianity
• Time: Christianity（基督教） was introduced into Ireland in the 5th century. • Origin: Traditionally it was said to have been brought by Saint Patrick.（圣帕特里克节） • Popularity: By the time of Saint Patrick’s death in 461 AD, the whole island was effectively Christian.
The Middle Ages
• The 11th and 12th centuries are regarded as the progress in Ireland as the Viking did much to develop commerce in medieval Ireland . • The Normans arrived in 1167-69. • During the 13th century, the Normans were the first to attempt to impose on Ireland a centralized administrative . • The Norman rule in Ireland failed in 1315, the native Irish won the cultural war.
• Influence: It was though the monasteries that Irish influence on Britain and Europe was exerted from the 6th century onward. Setting out first as pilgrims, Irish monks preached the gospel and established new communities across the continent.
The second wave of arrivers
• They reached Ireland around 1200BC. • They built on the achievements of the present inhabitants, producing more sophisticated weapons and artifacts. • They also developed a distinctive kind of settlements.
1.With the language, the Celts brought an instruments of social and cultural unity to the island, which transcended political and social divisions.
2.Along with their language, the Celts also brought a legal system.

• The earliest settlers—hunters arrived around 7000BC in the middle Stone Age period. • Rival colonialists of the Neolithic, farmers who raised animals and cultivated the soil, reached Ireland around 3000BC. • Prospectors and metalworkers arrived around 2000BC.
