Among the various subjects, English remains a pivotal component, often serving as a barometer of students' comprehension, critical thinking, and language skills. The third simulation paper, specifically, presents a unique set of challenges that students must overcome to ensure a successful performance.Firstly, the English section of this simulation paper is notable for its diversity and depth. It covers a wide range of topics, from contemporary issues to classic literature, demanding that students possess a broad knowledge base. This breadth of content requires students to stay updated with current affairs and to have a solid understanding of historical and cultural references. Additionally, the depth of the questions tests students' ability to analyze and interpret complex texts, making itessential for them to develop strong reading comprehension skills.Secondly, the simulation paper emphasizes theimportance of critical thinking. The questions are designed to probe students' understanding of the material beyond the surface level. They require students to evaluate arguments, identify biases, and draw inferences from the text. This aspect of the paper challenges students to think critically and analytically, rather than merely regurgitating facts or opinions. Moreover, the English section of the simulation paper also highlights the significance of language skills. Students are expected to demonstrate proficiency in grammar, vocabulary, and writing. The questions assess their ability to use language accurately and effectively, whether it's through written responses or essay writing. This aspect underscores the importance of continuous practice and refinement of language skills. To prepare effectively for this simulation paper, students should adopt a multi-faceted approach. Firstly, they should establish a regular reading habit, focusing ona variety of texts to broaden their knowledge base. This will help them familiarize themselves with different styles and genres, enhancing their comprehension abilities.Secondly, students should engage in critical thinking exercises. They can practice analyzing arguments, evaluating evidence, and drawing conclusions from texts. This will prepare them to handle the more complex questions that require deep analysis and evaluation.Lastly, students should focus on honing their language skills. They can work on improving their grammar and vocabulary through practice exercises and regular writing. Additionally, they can seek feedback from teachers or peers to identify and correct any linguistic errors in their writing. In conclusion, the 2024 NCEE English Simulation Paper 3 presents a comprehensive test of students' academic abilities. It challenges them to demonstrate a broad knowledge base, critical thinking skills, and proficiencyin language use. By adopting a structured and focused approach to preparation, students can overcome these challenges and emerge victorious in this crucial exam.。

ADo you continue to be healthy in social isolation? NASA is looking for people to spend 8 months locked in a Russian lab for a new experiment. When humans go to the moon and travel to Mars, they will need to be prepared for long-term space travel and even longer stays on these far-off destinations. Currently, NASA's Artemis program aims to land humans on the moon for the first time since NASA's Apollo 17 mission landed in 1972.While the moon is the main goal of NASA's Artemis program, the agency's larger goal is to send people to Mars. But long-term space travel and habitation won't be easy. Such missions will present both physical and mental challenges as astronauts work to not only survive, but perform important scientific research in uniquely difficult environments. In the upcoming NASA-Russia experiment, a group of people will live in a closed facility at Russia's Institute for Biomedical Problems, which is in Moscow. This habitat facility was used in2011 for notable series of Russian mock (模拟的) Mars missions known as Mars 500. During these missions, groups of people spent 520 and 105 days on two separate missions in the facility. The facility, according to the statement, will have "environmental factors similar to those astronauts are expected to experience on future missions to Mars". The group of people will spend 8 months living together in isolation and working on scientific research.By living and working in this Mars-like environment, participants in this study will help NASA researchers better understand the psychological and physiological (心理和生理的) effects of isolation. These missions help researchers not only perform relevant science experiments but also see how people might get on under strange conditions for long periods of time. So, if you're finding that living in social isolation works for you, you might be particularly well-suited for living in a Mars-like environment and this could be for you. But first, you have to qualify. NASA is looking for "highly motivated" Americans between the ages of 30-55, who must speak both Russian and English fluently and have a Master of Science, Doctor of Philosophy, Doctor of Medicine, or military officer training. Applicants with other related experience may also be considered. Those who are chosen to be a part of this group will be paid for their work.1.What do we know about the new experiment?A.It will find the best way for humans to live on Mars.B.It is the first of its kind to be carried out since 1972.C.It is prepared for NASA's human spaceflight program.D.It will decide the people to be sent to the moon by NASA.2.Why does the author mention "Mars 500" in the text?A.To explain why the facility has been chosen.B.To compare the similarities among related missions.C.To show Russia's achievement in space exploration.D.To indicate the new experiment will have great success.3.What is Paragraph 6 mainly about?A.The process of the experiment. B.The purposes of the experiment.C.The popularity of the experiment. D.The preparations for the experiment.4.Which can be a suitable title for the text?A.Artemis: NASA's new program B.Love isolation? NASA wants you!C.NASA's Mars exploration program D.Want to have a trip to Mars? Come!BEveryone has a phone in their pocket nowadays, but how often do we really use them for their original purpose-to make a call? Telephone culture is disappearing. What brought us to this moment, and what are its effects?“No one picks up the phone anymore,” wrote Alex C.Madrigal on The Atlantic. The reflex of answering-centu20th—telephonic culture—is gone.”The shift is of course due in large part to more communication options: Texting with photos, videos, emojis, reaction gifs, links and even voice messages can be a more attractive option.Texting is light and fun, not nearly as demanding of your attention as a phone call. It can also be done with multiple people at the same time. Social media, email and video calls have also eaten away at traditional phone calls. In recent years, another reason has caused people to ignore phone calls completely: robocalls. Robocalls are automate messages from organizations verifying your phone number or telemarketers trying to sell something. Americans received 22.8 billion robocalls halfway through 2020, equaling an annual rate of 45.6 billion, slightly below 2018 numbers, according to YouMail, a robocall protection service and blocking app.As telephone culture disappears, what is the loss of a singular family phone doing to the family unit? Early landline phones unified family members, whereas mobile phones isolate them.“The shared family phone served as an anchor for home,” said Luke Fernandez, a Weber State Un iversity computer-science professor and co-author of Bored, Lonely, Angry, Stupid: Feelings About Technology, From the Telegraph to Twitter. “With smartphones we have gained mobility and privacy. But the value of the home has been diminished, as has its ability to guide and monitor family behavior and perhaps connect families more closely,” Fernandez said.Of course, as technology progresses, lives always change for better or for worse. With the loss of telephone culture, families will need to find other ways to unite.5.What's the purpose of the passage?A.To point out the disadvantages of the traditional phone call.B.To call for the traditional phone to advance with the times.C.To encourage people to make more phone calls and be closer to family.D.To introduce the causes and effects of the disappearing telephone culture.6.What can we learn from the passage?A.The telephone culture disappeared just because of too many robocalls.B.Early landline phones are inconvenient and they separate family members.C.Some communication options are more attractive than the traditional phone call.D.Texting with multiple people at the same time takes up our attention too much.7.What does the underlined word “diminished” in Paragraph 7 probably mean?A.Changed B.Decreased C.Strengthened D.Continued8.What's the author's attitude to the effects of the disappearing telephone culture?A.Supportive. B.Opposed. C.Objective. D.Skeptical.CWith exams just around the corner, now is a good time to explore some of UCL’s lesser-known study spaces and get down to some revision. Here are some good choices for you.UCL Senate House HubUCL Senate House Hub opened in 2015 and provides 144 study spaces. What’s more, you can check how many spaces are available online before you head to the place. Located on the 3rd floor of the South Block of Senate House, the center has room for individual and group study in traditional library spaces, as well as armchairs and wi-fi coverage.UCL Eastman Dental LibraryThe newly redecorated UCL Eastman Dental Library is located halfway along Gray's Inn Road and is open from Monday to Friday, 9:00am 800pm. The library has 72 study spaces, and many ITfacilities(equipment with access to the Internet). The library also has a study room for meetings and a computer cluster room with a whiteboard.UCL Language & Speech Science LibraryUCL Language & Speech Science Library(LASS)has disabled access and has recently been decorated to add extra study spaces. With only 49 spaces, LASS is smaller than most other UCL libraries and tends to fill up quickly, so get there early to avoid disappointment.Senate House LibraryThis one may be cheating as the Senate House Library is not technically a UCL library. However, all UCL students and staff can register for free membership online. With millions of books and journals, Senate House Library offers some places a little less used by UCL students but perfect for students who want to focus on some hard work.9.The four places are mainly introduced to someone who________.A.likes learning online B.prefers to study in widely-known librariesC.loves reading D.is preparing for exams10.What should students do online before they go to UCL Senate House Hub?A.Check whether there are available seats. B.Take the Membership Card.C.Make an appointment in advance. D.Check the library’s opening hours.11.How many libraries can offer Internet services?A.Four. B.One. C.Two. D.Three.DScientists have an unlikely new helper while exploring the Earth’s crust (地壳) deep beneath the ocean:Fin whales. New research, published Thursday in Science, finds these Fin whale calls ‘sound waves can help create images of the seafloor down to 2. 5 kilometers.Seafloor imaging, which is important for studying things like earthquake mechanics and carbon storage capacity, typically uses large air guns that send waves of sound downwards. The sound waves go through the crust and bounce back to instruments on the seafloor, carrying information about the structures they travel through. But such surveys are expensive, and the guns’ explosive noise may interrupt sea creatures that use sound to communicate.Vaclav Kuna, the study co-author, was studying earthquakes when he noticed strange readings on the seafloor seismic (地震的) instruments, which turned out to match the frequencies of fin whale calls. Whale songs often appear in such instruments’ records, says Emily Roland, a marine seismologist at the University of Washington. Seismologists usually see these signals as annoyance. Kuna, however, noticed that the signals were not coming directly from the whales, but were echoes(回声) bouncing back from within the crust. This technique does have limitations, Kuna says. Fin whale songs are limited in frequency, meaning the subsurface images are not as clear as those made with air guns. Additionally, are natively flat seafloor is needed to triangulate (作三角测量) the whales’ positions while multiple stations would be needed in uneven or mountainous regions, he adds.Nevertheless, these whales are found almost everywhere except the ice-covered areas of the Arctic. The whale calls ’wide existence means they could provide new insight into old seismic datasets, Roland says. “At least the whale songs can serve as an additional source of signals. They are free and they are always there,” Kuna says. “It’s a win-win. ”12.What do we know about seafloor imaging in Paragraph 2?A.It may affect some sea animals. B.It can help predict earthquakes.C.It is nod completely accurate. D.It is environmentally-friendly.13.What can we infer about fin whale calls?A.They can help scientists to locate their habitats.B.They ares easy to record and measure in the ocean.C.They are likely to be used for seafloor imaging.D.They have different frequencies among fin whales.14.What is the potential use of fin whale songs?A.Conveying messages between whales. B.Working as an extra source of signals.C.Providing useful insights into whales. D.Exploring the ice-covered areas of the Arctic. 15.What is the best title for the text?A.Fin Whale Calls Reveal Structure beneath Ocean FloorB.Fin Whales Communicate by Singing Special SongsC.Fin Whale Conservation Is a Win-win Move for AllD.Seafloor Imaging Helps to Locate More Resources第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分, 满分12.5分)根据短文内容, 从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。

2024普通高校招生仿真模拟卷英语三

2024普通高校招生仿真模拟卷英语三

2024普通高校招生仿真模拟卷英语三全文共6篇示例,供读者参考篇1The 2024 College Test Was Crazy Hard!Hi everyone! My name is Timmy and I'm in 5th grade. A few weeks ago, my parents made me take this giant test that was supposed to be for getting into college. Can you believe that? A college test for a little kid! My parents said it would be "good practice" for when I'm older, but I think they just wanted to torture me.The test had four sections - math, reading, writing, and English. The math part wasn't too bad since I'm pretty good at arithmetic. There were some tricky word problems though about trains leaving the station and stuff. Why do all math questions have to be about trains??The reading section was really long and boring. We had to read all these dusty old passages and answer questions about them. One story was about some guys sailing across the ocean in the 1700s. Who cares about that boring stuff? I just wanted toget up and run around. Another passage was about the life cycle of bees. Yeah, thanks, I already learned that in 3rd grade! Then we had to do an essay for the writing part. The prompt asked us to describe our favorite person. So I wrote three paragraphs about my dog Rufus and how he's the cutest, fluffiest pup in the whole world. He's way better than those lame prompt ideas about historical figures or books. I really hope I get points for creativity! But by far, the worst part was the English section at the end. It was titled "English Part III" which made no sense to me. Isn't English just English? Who decided there needs to be parts? This English section was full of all these grammar rules I've never heard of before. Identifying appositives? Using correct verb tenses? Parallel structure? It just kept going with more and more confusing terms. There were all these boring sentences, and we had to pick which one was the "best" way to write it. They all sounded the same to me! For example:"John is the goofy boy who lives next door.""John, the goofy boy, lives next door.""The goofy boy, John, lives next door."Who cares which one is "best"? They all say the same thing! This is the type of stuff that makes my brain hurt. Then there were passages with blank spaces, and we had to pick words to go in each blank. It was impossible because the passages didn't make any sense! Here's an example:"The _______ oil tycoon made his fortune in Texas cattle ranches, but his ________ spending habits resulted in bankruptcy within a decade. His _______ friends tried to ________ his lavish lifestyle, but their attempts were in _______."What is this even talking about? How am I supposed to know what words go in there? It could be about a million different things!By the end of that english section, my head was spinning. All the wordiness and grammar rules just felt like torture. I survived by zoning out and just filling in random circles when I got too confused. After I turned in my test, I rewarded myself by going home and playing video games for 6 hours straight. No more college tests for me! I'll stick to kid stuff like dodgeball and recess. If English tests in college are really that hard, I'm not sure I want to go anymore! Maybe I'll just become a pro video gamestreamer instead. That seems like a way easier gig than having to know obscure grammar terms.Well, that's my rant about the totally unfair college test I had to take as a 10-year-old. I feel better after venting! Let me know if any of you have also suffered through one of those excruciating English sections. Hopefully by the time we're older, they'll make the tests a little more..umm...what's the word? Ah yes, coherent! Stay silly my friends!篇2The 2024 College Admission Test ThingyHey there! My name is Tommy and I'm 10 years old. I just took this really big test called the 2024 College Admission Simulation Thingy. My parents and teachers kept talking about how super important it was, so I wanted to tell you all about it!First off, we had to wake up crazy early on test day - like before the sun was even up! My mom made me a big breakfast with scrambled eggs, toast, and orange juice to "fuel my brain". Then we headed off to my elementary school where the test was being held. When we got there, the hallways were packed with kids of all ages - from little squirts like me all the way up to high school seniors. Everyone looked really nervous, even the teachers! We had to line up outside our assigned classrooms and wait to be called in. Finally, the teachers started letting us in one by one after checking our identification and test admission tickets. The test room looked just like my normal classroom, except they had covered the walls with blank paper so we couldn't cheat off any posters or maps. We each got a little desk cubby thing with enough space for our test booklets, pencils, calculators, and snacks. The tests were separated into different subject booklets - there was one for math, one for reading, one for science, and one for writing and language. The math booklet had some super hard questions that I couldn't even read properly! There were algebra problems that looked like alphabet soup, bizarre geometry shapes I had never seen before, and numbers that just would not stop. Fractions, decimals, you name it - the math test had it all. I just bubbled in my best guesses and tried not to panic. After math was the reading test, which actually wasn't too bad for me. There were passages about science topics, historical events, literature excerpts, and even some fun fiction stories. Ihad to answer comprehension questions and analyze the author's perspective and writing style. As a total bookworm, I felt pretty confident about that section.Science was definitely the weirdest test though! They asked us to look at data tables, experiments, diagrams, and models, then explain observations and make predictions. A lot of it was about things I had never learned before, like genetics, physics, and anatomy. I just had to really use my thinking cap and take my best guesses based on the information given.Last but not least was the writing and language section. We had to read some passages and correct grammatical errors by revising phrases. We also had to write a whole essay analyzing an argument from different perspectives. I'm a pretty good writer, so I enjoyed getting creative with the essay even if the prompt was on a boring topic.By the end, my brain felt like a wet noodle from concentrating so hard all day! My hand was crazy sore from bubbling in 400+ answers. All the scratch paper was covered in my mad chicken-scratch writing and diagrams. When I walked out of that classroom, I felt like I had just ran a marathon! While I don't think I exactly aced the 2024 College Admission Simulation Test Thingy, I definitely gave it my best effort. Myparents said that's what really matters and that the test helps figure out what academic areas I need to work on. I'm just glad it's finally over so I can go outside and play!Taking big standardized tests may be stressful, but they help prepare you for bigger challenges down the road. Even though parts of it made my head spin, I know the experience will help me when it's time to apply to colleges and universities for real a few years from now. Tests like these are important stepping stones. So to all you other kids out there - don't sweat it if you struggled on this practice test! Just go in with a positive attitude, read carefully, never leave any bubbles blank, and always double check your work. You've got this! I believe in you.篇3The Big Test for Grown-Up SchoolWow, the big test for grown-up school is coming soon! My older sister Lily is studying really hard for it. She spends hours and hours every day with her nose buried in thick books and her head bent over notebooks. Sometimes she looks so stressed out that I worry her brain might explode!Mom and Dad keep telling her, "Lily, don't worry too much. You're so smart and you've been working so hard. We know you'll do great on the test." But Lily just frowns and says, "You don't understand. This test is everything. It decides my whole future!"I don't really get what the big deal is. It's just a test, right? We take tests all the time in my grade. Last week, we had a spelling test, and the week before that, we had a math test. Sure, I get a little nervous before tests, but I don't lose sleep over them like Lily does.I asked her to explain to me what's so important about this test she has to take. She sighed and said, "Okay, little bro, listen up. This test is called the College Entrance Exam. It's a huge deal because the score I get on it will determine which university I can go to.""What's a university?" I asked.Lily rolled her eyes like I was being really dumb. "A university is like a grown-up school. After you finish regular school, if you want to learn even more and get a really good job, you go to a university.""Oh," I said, still not really understanding why it was such a big thing. "But why does the test matter so much? Can't you just go to any university you want?"Lily shook her head. "No, it doesn't work like that. The best universities only accept students with the highest scores on the College Entrance Exam. If I don't score really well, I might not get into my dream school."I could see that this was really important to her, but I still didn't fully grasp why one test could decide her whole future. In my mind, the grown-up world seemed awfully complicated.A few days later, I was playing video games in the living room while Lily was studying at the kitchen table. I could hear her muttering to herself in English, which is one of the subjects on the big test."Lily, can you help me with this level?" I called out. "I'm stuck!""Not now, Tommy," she said, not looking up from her book. "I'm studying."I got up and went over to her, peering over her shoulder at the thick book filled with tiny words I could barely read. "What're you learning about?" I asked.Lily didn't seem to mind me interrupting her this time. Maybe she welcomed the break. "I'm reviewing some sample essays篇4The 2024 Mock University Entrance Exam for EnglishHi everyone! My name is Lily and I'm 10 years old. Today I'm going to tell you all about the big English test I had to take for getting into university in a few years. It was called the 2024 Mock University Entrance Exam for English. Wow, that's a really long name!My mom and dad said this test was really important for deciding what university I might be able to go to after high school. They wanted me to practice taking it so I could get ready for the real thing when I'm older. I was a little nervous, but also kind of excited to see what it would be like. The test had four sections - listening, reading, writing, and speaking. First up was the listening part. We had to put on headphones and listen to Different conversations and passages in English. Then we had to answer multiple choice questions about what we heard. Some of the accents were hard for me to understand at first, but I tried my best. After listening, we moved on to the reading section. This part had longer passages that we had to read and then answer questions on. The passages were about all kinds of different topics like science, history, culture, and more. I'm a pretty good reader, but some of the vocabulary was pretty advanced for a 10-year-old. I had to use my context clues to try and figure out what those bigger words meant.Next up was the writing section, which was one of the harder parts for me. We had to write a short essay of about 300 words on a certain topic that they gave us. The hard part was organizing all my thoughts and making sure my grammar was correct. My teacher says I have messy handwriting too, so I really had to focus to make it neat and readable for the test graders. The final section was the speaking part, which made me the most nervous! We had to go one-by-one into a room and speak answers to questions into a microphone for about 2-3 minutes per question. The test graders were right there watching and listening. I tried not to think about them too much and just imagined I was talking to my friend. I had to describe a scene from a picture, answer opinion questions, and summarize something I had read earlier in the test. Speaking practice at home with my parents really helped me for this part. When it was finally over after a few hours, I felt both relieved and tired! It was a long test but I gave it my best effort. The listening and reading parts went pretty well, but I'm not as confident about how I did on the writing and speaking. Crafting a good essay under time pressure is hard, and speaking smoothly in English for that long is really difficult for me still at 10 years old.Overall though, I'm glad I got to take this mock exam and get some practice in. It let me experience first-hand what the real university entrance exam will be like when I'm in high school. I have a few more years to keep studying and improving my English skills before then. Tests like this just motivate me to work harder. My parents said they were proud of me no matter how I scored, since I tried my best. As long as I keep practicing listening, reading, writing, and speaking in English as much as possible, I'll be ready to take on that big exam for real when the time comes. Who knows, maybe I'll even get a perfect score then! But for now, I'm just happy this practice test is done. Time for a well-deserved break to go play outside! Thanks for reading, goodbye!篇5My Super Awesome Summer VacationHi there! My name is Timmy and I just had the best summer vacation ever! I can't wait to tell you all about it.It started when school let out in June. My parents had promised to take me and my little sister Sarah on a big trip if we got good grades. I worked really hard all year and got straight A's, so I was super excited when they told us we were going to Hawaii! We left a few days after school ended. The airplane flight was really long but it was still pretty fun. I had a window seat so I could see outside, and the view of the clouds and the ocean far below was amazing. The food on the plane wasn't as good as my mom's cooking though. When we finally landed in Hawaii, it was like being in a whole new world. The air was so warm and humid, nothing like back home. As soon as we stepped outside the airport, we could smell the ocean and see tall palm trees everywhere. Our hotel was right on the beach too!The first couple days we just relaxed and enjoyed the hotel amenities. They had several huge pools, one with a waterslide that was epic! Sarah and I must have gone down it a hundredtimes. The beach was awesome too, with soft golden sand and crystal clear water that was the perfect temperature. We spent hours building sandcastles and splashing in the waves. On the third day, we went on a tour to see some of the big sights around the island of Oahu. Our guide drove us up into the mountains to see this awesome lookout point called the Nuuanu Pali. The cliffs there overlooked the most beautiful green valleys you can imagine. Our guide taught us that the valleys were actually dormant volcanic craters. Wild!Next we visited Pearl Harbor and saw the USS Arizona Memorial. That part was really somber and moving as we learned about the attack there during World War 2. Seeing the names of all the sailors who died etched into the white marble was very powerful. After that heavy experience, it was nice to move on to the Dole Pineapple Plantation. That place was a pineapple wonderland! We took a train tour through the fields learning about how pineapples grow. And at the end, we got to sample different pineapple treats like whipped pineapple ice cream and pineapple wine (just kidding, Sarah and I aren't old enough for wine yet). Everything was so sweet and delicious. The rest of the week we spent doing fun activities around Waikiki Beach near our hotel. One day we took a surfing lesson and I was able to stand up and ride a few small waves which was awesome! Another day we went snorkeling at Hanauma Bay and saw tons of colorful fish and coral. We also attended a big luau feast one evening which had hula dancers, a fire performer, and more delicious food than I could eat like kalua pork, poi, and haupia coconut pudding. On our very last day, my dad arranged for us to go on a morning helicopter tour of the whole island. Seeing the spiral blue Pacific Ocean meet the green mountains and valleys from the air was just breathtaking. The pilot pointed out places we had visited from up high and we could even see the hotels and beach of Waikiki in the distance. After that awesome aerial tour, it was time to pack up and head back to the airport for our flight home. I was really sad to leave Hawaii behind but so grateful to my parents for giving us such an amazing experience. Sarah and I both agreed it was the best summer vacation ever! Now that I'm back, all my friends keep asking me about the trip. I've probably bored them by talking about it so much already! I just can't help it though - Hawaii was like a fantasy landfull of incredible sights, sounds, smells, and tastes. From the warm ocean breezes to the sweet aroma of fresh pineapple, every moment was sensory overload in the best way.I really hope I get to go back to Hawaii again someday. Maybe I'll even live there after I grow up! For now though, I'm just happy to be back at school with my friends as we start a new year. I've got so many great memories from this summer to look back on. I'm holding on tight to that sense of wonder and excitement about the world that Hawaii gave me. Who knows what awesome adventures the future may hold?篇62024 College Admission Simulation Test English Section 3Hi everyone! My name is Timmy and I'm going to tell you all about the English section of the big college test I took. It was really hard but I tried my best! The first part was reading comprehension. There were 4 passages and a bunch of questions after each one. The passages were super long with lots of big words I didn't know. One was about the history of robots which was kind of cool. Another was about economics which was kind of boring to be honest. The questions asked stuff like what was the main idea, what did acertain word mean in the passage, and even my opinion on what the author was trying to say. I had to read very carefully and go back to find evidence from the passages for my answers. My brain got tired from all that reading and thinking!Next was the writing section where we had to write two essays. The first one was easier - we just had to give our opinion on whether elementary schools should have longer recess times.I said yes because recess is fun and kids need time to run around and get their energy out. For the second essay we had to read a passage and summarize the main points and author's argument. That was hard because the passage used all these big scholarly words I didn't really understand. I tried my best to pick out the important details though.Grammar was after that. There were sentences with blanks and we had to pick the correct word to fill in the blank from 4 choices. Some were testing subject-verb agreement, others were about pronoun usage or verb tense. A few tested our knowledge of adjectives, adverbs and prepositions too. I'm not too bad at grammar but some of those questions really stumped me!Then came the listening section which was my least favorite. We had to listen to recordings of conversations or lectures and answer multiple choice questions testing our comprehension. The recordings went so fast with all sorts of accents and background noise. I missed quite a few questions because I just couldn't catch all the details when listening just once. Next time I'll pay closer attention! The last part was vocabulary. We had to pick synonyms and antonyms for words, figure out meanings from context, and also define lots of prefixes, roots and suffixes. Some of the words were so obscure and weird, I'd never heard them before in my life! How does anyone know words like "susurrous" or "indefatigable"? Maybe I'll start studying from a dictionary to learn more big vocabulary words.Phew, I'm exhausted just thinking about that mega test again! There were so many different types of questions covering reading, writing, speaking and listening skills. It tested everything we've been learning in English class over the years. Some parts were okay for me but others were brutally hard. I'll have to study way more for next year's college test. Hopefully this experience gave me some practice for what to expect. Keeping my fingers crossed I did well enough to get into a good college! Who knows, maybe I'll become an English teacher myself someday. Well that's all folks, thanks for listening to me ramble on about my crazy test day!。

stands.Tours and additional sessions may also be available in subject departments. Many colleges will be open all day for Cambridge Open Day visitors. However, some will be holding their own collegespecific event, for which a separate booking with that college is required.College open daysDuring college open days you can pick up a range of information and get a sense of college life, but Scheme is a studentrun initiative by which current Cambridge undergraduates visit state schools or colleges across the country. The visits are intended to give information to Year 12 students and provide an opportunity for them to hear about the university from a current student's perspective. The Target Scheme can also offer sessions on postA Level choices for younger students.21.What can admissions process?A.IB higher level examinations.B.Subject masterclasses.C.CUSU Target Scheme.D.State schools.23.What does CUSU Target Scheme feature?A.Booking in advance.B.Visiting school library.C.Taster lectures.D.A studentrun project.BThough 3D printingtechnology has been available for over two decades,it has not gone mainstream as hoped because of the high cost and slow print speed. But that may change soon, thanks to German sportswear manufacturer Adidas. On December 15,2016,the company revealed Adidas 3D Runners, stylish sports sneakers featuring a 3D printed midsole (鞋底夹层) that provides athletes with the extra cushioning (软垫) needed for optimal performance.Unlike traditional midsoles, these are not a uniform foam (泡沫),but weblike structures with varied density to take into account the impact areas of the foot. This means that the mesh (网眼) is thicker in the shoe's front and back, both of which hit the ground hard when the athlete runs.A3Dprinted heel, put into the midsole, eliminates the need for traditional gluing or stitching (缝合).The shoe upper, made of Primeknit, allows for increased flexibility, stability, and protection in the impact areas. Not surprisingly, the stylish, limited edition black training shoes that were only available for sale in New York City,London, and Tokyo and cost $333,were an instant hit and sold out within hours of their release.Though not affordable or available to the mass market, the radical shoes are an encouraging step in the right direction for more widespread use of the technology. While printing 3D objects may sound complicated, the process is relatively straightforward.Once the design is downloaded to a printer,a laser creates a layer of material, usually plastic or metal.Successive layers are deposited above one another and fused together until the product is complete. The technology can be used to build everything, from shoe soles to a microwave oven. There is currently even an effort underway to make a printer that is large enough to create the cement layers required to build a house.24.3D printed midsoles are different from ordinary ones in that ________.A.they are made of uniform foamB.they are held together with glueC.the meshes are larger than ordinary onesD.they are like webs with different density25.The underlined word “eliminate” in Paragraph 2 most probably means “________”.A.catch up with B.get related toC.be connected with D.get rid of26.From Paragraph 3 we can infer that ________.A.the shoes sold wellB.the shoes were relatively cheapC.the shoes can satisfy the need of the marketD.the company can mass produce the shoes 27.What does the last paragraph mainly tell us?A.What a 3D printer is.B.How a 3D printer works.C.How complicated the process is.D.What size a 3D printer is.COne thing that British and Chinese cultures share is a love for fine tea.Today, when we think of Western tea culture,we often think of the English and beautiful china tea cups.Afternoon teaPeople believe that an English lady,Anna, first introduced the idea of afternoon tea.In the 18th and 19th centuries, the English ate only two main meals each day:breakfast and a heavy supper that would last for several hours in the evening. As a result, people often got very hungry during the long wait between these two meals. To solve this problem,Anna came up with the clever idea of inviting some friends to join her for an afternoon meal between four and five o'clock. This meal included cakes and sandwiches. And tea was served to wash down the food.In order to make this afternoon meal important, fine china cups and plates and silver teapots, knives, forks and spoons were used.Soon, afternoon tea parties became popular social occasions.Today, afternoon tea parties continue to play an important part in the social life in modern Britain. Will you come for coffee?Coffee also plays an important role in British culture.People often use “Will you come for coffee?” to mean “Would you like to come to my home for a chat?”.Normally, several different drinks such as tea,hot chocolate or a soft drink like orange juice will be served as well as coffee, and you will be asked what you would like. However, you will not normally be offered wine at a “coffee” party.Coffeehouses and the London Stock ExchangeIn the 17th century London, coffeehouses were busy and noisyplaces.Businessmen and bankers went to coffeehouses to do their business,as well as to drink coffee. In fact, the London Stock Exchange (伦敦股票交易所) is believed to have started from these coffeehouses.28.Anna introduced the idea of drinking afternoon tea because she ________.A.enjoyed chatting with her friends at homeB.loved fine tea and beautiful china tea cupsC.found people felt hungry during the longwait between the two mealsD.wanted to share nice food with her friends29.If someone says to you “Will you come for coffee?”,you ________.A.will be offered coffee onlyB.will be asked what you would like to drink C.will be invited to take part in an afternoon tea partyD.will be asked to have a chat with him or her30.From the last paragraph we can see ________.A.a new business was started in coffeehouses B.coffeehouses are still used by businessmen and bankersC.businessmen and bankers went tocoffeehouses just for coffeeD.most people wouldn't like to go tocoffeehouses because of the noise 31.Which is the best title of the passage?A.British and Chinese CulturesB.English Tea and Coffee CultureC.Coffeehouses and BusinessD.The Beginning of Tea and CoffeeDSometimes we may find that every week there are a lot of new stories about how climate change is affecting the planet,or new plans to battle its effects. But the concept itself isn't new at all—in fact, scientists have been exploring questions about climate change for almost 200 years. The idea of “greenhouse gases” goes back to 1824,when Joseph Fourier wondered what was regulating the earth's temperature.Fourier concluded that the atmosphere must be responsible for containing the heat absorbed from the sun and described it as a box with a glass lid:As light shines through the glass, the inside gets warmer as the lid traps the heat.As Fourier's ideas spread,it came to be called “the greenhouse effect”.Scientists continued to study the greenhouse effect. Not until a Swedish chemist named Svante Arrhenius came along did scientists understand how global warming actuallyworks. After years of work,Arrhenius determined that the level of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere did in fact have a direct effect on global temperatures.Arrhenius found that CO2,and other gases trap radiation, which warms the atmosphere.Arrhenius was the first to suspect that burning coal could contribute to the greenhouse effect. But Arrhenius welcomed the warming effect on the planet. At a lecture later that year,Arrhenius noted that creatures of a warmer earth “might live under a milder sky and in less barren surroundings”.While Arrhenius' findings won him the 1903 Nobel Prize in chemistry, scientists kept debating whether the greenhouse effect was increasing until 1950,when researchers finally began to find strong data supporting it.By the end of the 1950s,American scientists had been sounding the alarm on the longterm consequences of climate change.Climate change research has come a long way since Fourier first described the greenhouse effect—still, maybe Arrhenius should have been more careful of what he wished for.32.What does the underlined word “it” inParagraph 2 refer to?A.The atmosphere.B.The greenhouse effect.C.The climate change.D.The heat from the sun.33.When did the scientists find evidence for the bad effect of global warming?A.In 1903. B.In 1950.C.200 years ago. D.By the end of 1950s.34.What's the author's attitude towards Arrhenius' wish?A.Positive. B.Indifferent.C.Supportive. D.Opposed. 35.What's the main idea of the text?A.Causes of climate change.B.Effects of greenhouse gases.C.Explorations on climate change. D.Findings about global warming.第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。

Noticing that the door was open, she entered the library, and was astonished to see the heartwarming scene that people were using it like on a regular day.It was scheduled to be closed for the New Year holiday. The people in the library behaved as usual. Many were sitting reading newpers, some families were in the children’s section and others were searching for books on the computer. It seemed that Elf’s colleagues had simply forgotten to lock the door, and because this popular library is usually open on Saturdays, visitors just assumed they could walk in. Elf called to check with her staff team, before announcing to the people present that the library was about to close. Then she expressed her regret for what had been done wrong and caused them a problem. It later turns out that 446 locals visited the city library, borrowing a total of 246 books during the day. What’s remarkable is that people checked out their books through the library’s electronic self-service system, and that to date, all the books have been returned! Many Swedes have reacted positively to this uplifting demonstration of local respect for the library, a center that can be seen as a sign of the community, and what the locals did has strengthened their sense of belonging in their community.Elf says, “Nothing was destroyed. That is the question. The rapid development of AI tools has led many people to question their impacts on academic life. During an event to educate students about AI and academic integrity, Emily Bonanno, chief justice of the All-Campus Judicial Council(ACJC), which is responsible for hearing individual cases relating to academic integrity, stressed that although AI as a common tool is a recent development, its impacts on academic honesty are already clear. “People are using it practically like any common tool,” Bonanno said. “People run into issues where they make assumptions and say ‘Oh, I’m just going to use it’ or ‘It doesn’t really matter. It’s just a little paragraph’. But it does matter.”The Academic Honesty Policy defines academic honesty as “Acting with truthfulness and sincerity in carrying out all aspects of our individual and collaborative (合作的) work, maintaining ownership of our work and acknowledging our debt to the work of others”. The use of AI tools in completing tasks might be thought of as the breach of academic integrity if it went against this policy, Bonanno said. She explained that using AI without an instructor’s permission might be considered as receiving or using unauthorized aid under the policy. Many instructors prohibit the use of AI in their classrooms because it runs the risk of disregarding academic integrity, but there are exceptions. Professor Whitney is teaching a course called Writing About and With Artificial Intelligence, which examines the role that AI can play in writing and involves using AI tools to better understand how to write with them. Regardless of whether an instructor allows or forbids the use of AI, its rules should be laid out clearly, Bonanno said.28. What do Emily Bonanno’s words in paragraph 2 imply?A. We should be careful about academic use of AI.B. AI has been a major risk to academic integrity.C. Occasional use of AI tools for tasks is acceptable.D. AI is far from a common tool in the academic field.29. What does the underlined word “breach” in paragraph 3 mean?A. Misinterpretation.B. Clarification.C. Representing.D. Breaking.30. Why is Professor Whitney mentioned?A. To present the practical application of AI.B. To show another view on using AI in class.C. To stress the important role of AI in writing.D. To encourage the appropriate use of AI tools.31. Which can be the suitable title for the text?A. Is AI a Real Threat to Education?B. Will AI Be Prohibited Academically?C. Is Using AI Academically Dishonest?D. Should You Use AI to Complete Tasks?D“Anxiety.” The very word invites discomfort. Its effects—shortness of breath, pounding heart, muscle tension—are outright upsetting. But, as a clinician, I find that we tend to miss out on many valuable opportunities presented by this human emotion. In and of itself, anxiety is not deadly, nor is it a disease. Quite the contrary: it is an indicator of brain and sensory health. Once we accept that it is a normal, though uncomfortable, part of life, we can use it to help us.We all know working out at the gym is hard. By nature, a “good workout” is uncomfortable, since it involves pushing our physical strength past what we can easily do. The sweet spot of exercise is always a somewhat challenging experience. Similarly, if you want to be emotionally stronger, you need to face some tension. For example, one effective treatment for fear is exposure therapy(疗法), which involves gradually encountering things that make one anxious, reducing fear over time.e.g.ns are social creatures. When my patients learn to open up to their partners about their anxieties, they almost always report a greater sense of emotional closeness. Also, as international relationship expert Sue Johnson teaches, when we express our need for connection during challenging moments (e.g., “I’m having a hard time right now and could really use your support”), it creates greater connection and turns our anxiety into love. From time to time, we find ourselves at the end of our rope. Our responsibilities pile up, our resources break down, and we feel uncomfortably anxious—what we’re experiencing is called stress. Simply put, the demands placed upon us outweigh our available resources, just like a set of scales(天平) going out of balance. Focusing on work and pretending everything is OK only leads to disastrous results. Medical treatment for stress may function for a while, but it tends to make things worse in the long run. The only solution to deal with stress is to do the mathematics to balance the scales.32. What does the author say about anxiety?A. It is an invitation to diseases.B. It indicates stable mental health.C. It costs us many valuable chances.D. It is a natural emotional expression.33. Why does the author mention “good workout” in paragraph 2?A. To explain how anxiety builds emotional strength.B. To suggest an effective way to challenge limits.C. To prove how exercise influences emotions.D. To show a positive connection between mind and body.34. What is paragraph 3 mainly about?A. The key to closeness is partners’ support.B. Sharing anxieties improves relationships.C. Humans are defined by their social nature.D. Expressing feelings keeps us off anxieties.35. According to the last paragraph, how can we deal with stress?A. Devote more energy to our work.B. Increase resources available to us.C. Seek professional medical treatment.D. Master advanced mathematical skills.第二节(共5小题; 每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。

A(xx年吉林长春高三新起点调研考试英语试卷)Everyone, please imagine, a big explosion breaks out as the plane takes us high in the sky. The plane is full of smoke and the engine sounds scary. Two minutes later, the engines are turned off. We are now sitting in a plane with no sound. And we cansee: Life is over. That really happened. In January xx, I had a front-row seat on Flight 1549, the plane that crash-landed in the Hudson River in New York. Now let me tell you the three things I learned when the silence came.First, I thought about all the people I wanted to reach out to but didn’t.I thought about all the experiences I wanted to have but never did. I no longer wanted to put off anything in life. Second, I really regretted the time I wasted on things that did not matter. I decided to remove negative energy from my life. Third, I realized, wow, dying was not scary. But it was very sad just because I only wished I could have seen my kids grow up.Fortunately, I was given the gift of a miracle of not dying that day.I was given another gift, with which I was to see into the future and e back and live differently.About a month later, my wife and I were at a performance by my daughter, not much artistic talent. Yet, I’m crying. I realized that abo ve all, the only goal in my life was to be a good father.Audience, again, imagine the same thing happening on your plane. How would you change? What would you get done? And more than anything, are you being the best parent you can?Thank you.21. Which of the following can be the best title for the text?A. Air crash is always a tragedy.B. What I learned from the air crash.C. Life is a miracle as we imagine.D. How to bee a good father.22. When does the idea “Life is over” e into being?A. Exactly during the explosion.B. When the plane was full of smoke.C. Before the engines sounded scary.D. When the engines were turned off.23. What is the author’s final goal in life?A. Never to put off anything in life.B. To remove negative energy from life.C. To see his daughter grow up.D. To be a good father.24. What type of writing is this text?A. A speech on one’s air travel experience.B. An emergency crash-landing guide.C. An introduction of an adventure novel.D. A safety training for air passengers.B(xx•甘肃省部分普通高中高三2月第一次联考)Energy independence. It has a nice ring to it. Doesn’t it? If you think so, you’re not alone, because energy independence has been the dream of American president for decades, and never more so than in the past few years, when the most recent oil price shock has been partly responsible for kicking off the great recession.“Energy independence” and its rhetorical (修辞的) panion “energy security” are, however, slippery concepts that are rarely through, though. What is it that we want independence from, exactly? Most people would probably say that they want to be independent from imported oil. But there are reasons that we buy all that oil from elsewhere. The first reason is that we need it to keep our economy running. Yes, there is a trickle(涓涓细流)of biofuel(生物燃料)available, and more may bee available, but most biofuels cause economic waste and environmental destruction.Second, Americans have basically decided that they don’t really want to produce all their own oil. They value the environmental quality they preserve over their oil imports from abroad. Vast areas of the United States are off-limits to oil exploration and production in the name of environmental protection. To what extent are Americans really willing to endure the environmental impacts of domestic energy production in order to cut back imports?Third, there are benefits to trade. It allows for economic efficiency, and when we buy things from places that have lower production costs than we do, we benefit. And although you do n’t read about this much, the United States is also a large exporter of oil products, selling about 2 million barrels of petroleum products per day to about 90 countries. There is no question that the United States imports a great deal of energy and, in fact, relies on that steady flow to maintain its economy. When that flow is interrupted, we feel the pain in short supplies and higher prices, at the same time, we derive massive economic benefits when we buy the most affordable energy on the world market and when we engage in energy trade around the world.25. What does the author think of biofuels?A. They keep America’s economy running healthily.B. They prove to be a good alternative to petroleum.C. They do not provide a sustainable energy supply.D. They cause serious damage to the environment.26. Why does America rely heavily on oil imports?A. It wants to expand its storage of crude oil.B. Its own oil reserves are quickly running out.C. It wants to keep its own environment intact.D. Its own oil production falls short of demand.27. What does the author say about oil trade?A. It proves profitable to both sides.B. It improves economic efficiency.C. It makes for economic prosperity.D. It saves the cost of oil exploration.C(xx山东省青岛市高三统一质量检测)Zheng Pengyu: Interest is the best teacher. Classrooms that weren’t fixed could give students the chance to explore their interests. At the same time, they would be able to learn on their own because they would have to make their own decisions. All in all, the new system would be a good chance to inspire students’ passion for studying.Sun Yao: Despite its benefits, I’m worried about whether the new system would work. Going to different classrooms would take up a big part of our break time and we would have less time to relax after class. Also, not all schools could offer so many diversified classes.Shi Zhenghan: I support students learning in different classes. It would solve the problem of some students thinking the classes are too easy while some think they are too difficult. Teachers could also teach more effectively. What’s more, friendships built while in different classes might be a pleasant surprise.Zhou Qingqing: In my opinion, studying in different classrooms might affect students’ psychological (心理的) development. They might find it difficult to develop deep and strong friendships with other students if they had to change classrooms constantly. They would also lose their sense of belonging to a certain class.Hu Qile: I applaud the idea. It would help teachers set up special teaching plans for different classes. For students, making choices by themselves could encourage them to be responsible. Changing classrooms could also help relive the boredom of doing the same dull routine (惯例) every day.Wang Xiaoqian: The new system might help with students’ individual development, but I still prefer the current system. Studying in one fixed classroom, students with different academic levels can help each other. Spending your senior middle school years with the same classmates is an unforgettable experience.28. According to Sun Yao, which of the following sentences is TRUE?A. The new system will work if great measures are taken.B. All the schools can’t afford so many diversified classes.C. Students will have more time to relax.D. He supports the system because of its benefits.29. Among the following people, who prefers the new system?A. Sun YaoB. Hu QileC. Zhou QingqingD. Next to the station was the manager’s house. Apart from looking after the instruments, his job consisted of writing accurate reports on the state of the weather so that, should questions be asked, the authorities would not be at a loss, but have the necessary information at hand. The manager was a most conscientious young man. He describe them truthfully in detail, and sent his reports to the head offices. The storms continued. One day he had a visit from an old and experienced colleague, who remarked casually before leaving. “I wander, my friends, if your reports aren’t a bit on the depressing side.”“What do you mean?”The manager was surprised. “You can see with your eyes that it’s pouring rain.”“Yes,yes. Of course, everybody can see that. But you do understand, don’t you, that we must approach the problem scientifically. Mind you , it’s none of my business. I just mentioned it out offriendship.”The young manager was left alone and continued piling his reports. He gazed at the sky with some anxiety, but he went on writing.About that time he received an unexpected summon(传唤) from his higher authority. The authority received him in a lovely house. Rain was drumming on the roof.“We’ve summoned you,” announced the authority, “because we are surprised by one side nature of your reports. For some time now they’ve been affected by a pessimistic note. The harvest is on the way, and you keep on talking about rain. Don’t you understand the responsible nature of your work?”“But it keeps on raining...”said the manager. The authority said angrily, “We have here all your recent reports. You are a good worker, but I want you to understand that we shan’t tolerate any defeatism.”The following day the weather improved. He was delighted and immediately wrote his report. “The rain has stopped pletely and it has to be admitted that it has never rained very much. Just a few drops now ad again. But now what sunshine!”Indeed, the sun had broken through the clouds, it became warm and the earth was steaming. The manager went about his duties happily. In the afternoon clouds began to gather once more, driven by a cold wind. The time for his next report came and he wrote : “The sun behaves as usual.
