She said we could write it on the computer or do it by hand, but my friend Timmy told me about this awesome app his older sister uses called Meipian. It lets you put together words, photos, videos, stickers and all kinds of fun stuff to make a digital essay. So I asked my mom if I could use Meipian and she helped me download it.The first thing I did was pick a fun background theme for my essay pages. Meipian has tons of choices like animals, outer space, under the sea and more. I decided to go with the Great Wall of China background since that was one of the best parts of our trip.Then I started writing the introduction page about why we went to Beijing. My dad's company has an office there, so we went to visit his work but also to see all the amazing sights as tourists. I used Meipian's text tool to type in my intro and tried out different text sizes and colors. I ended up going with a big red font because it looked really bright and vibrant.After the intro, I moved on to describing the hotel we stayed at - the Grand Hyatt Beijing. It was soooooo fancy! They had a huge swimming pool, tennis courts, and a bunch of nice restaurants. Meipian has a photo layout tool that lets you insert pictures, so I uploaded some of the hotel photos my dad took and dragged them into place on the new page. I made sure to use the best ones like the giant lobby area and the kids pool area.The third part of my essay was about one of the coolest things I've ever seen - the Forbidden City! This was the palace where the emperors of ancient China lived with their families and advisors. It's absolutely massive and has nearly 1000 buildings inside its walls. We spent an entire day wandering around and exploring. My favorite part was the Imperial Garden in the back part of the Forbidden City. There was a hill with beautiful trees and views across a lake with these cool bridges over the water.Meipian makes it super simple to record videos straight from your camera roll, so I added a short video clip of me climbing up the hill in the Imperial Garden.Next up was a section on seeing the famous Terracotta Warriors. These are thousands of life-size ceramic soldier statues that were buried over 2000 years ago to guard the tomb of China's first emperor. They were only discovered in the 1970s by some farmers digging in their fields! On the Meipian page about the Terracotta Warriors, I used their drawing tool to sketch a picture of one of the soldier statues. I'm not the best artist but the drawing tool makes it easy to erase mistakes or used the undo button.Then of course, I had to include a whole page on my favorite part - hiking along the Great Wall of China! This incredible wall winds for thousands of miles through the mountains in northern China. Part of it is pretty touristy and renovated, but we also got to go on a more adventurous hike along an original ancient part that was steeper with lots of crumbly stone steps. We had an excellent guide who taught us about the wall's history of defending against nomadic invaders over the centuries. For this page I used Meipian's layout tool to showcase some of the best photos my mom took of the views from walking on the GreatWall. I also inserted a realistic-looking Great Wall of China sticker that Meipian had to make the page look even cooler.Towards the end of the essay I included some bonus pages about other things we did, like visiting the Olympic Park from the 2008 Beijing Games, eating yummy dumplings and noodles, and seeing a Chinese acrobat show one evening. There are so manyamazing stickers and decorations on Meipian for food, sports, entertainment and more. I experimented with comic-style Word bubbles and background patterns too.For the very last page, I wrote a conclusion paragraph thanking my parents for taking us on such an incredible trip where we learned so much about China's culture and history. I used Meipian's handwriting tool to write a short message telling my mom and dad how much I loved the vacation.And that's it - my awesome essay all about our family adventure in Beijing, China! I held my breath the whole time! The grand finale involved motorized spinning plates and dancers leaping through tiny hoops. It was the coolest thing I've ever seen.I also got to experience the city's modern side at places like the Birds Nest stadium from the 2008 Olympics. Its intricate lattice design looks like a giant nest from the outside. Inside, the sports venues were massive and state-of-the-art. I dreamed of competing there as an athlete someday!Every night, we'd walk through Tiananmen Square to see the flag ceremony. Hundreds of people would gather to watch soldiers lowering the bright red Chinese flag at sunset. It was a powerful moment of patriotism and pride. The square is so iconic with its portrait of Mao Zedong and the gate leading to the Forbidden City.I have so many wonderful memories from this trip. Beijing blew me away with its perfect mix of ancient traditions and modern wonders. From climbing on the Great Wall to slurpingnoodles in a hutong alley, I experienced the very best this amazing city has to offer. I already can't wait to go back!。
