The other day I was travelling to San Antonio by train to visit my sister. The train was a little crowded and there was a young man sitting next to the window. Since it was a hot day, I wanted that window seat more than anything else at that time As a young lady, I thought the young man would give me the seat if I asked him. So I smiled at him and asked whether he could give up his seat and take another one. To my surprise, he said that he needed that seat and refused my request. I had no choice but to take the seat next to him.

The train was crossing station after station .The weather was so hot that the scenery(风景) outside the window could not attract my interest I had nothing to do, so I started to focus my attention on the young man and stare at him up and down. He wore a blue shirt and there was a shawl(披巾) on his legs. He did not even rise from his seat once, which made me feel a little bit strange. Moreover, only a madman would use a shawl in such hot weather, I thought.

After the five-hour long journey, the train arrived at the final stop. I picked up my bag and stood up, waiting for the door to open. I gave a neglectful (不经意的) look at the young man and asked, “The train has arrived at the final station. Are you not getting off?" Hearing my words, he began to smile at me and said in a calm voice, "Someone has to come for me and take me off the train because I can’t do it by myself. "I gave my full attention to his legs, only to find the

there was nothing under that shawl!

Alexis and Zoe were sitting at the kitchen table doing their homework. They had a hard time focusing on their homework because the radio station was playing music from their favourite band, the Shape Shifters .

“I can’t believe the Shifters are going to be playing here and we cant go! "Alexis said .

“I know, Zoe replied. "Tickets are sold out in five minutes and even if we can get some, they are so expensive!”

“It’s totally unfair,” said Alexis.

“ They should give the tickets to their biggest fans first! “ You mean us, right?” Zoe said . "Obviously, "said Alexis. Everyone knows we’ re their number one fans .”

Zoe turned the radio up a bit louder. Their favourite song was on, and the girls had an impromptu(即兴的) dance party right there in the kitchen. As it ended, they sat on their chairs again. The radio host started talking about the concert .

I have exciting news to share with all of you We will give away two tickets to Saturday's sold-out show and will look for the third caller who can correctly answer this question: who is the oldest member of the Shape Shifters? the host said Alexis and Zoe looked at each other. They couldn’t believe how easy the question was. "It's Georgie! "said Alexis "No, it's Na tasha, "answered Zoe “ Everyone knows Georgie is29.He’ s much older than the rest of the band, said Alexis .

"I know he's the oldest person, but the question is who's the oldest member of the band. "Natasha started the band when she was just 15. The others joined the group after her, "Zoe explained.

Alexis thought for a while and later agreed with Zoe. And they decided to call the radio station to answer that question. They stood together and held their breath Hello, girls, you are lucky caller Number 3 The girls screamed excitedly."Nobody seems to know the answer to our question. Do you? " the host continued.

Zoe said,“ We know the answer!”“I hope so. If you get it right, you'll have a chance to Saturdays sold-out show! "

Rain is pouring down today, which brings back sweet memories of our dog, Bambi. She joined our family at the age of four months. Like all puppies, she was full of energy and wonder. Our boys described excitedly that she looked just like the young deer, Bambi, in the movie they had watched recently. The name fitted her personality perfectly.

Bambi also had all the fine physical characteristics of the German Shepherd. She was strong, yet gentle and shy. We were a young family with two growing, energetic boys, so she fitted right in with our lifestyle. Bambi loved the boys. She would play with them until they were completely tired .

When Bambi was almost two years old, a full-grown dog, she became quite protective of us. She never failed to watch the boys. If any stranger entered our yard, she d watch him or her with sharp eyes and let out a low bark. Even though Bambi had this protective instinct(本能), she never hurt anyone. Nevertheless, she did manage to frighten(惊吓) away many welcome and unwelcome guests.

On one occasion, I had called a repairman to come to our home to fix the refrigerator. I was at work, and the boys were home with the babysitter I told the repairman by phone that we had a dog, but it would be safe to enter the house because the babysitter would be there to meet him. However when the repairman arrived, the babysitter and boys went outside. As he went close to our front door, Bambi was outside and she barked at him while she guarded the door. As long as the man attempted to move, Bambi would jump up and bark more fiercely(凶猛地)。This man had never seen such a fierce dog before and was frightened too much. He had no idea whether to go away or scream for help.

Paragraph 1 :Luckily, the babysitter and boys returned from their walk at that time. They rescued the poor frightened repairman from our guard dog. This story is always mentioned whenever we talk about Bambi.

Paragraph 2:

1. Name________________ It had been some time since Jack had seen the old man. College, career, and life itself got in the way. In fact, Jack moved clear across the country in pursuit (追寻) of the dreams. There, in the rush of his busy life, Jack had little time to think about the past and often no time to spend with his wife and son. He was working on his future, and nothing could stop him. Over the phone, his mother told him, “Mr. Belser died last night. The funeral(葬礼)is Wednesday.” Memories flashed(闪现)through his mind like an old newsreel (新闻短片) as he sat quietly remembering his childhood days. “Jack, did you hear me?” “Oh, sorry, Mom. Yes, I heard you. It’s been so long since I thought of him. I’m sorry, but I honestly thought he died years ago,” Jack said. “Well, he didn’t forget you. Every time I saw him he’d ask how you were doing. He’d reminisce (回忆) about the many days you spent over ‘his side of the fence’ as he put it, ” Mom told him. “I loved that old house he lived in,” Jack said. “You know, Jack, after your father died, Mr. Belser stepped in to make sure you had a man’s influence (影响) in your life,” she said. “He’s the one who taught me carpentry. I wouldn’t be in this business if it weren’t for him. He spent a lot of time teaching me things that he thought were important. Mom, I’ll be there for the funeral.” Jack said. Busy as he was, he kept his word. Jack caught the next flight to his hometown. Mr. Belser’s funeral was small and uneventful. He had no children of his own, and most of his relatives had passed away. The night before he had to return home, Jack and his Mom stopped by to see the old house next door one more time, which was exactly as he remembered. Every step held memories. Every picture, every piece of furniture … Jack stopped suddenly. “What’s wrong, Jack?” his Mom asked. “The box is gone,” he said. “What box?” Mom ask ed. “There was a small gold box that he kept locked on top of his desk. I must have asked him a thousand times what was inside. All he’d ever tell me was ‘the thing I value most’,” Jack said. It was gone. Everything about the house was exactly how Jack remembered it, except for the box. He figured someone from the Belser family had taken it. “Now I’ll never know what was so valuable to him,” Jack said sadly. 1.

The cold air on windows during February, however, always did make for good pictures in the stream of my breath. Every year, we invite the children to our club to make cookies or chocolate at holiday times. The children are always excited to come back and have memorized the rules by now. We explain how to spoon the different-colored chocolates into the heart-shaped molds, and the kids jump right into the project, even the youngest ones, who are too short to reach the counter. On this day, there was a boy I was drawn to. He was ten, but his attitude told the story of a boy who had been hardened (使刚毅) by the world and all the trouble that he suffered from. His face looked much older than his age. I especially noticed the lollipop(棒棒糖)he was making. Most of the children had finished with their projects. There wasn’t m uch chocolate left. He took the remaining spoonfuls of all the different colors, which were so jumbled(混乱的)that a person could not see where one color started and the next ended. It seemed to him that all that mattered was that he was able to finish his chocolate. Two hours had passed and it was time for everyone to go. Each of the children was given a bag, and they all split the candy amongst themselves to take with them. The ten-year-old boy came back over to me after he had gotten his share of candy. He noticed my hands were empty. Why didn't you take any? "he asked “I wanted to make sure there was enough for everyone else, ”I said “Oh,” he replied, but I could see he didn’t really accept my answer. As everyone got ready to leave, I was occupied with my work and didn’t see the boy staring at me. I got a hug from each of the smiling children as they slipped out of the door. My ten-year-old friend was the last to go. By now, I had noticed the little tough guy looking at me. He came up to me again, this time slowly, looking around to make sure no one was watching.

山川又可以细分为:forest, mountains, caves, islands and volcanoes, paths, rivers, sea。

高频短语–名词和形容词 * Magnificent forest of tall trees高大的森林 * Like a crowd of vivid green umbrellas像一群鲜艳的绿色雨伞* Emerald /?em(?)r?ld/ green leaves翠绿的叶子 * Vivid green stems鲜艳的绿色茎 * Like fluttering, emerald ribbons像飘动的翡翠丝带 * Blazing carpet of bluebells耀眼的风信子 * Red and orange berries红色和橙色浆果

Mom was a good cook. No, I take that back. She was a great cook. She could take a little hamburger a few potatoes and some tomatoes to make a feast that would make everyone drool(流口水) .And the dishes she could do with chicken well, it makes my mouth water to think about her delicious fried chicken. Her homemade chili sauce was second to none. Her bottled peaches were better than candies. When I was a little girl I once offered to make my sister Kathy’s bed for a week if she would give me the last slice of toast made with Moms homemade bread and pineapple jam. Kathy w ouldn’t go for it. She prefe rred to eat the toast. There is no doubt that Mom was a great cook most of the time. But if you put a steak in her pan, she would turn it into a texture(口感) of shoe leather. Of course, she didn’t do that on purpose She really did try her best. The night before I was married, she thought she was giving me a special treat by preparing a thick steak. It tasted as terrible as usual. Several months later, my elder brother Bud took me out for lunch and ordered steaks. I wasn’t excited, but since he was paying I figured I could try a few bites. When the waitress served our steaks, I was surprised at how good they smelled .Mom's steaks never smelled like that. Suddenly, I understood why others spoke of steak fondly. I finished my steak greedily, and even stole a bite of Bud’s."“ You k now," I said to Bud, patting my stomach with real satisfaction, "I used to think Mom was a great cook. But it's hard to believe her steaks come from the same animal as these steaks. Of course she is, Bud said. "But think about it. She grew up during a time when her family was very poor. That’s when she learned to cook. How often do you think they had steak? Probably not very often, I guessed Paragraph 1 “Probably never,”Bud said . _____________________________________________________________________________ Paragraph 2: But then it occurred to me that "great” do esn' t mean" perfect” _____________________________________________________________________________ Paragraph 1: “ Probably never," Bud said.“ And when I was a little boy and Dad was in the army, don't remember ever having steak. It's only after our youngest sister was born that Mom and Dad could afford steak. So it isn’t that Mom isn't a good cook. It's just that she didn’t have a lot of experience of cooking steak. That’s the reason for my mother’s having a weakness in the kitchen. It was difficult for me to understand this at first, especially after we enjoyed Moms incredible fried chicken the day before. Paragraph 2 But then it occurred to me that“ great” doesn' t mean" perfe ct”. It just means" great” It's great of Mom to have cooked delicious food for us for years and make everyone feel happy. But what did I do for her? I determined to give Mom a surprise. After learning from a friend, I prepared a big dinner for Mom .When she saw the nice steak and had her first bite of it, a happy smile appeared on her face. 1
