New York is the most popular city in the United States and the center of the New York Metropolitan Area, one of the most popular metropolitan areas in the world. New York has a significant impact upon global commerce, finance, media, art, fashion, research, technology, education, and entertainment. The home of the United Nations Headquarters, New York is an important center for international affairs and is widely deemed the cultural capital of the world. The city is also known as New York City or the City of New York to distinguish it from the state of New York, of which it is a part.

8、华尔街
华尔街是纽约市曼哈顿区南部从百老汇路延伸到东河的一条大街道的名字,全长不过三分之一英里,宽仅11米。

街道狭窄而短,从百老汇到东河仅有7个街段。

1792年荷兰殖民者为抵御英军侵犯而建筑一堵土墙,从东河一直筑到哈德逊河,后沿墙形成了一条街,因而得名
Wall Street。

后拆除了围墙,但“华尔街”的名字却保留了下来。
