I keep remembering odd things: the way she loved daffodils, jokes she told at the dinner table, the look in her eyes when she talked about my future. I knew about college before I'd never heard of high school; I was Mom’s second chance at the degree she never had.
Her parents pushed her too much, too hard, and she always wished she hadn’t let the pressure defeat her. She dropped out of college after one term for marriage and a secretarial job. While she never regretted marrying my father, she always regretted giving up her dream of becoming an accountant. She was determined her eldest daughter would never miss an opportunity.
One of the most extremely special times of my life was Christmas in my second school year, when I played Tiny Tim in a local community theater production of "A Christmas Carol(圣诞颂歌)." Mom delighted in my endless rehearsal (排练) stories and spent hours helping me work out ways of disguising my long hair. There’s a line in the show: "And it was always said of him that he knew how to keep Christmas well, if any man alive possessed the knowledge.” Change the pronouns and that sentence describes Mom perfectly.
She was the one person I could talk to about anything. She was right about so much, so often ---- much more than I gave her credit for at the time.
I never imagined she wouldn’t be here now. I never thought cancer could strike so quickly, could kill
someone so strong and determined in only a year. She's the one person I couldn’t imagine living without; now, since last January, I've had to. Suddenly, I have no one to talk to about meaningless little things, no one whose advice I trust completely to help me with decisions. When I come home from school, I come home to an empty house, troubled by memories of the year she spent here dying. I remember the disastrous Thanksgiving when she was feeling terrible, and our wonderful last Christmas Eve together.
What I feel cheated of is the future we’ll never have.

Mercury(水星) is the closest planet to the sun. It is a planet slightly larger than the Earth’s
moon. It is covered in craters. Some craters have ice in them, even though the planet is hot. Sunlight never touches some parts because of the planet’s special position. Without air, there are great temperature differences between the coldest and hottest parts. Mercury days are so long that there are big differences between temperatures on the daylight side and the night side.
Mercury was created billions of years ago, when big rocks ran into each other. After these accidents, the planet was frequently visited by meteorites (流星) for several hundred million years. There were also many volcanic eruptions. As the planet cooled, the thin, rocky outside shell reduced in diameter(直径) by about 3 kilometers.
The Caloris Basin is one of the largest craters on Mercury. This big crater is 1, 300 kilometers wide and was formed when a large rock, about 100 kilometers across, knocked into the surface. Beethoven, another large crater, is 643 kilometers across.
The cliffs on Mercury are up to 2 kilometers high and hundreds of kilometers long. The cliffs were formed when the thin surface fell apart, as volcanic activity slowed down and Mercury became cooler.
One Mercury day lasts about 59 Earth days. Mercury takes about 88 Earth days around the sun to have a complete year, instead of the 365 days that we have on the Earth. Mercury speeds around the sun so that there are three Mercury days every two Mercury years! Mercury has a strange relationship with the Earth. Every 117 days, when Mercury is closest to the Earth, it always has the same side facing us.
Mariner 10 is the only spacecraft to visit Mercury. It made three visits to Mercury in the 1970s, taking photos of many cliffs and craters. Although the first three visits answered many questions, they have raised others.
28. What is the surface of Mercury like?
A. It’s generally flat.
B. It’s hot everywhere.
C. It’s bright everywhere.
D. It’s cold in some parts.
29. Why did Mercury’s diameter get smaller?
A. A drop in temperature changed its size.
B. A great many meteorites ran into it.
C. It got out of shape as time passed.
D. Lots of surface rocks fell off.
30. What do we know about Mercury?
A. One Mercury day lasts about 88 Earth days.
B. It turns around the sun faster than the Earth.
C. Six Mercury days are two Mercury years.
D. It has more cliffs than large craters.
31. What happened after Mariner 10’s three visits to Mercury?
A. Another spacecraft visited Mercury.
B. New cliffs and craters were formed.
C. New signs of volcanic activity appeared.
D. Lots of new puzzles needed to be solved.
D
At one point in June last year, Zeng Jinpeng was more than 10,000 yuan in debt to a smart phone app. The 23-year-old Shanghai citizen pays for his online purchases of food, clothes, and travel with Huabei, a virtual credit card that’s part of Alibaba Group Holding Ltd.’s spreading stable of e-commerce. His spending often used to go beyond his only source of income: the 8,000-yuan monthly allowance from his parents. He tried to repay the debt in installments (分期),even borrowing from Jiebei, another Alibaba-owned credit service, but eventually his mother and father had to help him out
Zeng's story is typical of members of China’s Generation Z. These young consumers, born from the mid-1990s to the early 2000s, have little income and therefore actually no credit history. Yet they have easy access to credit from an assortment of banks, financial-tech companies, and peer-to-peer(P2P)lenders(网络借贷平台), plus other channels that are unregulated. The spending habits of the young in particular are causing concern. In some cases the younger generation is being tempted to overconsume via credit secured through technology. Unsecured consumer lending has expanded 20% a year in China since 2008. The amount
of consumer finance available through the Internet will more than double, to 19 trillion yuan, by 2021, from7.
8 trillion yuan last year. Official data showed that almost 70% of China’ s 50 million P2P borrowers were younger than 40.
As for Zeng, he's trying to be a little more frugal, even though he is now trying to earn a little by himself. " I deliberately set the credit limit at a lower level,” he says, "so that hopefully I can better match my income with spending.”
Regulators( 监管部门) last year launched a breakdown on peer-to-peer lending, which, besides being a source of easy credit, had also become a popular investment vehicle. The sector has shrunk to less than half its peak size as a result of forced shutdowns.
32. What can we learn about Zeng Jinpeng from the first paragraph?
A. He was in debt because he bought a smart phone app.
B. He liked purchasing on the app Huabei of Alibaba Group.
C. He always spent more than he earned from his salary in the past.
D. He depended on his parents to support him to repay his debt.
33.Which of the following words best describes China’s online consumer finance?
A. Crazy.
B. Hopeless.
C. Controlled.
D. Reasonable.
34.What does the underlined word “frugal” in Paragraph 3 probably mean?
A.Impractical.
B. Hardworking.
C. Avoiding waste.
D. Relying on others.
35.Which of the following can be the best title?
A. Overconsumption---- A Bad Habit
B. China’s Generation Z----Hooked on Credit
C. Chinese Youths In the E-commerce Age
D. Zeng Jinpeng’s Financial Crisis

Failure is a word that no one wants to hear. It is human being’s biggest fear, yet it is faced by every human being. Sometimes, people’s fear of it is their biggest barrier to success. 36 Here are some tips which can help you get on the positive side of life.
Say no to giving up. Before starting anything that you think will give you success, promise yourself that you will never give up. 37 But what if you didn’t do that in the start? Then always remember that it is never too late.
38 This is the opportunity that you should not let go of. Suppose you are on a football ground. You strike the ball for 9 times in a row and fail. But at the tenth attempt, you succeed after 9 ‘in a row failures or mistakes’. The tenth attempt proves that you have somehow learnt from your mistakes.
Never think that you’ve got only one plan. The worst thing you can do after failing in some project is thinking that it was the only plan you could ever think of. 39 If a plan A fails, turn to Plan B or Plan C. If you are into achieving something, no one or nothing in this world can stop you.
40 This is the most important thing that you need to live a happy life. Always think positive. Never let yourself down. Positivity is all we need to grow and establish ourselves in this world.
A. Keep a positive attitude.
B. Learn from your mistakes.
C. There is always another plan.
D. Change the failure into victory.
E. In fact, most people strongly deny it.
F. Therefore, you need to learn how to deal with failure.

Being surrounded by wild animals, (18)feeding them and caring for them, is all that I've wanted to do with my life. And that is exactly what I do now. I care for creatures from around the world. I love them all. However, the giraffes occupy a special place in
my heart. Their population in the last 15 years has declined by 80 percent. (19)Buddy and Wasswa are one of just nine sets of twin giraffes born at zoos around the world. After getting some media attention, I launched the Giraffe Conservation Foundation to help protect giraffes living in the wild. (20)I'm so glad to get help from five wildlife researchers that took giraffes up to a higher level. Our farm is open to the public. Visitors can not only learn about the animals, but also get close to them. And the animals are not against that. For them, people are part of their natural environment.。
