So that they are less likely to commit acts of violence. In other words, reporting news about crime can reduce crime rate and enhance social stability.

On the other hand, the extensive media coverage of crime can frighten people and can sometimes give rise to a climbing crime rate. In conclusion, newspapers give us valuable information, but sometimes news reports can distort truth and we may make wrong decisions because of this.
