What is termination?
• Termination describes the method used to attach a connector terminal to a conductor. The conductor may be wire, flex cable, traces on a circuit board, fiber optic cable, or of any other type that interfaces with a connector. Because connectors and terminals are designed for a particular type of termination, it is important to understand the various methods and when and how they are used. This section divides them into wire and board termination methods.

Most of the problems on a circuit occur at connection points. Remember that a connector's purpose is to bridge the gap in a circuit. The two key bridge points are the terminal contact interface and the termination. Good contact and good termination are both vital to a connector's function.
