Good afternoon, everyone,
Today it’s a pleasure for me to stand here and I’m very pleased to have such an opportunity to share some of my teaching ideas with you. First, let me introduce myself. My name is Li Yutao, and I am working as an English teacher in Sunzhuang Middle School.
My topic today is taken from Section A(1a-- 2d) of Unit 4 in the first volume of eight grade in Go For It. The main content of this unit is “How do you get to school”,I‘ll prepare to say the lesson from four parts.
Part One Analysis of the teaching material
1. Status and function
This is an important lesson in this unit and in this book. In this lesson, the Ss learn the way of transportation, such a topic is related to their daily life, so it can raise their learning interests and improve their spoken English.
2. Analysis of the students
Junior school students have lower abstract thinking ability but stronger image thinking ability, and their attention is easily dispersed. They have interest in English but not stable; they have good mechanical memory but weak comprehension, and lack of summarized and analytical ability. After one year’s edification and practice of new curriculum idea, they have
certain basic knowledge of English, listening and speaking ability as well as preliminary ability of independent, cooperation and exploration.
3.Teaching aims
(1)Knowledge Objects
①To study the new words “take , subway, train, forty,
fifty ……”etc. by learning the dialogue of this lesson.
②To make the Ss know how to use the sentences “How do you get to school? How does he get to school? How long does it take?.” Let the Ss be able to answer the questions above.
(2)Ability Objects
①To develop the Ss' abilities of listening ,speaking ,reading and writing.
②To train the Ss' ability of working in pairs.
③To develop the Ss' abilities of communication by learning the useful structures.
(3) Moral Objects
This lesson mainly aims to develop students’ potential ability of talking about transportation means with people around them, and let students learn to communicate with others and show their care to others
4. Teaching key points
(1) Learn new words;
(2) Master the special questions guided by “how”;
(3) Learn to make a conversation.
5.Teaching difficult points
Master the special questions guided by “how”.
(1) How do you get to school? ---I walk/ I ride a bike.
(2) How does he / she get to school? --- He/ she takes the train.
(3) How does Bob get to school? ---He takes the train.
Part Two —— The Teaching Methods
Task-based teaching method
“Audio-visual” teaching method
Communicative method
As we all know: the main instructional aims of learning English in the Middle School is to cultivate students’ abilities of listening, speaking, reading, writing and their good sense of the English language. So in this lesson I’ll mainly use “Communicative” teaching method, “Audio-visual” teaching method and “Task-based” teaching method. That is to say, I’ll let the students get a better understanding of the key structu res. I’ll give the students some tasks and arrange some kinds of activities, like talking, watching CAI.
In a word, I want to make the students the real masters in class while the teacher as a director. I also hope to combine the language structures with the language functions and let the students receive some moral education while they are learning the English language.

Part Four —— Teaching steps
As this lesson plays an important part in the English teaching of this unit, I have decided the following steps to train their abilities of listening, speaking, reading and writing, especially reading and speaking ability Step1 Warm-up and Lead-in
Free talk between the Students. What are you doing for vacation? In this course, I’ll ask them to make a dialogue group by group, find out which group makes the best dialogues.
Purpose of my designing: I think it's important to form a better English surrounding for Ss, and it's necessary to provide situation to review learned knowledge.
Then Ask the students: how do you go to the places where you want to go on vacations or how do you go to school
Purpose of my designing: In this part, have the students say more about what they see or what they don’t see. In this way, they will know today’s lesson has something to do with transportation.
Step2 Presentation
Learn new words in groups. The new word in this lesson are train, subway and bicycle. Show them pictures of these things and teach them these new words.
After showing all the pictures, I will write down the new words “train” and “subway”and bicycle on the blackboard. Then I will ask students to read after me and correct their pronunciations.At the same time ,show the transportation expressions “take the subway” “take the train” “take the bus” “walk” “ride the bike”
Purpose of my designing: After seeing the pictures, the students will know what they are and they can learn them quickly and easily.
Step 3 Practice
Ask two Ss to read the conversation, then let the Ss practice in pairs. After that ,ask them to practice in groups like this:
(The practice can make students get familiar with the special questions guided by “how”)
Step 4 Presentation
Tell the Ss that different ways of transportation takes different time . If I take a bus , it takes me 20 minutes; If I ride a bike , it takes 40 minutes; If I walk, it takes 50 minutes. Then let the Ss listen and repeat. Make sure the Ss read the words correctly.
Let the Ss complete 2b, and read the numbers aloud. Check one by one. Step 5 Listening practice
In this step, first I ask the Ss to name the five ways of transportation, next just listen to the tape, listen again, check the kinds of transportation that you hear.
Listen for the third time, match the times with the kinds of transportation. While the Ss listening, I go around the classroom and help the Ss who have trouble in listening.
Step 6 Pairwork
Let two Ss read in pairs, make sure they have no problems in understanding the conversation. Maybe they can’t distinguish the use of “take”. Ask them to discuss in groups, then find out the difference between them. Write down “How long does it take ?”on the blackboard.
After that, let the Ss make a conversation about how they get to school. In this way , the Ss can learn how to communicate with each other. Step 7 Summary and homework (5')
(1) Summarize the target language of this unit;
(2) Ask students to revise the new words and phrases;
(3)Ask students to make a survey about the students and teachers how they go to school.
