Many people dream of being a film star. Successful Hollywood stars often earn millions of dollars, and they can buy almost anything they want. I don’t think the lives of Hollywo od film stars are as easy as we think. For many of them, life is like living in
a goldfish bowl, and everyone can see everything they do. They are followed by the paparazzi wherever they go and we can read all about their private lives in newspaper and magazines. All this means that many film stars have found it difficult to lead a normal life.
Macaulay Culkin became famous after the film Home alone when he was only ten years old. He didn’t always have an easy life at home and stopped acting foe a time. Marilyn Monroe, a big Hollywood star in the 1950s, dies in 1962, only 36 and very unhappy. The young 1980s star River Phonenix died when he was only 23.
Not all film stars die young, of course, but they often have other problems. They have to look young and beautiful, and some of them spend thousands of dollars on cosmetic surgery. Many Hollywood marriages don’t last very long. Richard Gere and Cindy Crawford, Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman, Kate Winslet and Jim Threapleton; these are just some of the film stars marriages that have failed.
It’s not true that all stars have problems, and I’m sure many rea lly do have great lives. But unless we become stars oursel ves in future, we’ll never really know what it’s like to b e famous, will we?
