The importance of EQ
Why didn’t some graduates with high IQ get a good job? Confronted with problems, why some face it confidently with ease while others feel depressed and in blues? Have you thought about these questions? Right, that is because of EQ.
Even xi dada emphasized that EQ is important while doing practical work during a meeting in Tianjin. In fact once there was a prevailing idea proposed by Daniel Goleman, a Harvard professor, that success=20%IQ and 80% EQ. (Though it’s quite controversial whether EQ is more important than IQ , I only focus on the importance of EQ to avoid getting stuck in endless discussion. ok?)We can see that EQ is very important.
To put it more clearly, let’s have a look at the five EQ competencies here.
1.Self-Awareness.It means an accurate self-assessment: knowing one's strengths and limits. So
you can have more self-confidence.
2.Self-Regulation.It means self-control.You can manage disruptive emotions and impulses. You
can maintain standards of honesty and integrity. You can take responsibility and be flexible in handling change.
3.Self-Expectations and Motivation. It means optimism andpersistence in pursuing goals
despite obstacles and setbacks. It means striving to improve or meet a standard of excellence we impose on ourselves.
4.Intuition and Empathy. It means our awareness of others' feelings, needs, and concerns. It
means the ability to sense what others want or express.
5.Social Skills. It means communication, leadership, and cooperation. You can inspire and guide
groups of people.
Personal Competencies— Competencies That Determine How We Manage Ourselves
Social Competencies—Competencies That Determine How We Handle Relationships
Those competencies of EQ contribute to better family life ,social relationship, andcareer achievement. The former two are easy to understand so I just explain more about career achievement.
In the contemporary society, employers want people who are gifted at persuading in a sales situation and resolving customer complaints. They want people who can effectively make decisions in stressful situations and can empathize with needs of their colleagues and clients. So people with high EQ will definitely stand out in a job promotion.
This is the part on the importance of EQ. Thank you.
