高一英语必修一写作课课堂实录全英文授课
王俐
let’s begin our class. In this lesson we’ll write a story based on given pictures and master the basic elements and writing methods of story narratives .Besides, develope writing thinking and further deepen the cross-cultural understanding of english through writing practice; in addition, share the story about english-related anecdotes.
Reviewing :Last lesson we read four funny posts and learned the expressions related to them.what are they?do you remember? They are t he first floor, not bad, wicked, have/there is a frog in one’s throat .can you retell one of them? Lihua, please. Not bad .you did a good job.
The four expressions caused the misunderstanding in English.
the first floor:in British English,it refers to the floor of a building above the one at ground level; while in American English it means the floor of a building at ground level.
And how about this one”not bad”? yes , it is a positive comment. If you have got the comment from your teacher ,it means pretty good, better than you expected.
Wicked:what do you think of julien’s grandfather? he is wicked. He is such a nice guy.
Is there a frog in your throat? Why don't you say anything? I’m Unable to speak clearly because my throat is dry and blocked .
The posts on page 21 remind us that some of the English we learn in the classroom is rather different from the English in the outside world. A frog in one’s throa t means yu cant speak now, what is the meaning of toad-in-the-hole? Next, let’s diecover more about it.
Turn to Page 23. We’ll tell a story about toad-in-the-hole togetherlook at the picture .i think all of you can guess what the animal is ….give you two minues to look through the pictures and and answer the questions.
Picture 1. Read it carefully, and find the related information.
1.When did the story happen? Yes,you’re right. Last summer.
2.Who were the people in the picture? A British family and I.
3.Where did the story take place? Are you familiar with the building ? 1 it’s a landmark of london-tower bridge, which was built over river themes.so we know the story took place in london. Picture 2 What did the boy say to the girl? We’ll have toad-in-the-hole for dinner.
Picture 3. What was the girl’s feeling after hearing the boy’s words? Watch carefully the look on the gorl’s face. worried, a little terrified, confused, nervous ,we can also use “with butterflies in my stomach”to express your n ervousness. you’d better note it down on your books.
Picture 4.
1.What happened in the end?Acturally Toad-in-the-hole is a traditional British dish. It tastes yummy. It consists of sausages in a Yorkshire pudding mix, (a mix that tastes a bit like pancakes)usually served with vegetables. The origin of the dish's name isn't quite clear. Maybe it gets the name because it resembles a toad sticking its head out of a hole. Like this
2.What caused the misunderstanding? It is an open question.you can discuss with your partner.~Result from the similar sounds, in english speaking people, different culture between countries can lead to misunderstanding among non-native speakers.in brief, cross-culture, culture shock. let’s review the five questions again.and find out the elements of the story narratives. Before writing ,there are 3 tasks to finish.
Task 1: Decide the person and tense
Task 2: Decide the structure
Task 3: Write down the key words and sentence patterns
Task 1: keep in mind that the writing style is often used in the first person singular”I”.sometimes it is possible to use the third person singular “she,he”.avoid the second person.past tense is more often used in the story narrative.
Task 2: Decide the structure
According to the description of the pictures, how many parts should this story be made up of? Four . The first part is to set a setting including when, where, who . which is the beginning of the story. In the second part we should set a conflict leading to the development. The third part is the climax of the story we can add some tension. And the last part is the ending and we could contain our personal opinions and comments. this part is open-ended, we could show our attitude towards the phenomenon, for or against. The structure is similar to”起承转合“in chinese.
Now let’s focus on task 3.i’ll show you some expressions and sentence structures. the following materials would be helpful for our preparation of writing. it would be a good idea if you can list them on your notebooks.
While –writing since we have finished the preparation, let’s begin to write the story about
100 words.
first you ‘re supposed to make an outline of the story according to the outline .you will be given 5minutes to finish the task.ok.let’s get started.
Next put these useful expressions into your outline, then you will get your draft. please pay attention to the tense, spellings, puncation grammar.\while writing.have you finished?
Post-writing
ok,time’s up.It seemed that most of you have finished the task.take out your written work .first, selfcheck your writing, ;and then. share your writing with your groupmates .please
exchange your draft with your partner. Try to help your partner to modify mistakes in the draft, and
at the same time,it would be great if you can give him some advice. Everybody.look at the
chart.there are 5 aspects in the writing .5levels for each part.25is full mark.
I’ll present a student’s work to you .read it and give a suggested point and tell us the reason.clear? liua, would you please..?
1.Vocabulary ---2 , lihua thought ~is Not rich enough. Is the story attrative to you ? just a
little .yes, it isnot vivid. So 2points is ok.
How about Spelling and punctuation:? your suggested points is 5. most of them are correct. Next part:grammar 3 .there are some obvious mistakes about tenses. I think 3 is ok.
Is the passage well organised? Not enough. Too many simple sentence .you suggested 2. Content:3 why? basically the information is included, but lack more details.thank you, lihua.awesome!
Attention: words enough in the passage?less than 80.so total point is 13.
Everybody want to get a high score, what should we do ?finish off the exercise and then discuss how to polish the writing and make a good story?
紧张的nervous besides this word, can you think of more ways to express the same meaning?tense,worried.\, anxious ,we can use an idiom to replace it.with buterflies in one’s stomach.one’s heart is in one’s throat. Next word 令人惊讶的surprising.another way :astonishing, shocking .so to make your story attractive and vivid, we’d better use sparkling words and expressions.
Exercise 1:Combine the two simple sentences.
Exercise 2: rewrite the sentence with exclamation.
Compare the sentences, which one is better/obvoiusly the latter . so we should polish our sentences and use various sentence structures, making our composition take on a new look.sometimes use some proper connections to link the sentences together, making the passage more smooth and coherent.
After class, polish your writing and copy it on a blank sheet.remember :good handwriting also counts! Be neat!
Based on what we learned ,we can make a Conclusion: to make a good essay?
The eaasy shoulebe 1.neat and clean 卷面整洁
2. complete content 内容完整
3. well organized 结构合理
4. exactly use sparkling words 准确使用高级词汇
5. various sentence patterns 用较丰富的句式
Now let’s appreciate the polished version.read it together
