22.(8分)Parents whose children show a special interest in a sport feel very difficult to make a decision about their children’s careers. Should they allow their children to train to become top sportsmen and sportswomen? For many children it means starting schoolwork very young. And going out with friends and other interests have to take a second place. It’s very difficult to explain to a young child why he or she has to train five hours a day, even at the weekend, when most of his or her friends are playing. Another problem is of course money, In many countries money for training is available from government for the very best young sportsmen and sportswomen. If this help can not be given, it means that it is the parents who have to find the time and the money to support their child’s development and sports clothes, transport to competitions, special equipment, etc. All can be expensive.

Many parents are worried that it is dangerous to start serious training in a sport at an early age. Some doctors agree that young muscles may be damaged by training before they are properly developed. Professional trainers, however, believe that it is only by training when young that you can reach the top as successful sports person. It is clear that very few people do reach the top, and both parents and children should be prepared for failure even after many years of training.

1、Where can we most probably find this passage?

A.An advertisement. B.A diary. C.A newspaper. D.A notice board.

D.It’s not very expensive for parents to support their children’s development in sports.

23.(8分)Back in January, I was watching a college football game and came to a realization: As a high school senior, pretty soon, I’ll be the same age as some of the top athletes in the world.

This realization was both confusing and comforting. Until this point, I’d always thought of top athletes in another generation. I had no real connection to people in the news or playing sports on TV because they were so much older. But pretty soon, people of my age will be the ones dominating (支配) the news.

The comfort came in understanding that as I prepare to graduate from Sanford H. Calhoun High School in Merrick, I’m not that far off from entering the real world, and I will have a chance to make a name for myself.

Right now, I’m at the end of one of life stages, with many more to come. As seniors, many in my class

developed superiority complexes. We’d see baby-faced ninth-graders and think, “Ugh, those annoying freshmen.” Or we’d hear juniors complain ab out starting the college application process and say to each other, “Those juniors have no idea what they’re talking about.” Of course, last year’s seniors said the same thing about last year’s juniors, repeating a timeless cycle.

Psychologist and author Thomas Armstrong writes that life is made up of 12 stages. He stresses that no stage is more important than another, and each has its own unique gifts. There is no highest point in life, no impressive ending when you are above everybody else. At the same time, there is no lowest point in life; at no point is a human worthless and below others. Just as an infant isn’t below everyone else, our elders aren’t above everyone else.

1、What can we know about the author?

A.He’ll finish his high school studies about one year later.

B.Reflecting on the past is a part of his daily routine.

C.Football is a particular favorite with him.

D.He dreams of being an excellent athlete.

2、Why did the author find his realization comforting?

A.The top athletes are the same age as him.

B.There is a possibility that he can be famous.

C.He will be admitted to his dream university.

D.He’s made full preparations for entering society.

3、What does the underlin ed phrase “superiority complexes” in Paragraph 4 mean?

A.A habit of making complaints.

B.A habit of following in others’ footsteps.

C.A feeling that you are better than others.

D.A feeling that others are unapproachable.

4、What message is conveyed in the last paragraph?

A.Life is meant to be lived and enjoyed.

B.Life is never smooth, full of ups and downs.

C.One should try to reach his greatest potential.

D.Everyone has their own value and position in life.

24.(8分)We all know what it is like to be unable to turn your head because of a cold in the muscles (肌肉) of your neck, or because an unexpected twist (扭曲) has made your neck ache. The slightest move makes you jump with pain. Nothing could be worse than a pain in the neck.

That is why we use the phrase to describe some people who give you the same feeling. We have all met

such people.

One is the man who always seems to be clapping his hands—often at the wrong time—during a performance in the theater. He keeps you from hearing the actors.

Even worse are those who can never arrive before the curtain goes up and the play begins. They come hurrying down to your row of seats. You are comfortably settled down, with your hat and heavy coat in your lap. You must stand up to let them pass. You are proud of yourself-control after they have settled into their seats...Well, what now ... God, one of them is up again. He forgot to go to the men 's room, and once more you have to stand up, hanging on to your hat and coat to let him pass. Now, that is "a pain in the neck".

Another, well-known to us all, is the person sitting behind you in the movies. His mouth is full of popcorn (爆米花); he is chewing (嚼) loudly, or talking between bites to friends next to him. None of them remain still. Up and down, back and forth, they go for another bag of popcorn, or something to drink.

Then, there is the man sitting next to you at lunch, smoking. He wants you to enjoy it too, and blows smoke across your food into your mouth.

We must not forget the man who comes into a bus or subway and sits down next to you, just as close as you will let him. You are reading the newspaper and he gets closer so that he can read the paper with you. He may even turn the paper to the next page before you are ready for it.

We also call such a person a "rubber neck", always getting close to where it does not belong, like neighbors who watch all your visitors. They enjoy learning about your personal business. People have a strong dislike for "rubber necks". They hate being watched secretly.

1、According to the passage, how do you feel when late comers walk back and forth in front of you in a cinema?

A.Disturbed. B.Bored.

C.Ignored. D.Relaxed.

2、A "rubber neck" often .

A.says bad words behind people

B.Someone who feels ache in his neck due to a cold in the muscles.

C.Someone who sits next to you smoking, which you never enjoy.

D.Someone who keeps eating or talking all through the movies.

4、What is the main purpose of the author?

A.To tell people what might be bad manners in public.

B.To criticize (批评) the people who might be "a pain in the neck".

C.To show anger to those who are described as "a pain in the neck".

D.To tell people how to stop the pain in the neck.

25.(10分)Humans have been keeping animals as pets for tens of thousands of years, but Dr Jean-Loup Rault, an animal scientist at the University of Melbourne in Australia, believes new companions are coming: robot pets.

“Technology is moving very fast,” Rault told ABC News, “The Tamagotchi in the early 1990s was really the first robotic pet, a nd now Sony and other big companies have improved them a lot.”

This may not sit well with pet lovers. After all, who would choose a plastic toy over a lovely puppy? But Rault argues that the robotic kind has a lot going for it: “You don’t have to feed it, you don’t have to walk it, it won’t make a mess in your house, and you can go on a holiday without feeling guilty.” The technology also benefits those who are allergic to pets, short on space, or fearful of real animals.

It’s not clear whether robot pets c an replace real ones. But studies do suggest that we can bond with these smart machines. People give their cars names and kids give their toy animals life stories. It’s the same with robots. When Sony stopped its repair service for its robot dog Aibo in March 2014, owners in Japan held funerals.

As an animal welfare researcher, Rault is concerned about how robotic pets could affect our attitudes towards live animals. “If we become used to a robotic companion that doesn’t need food, water or exercises, perha ps it will change how humans care about other living beings,” he said.

So are dogs and cats a thing of the past, as Rault predicts? For those who grew up with living and breathing pets, the mechanical kind might not do. But for our next generation who are in constant touch with smart technology, a future in which lovely pets needn’t have a heartbeat might not be a far-fetched dream.

1、What does the underlined phrase “sit well with” means?

A.be refused by B.be beneficial to

C.make a difference to D.receive support from

2、What are the advantages of robot pets?

a. They are plastic and feel smooth.

C.bd D.cd

3、We can learn from the passage that___________.

A.Sony is the first company to produce robot pets Aibo.

B.People can develop strong bond(联系、关系) with their robot pets.

C.Rault thinks robot pets still have a long way to go.

D.Robot toys may help people care more about living beings.

4、The passage mainly tells us___________.
